Summary: A commendable remake.
Review: The presence & chemistry of Rene Russo & Pierce Brosnan in this film is undeniable. They lift the movie to a new height. The movie started slowly but towards the end, it gets better. The nudity in the movie comes as a surprise though. The highlight of the show would definitely be how Pierce Brosnan put the original painting back in the museum despite that all cops were eyeing on him. Only when you have watched the movie you would appreciate the term, life imitates art! I wish supporting cast such as Dennis Leary gets more air-time but I suppose this Thomas Crown Affair is really a Pierce Brosnan-Rene Russo movie. Overall, a commendable action romance movie.

Summary: I did not want to see Russo topless
Review: This movie would of been better without the nudity. I thought this movie was going to be more of an action flick, at least thats what the previews seemed to protray it as. Instead in turns into an adult love affair. Disapointing.

Summary: The characters were not believable.
Review: This movie was a major disappointment to me. I figured we'd be seeing Thomas Crown committing burglary after burglary and constantly fooling the authorities. Instead, we get two whole burglaries in the movie and Rene Russo's character, who's supposed to be assisting the police in aprehending him, fawning all over him and generally making a fool of herself. Her character was so not believable that it was ridiculous. There was no motivation for her inane actions...she fell in love with him after seeing him on a security camera for five minutes, if that. Ridiculous.

I was expecting a lot more action out of this movie. There was hardly any! It was all character development that wasn't believable. I'm sorry, but this movie was pretty bad.

Summary: Stylish Caper Flick
Review: Whoever said "they don't make them like this anymore" should see "The Thomas Crown Affair." This was a good movie in the sixties and it's just as good a movie re-done in the nineties. Pierce Brosnan makes a dashing leading man and Rene Russo knows just how to strike sparks with him.

The sophisticated, stylish plot takes us into the world of high-priced art as a multi-million dollar work is stolen from the Metropolitan Museum in New York City--right after the cops have successfully stopped another robbery! Great escapist fare and beautifully executed, with scenes set in the countryside and in the Caribbean as well as around NYC. Just when you think you've got it all figured out, another plot twist crops up. All in all "The Thomas Crown Affair" is a winning blend of intrigue and romance and a good time at the movies.

Summary: An Excellent Remake of a Forgotten Classic
Review: The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) is one of those rare remakes, which lives up to the first. The first was made in 1968 with Steve McQueen. Now Pierce Brosnan is no McQueen, but does an excellent job, playing the ultra rich Crown. Rene Russo has never been better in her perforance as the insurance investigator trying to catch Cown, after he steals a painting worth $100,000,000. But the nicest touch comes in the form of Faye Dunaway as Crown's Shrink. Dunaway played the russo character in the original movie. Worth a watch if your in the mood for a good film.

Summary: The definition of style
Review: Though it comes with disappointingly few extra features, the DVD version of _The Thomas Crown Affair_ is worth having if for no other reason than that the music is so striking, it's practically a character itself. Getting to a particular scene in this film is also getting to a particularly clever orchestration. Still, this is no novel feature; it's just barely meeting the definition of "DVD". To be sure, there is an insightful director's commentary, but in the wake of _The Sixth Sense_ and other feature rich DVDs, the bar has been raised higher than this DVD can match.

Luckily, the film itself is largely satisfying, clever, and suspenseful--even if you've seen the original with Steve McQueen. It is somewhat true that repeat viewings allow you to unravel the suspense of the plot in mildly unsatisfying ways--but not on the first repeat. Even so, I'm not sure I come to this movie with such hyper-critical goggles. The fact that the events herein are explained well by the plot, even if they might not be possible to achieve in real life, is enough to assuage the critic in me. Also, even though others have seen it as gratuitous, I liked the nod given to that original production by having Faye Dunnaway appear here as the psychologist. A small role, yes, but it did allow for some interesting storytelling technique, allowing us into the psyche of Thomas Crown in a way usually reserved to novels.

All in all, then, this is a thoroughly enjoyable production, perfect for a first date. It's smart, it's sexy, it's got fantastic music and, above all, style. For more serious students of film, it's got a lot to teach about how to set up a finale, how to use music for best effect, and how to remake a movie but still put your own unique spin on things.

Summary: Good moive!
Review: Good moive, but not great? Keeps you guessing through out the film. If you like mystery / robbery films, you'll enjoy this one! I saw if once and enjoyed it. I'd watch it again just see if I missed some stuff, but I don't think I'd buy it. Maybee, if the price was write?

Summary: Not just Bond :)
Review: Let me just start off by saying that Pierce Brosnan is one of my favorite actors. I love this movie and him in it. Lots of twists and turns. Keeps you thinking. Rene Russo is hot in this movie. Real Hot. The interactive menu is really put together nicely. And the trailer of the original makes you want to get that to.

Summary: A Treat in DD-5.1
Review: Awesome soundtrack - not loud, but exquisitely crafted. If you've invested in a Dolby Digital-5.1 (AC-3) system, this will make you appreciate the surround sound.

RR makes it easy to view - she's held up well!

Summary: Enjoyable Romance Caper!
Review: This one is enjoyable, entertaining, stylish and features great performances by the two leads. Rene Russo manages to set the screen ablaze at her 40's and steals almost every scene she's in. Pierce Brosnan breaks his 007 mold and adds the right kind of mysteriousness and sensuality to his character. Nice direction and stylish sets. But for a caper flick there's not much robbing going on, and the romance, even though the leads have chemistry, there's never any real emotion expressed. Flawed but ultimately entertaining, I enjoyed Faye Dunaway's cameo. From a scale of 1-10 I give this film a 6!
