Summary: An action film with intelligence.
Review: Easily one of the best American films of the Nineties. A moving tale of love, war, revenge, and redemption. Wonderfully shot on location with rousing battle scenes. I found the battle scenes to be more interesting than those in, say, Braveheart. This intelligent film has fine pacing and is graced with a very interesting music score. Wes Studi gives an excellent portrayal as the sulking, vengeful Magua. This film was directed by Michael Mann who also directed The Insider and Heat (as well as Miami Vice). If you want an action film with intelligence, The Last of the Mohicans is it.

Summary: Great movie. Blows Dances with Wolves away.
Review: This move is defintely worth seeing. I think very few people would not be stirred with emotion by the unusual ending. It's depiction of life during those times is beliveable and the story is great. I have very little to say about this movie that I didn't like. Worth owning.

Summary: Michael Mann's best movie!
Review: Director Michael Mann's best film was without a doubt the The Last of the Mohicans. His adaption of James Fenimore Cooper's literary classic is fantastic... (though he wasn't wholy faithful to the original.) The cinematography is a work of genius and the musical score is beautiful... It really conveys the pioneering anti-authoritarian colonial spirit that America was built on. It's timely message also shows you why the self-reliant individualist has difficulty choosing between "wrong" and "wrong." Hawkeye is the personification of the laissez-faire individualist that longs for liberty, while seeking refuge from those who want to control, dictate, and ruin the lives of himself and his loved ones.

This movie will forever remain in my unofficial top 5 five flicks of all time list. In response to the last reviewer, one only has to read the political writings of Cooper to surmise that Hawkeye being "counter-culture" is a little off-base... This movie will remain a timely classic for the ages.

Summary: a fabulous romantic adventure !
Review: What an amazing film this is ! From the first scene of the deer chase, it never lets up. It's my favorite Daniel Day-Lewis performance. He's magnificent in this and his chemistry with Madeleine Stowe makes this one of the great screen romances. This movie has fierce, violent battles, Dante Spinotti's incredible cinematography with huge, sweeping vistas, a gorgeous score by Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman ( which includes the exquisite "I will wait for you" by Clannad ) and a marvelous supporting cast...but what you'll remember most is the way Day-Lewis and Stowe look at each other.

Summary: Filmaking the way it was intended
Review: I saw this movie on TNT and must say that it is one of the best made films I've ever seen. I'm not much for violence, but I felt compelled to watch every last moment of the film. It was extremely well done and I felt also true to the time period portrayed. Daniel Day-Lewis, Madeline Stowe, and the other actors all brought their characters to life with sincerity and passion. The depth of feeling between Nathaniel and Cora was palpable with no need for words or gratuitous sex scenes. The combat scenes truly depicted the savagery of the time. And the cinematography was poetic, not to mention the musical score. The music portrayed feeling and emotion during some scenes so well that words were unnecessary. Examples: the scene where Nathaniel and Cora are together for the first time, and the almost last scene where Nathaniel's brother fights Magua, and then Nathaniel's father ultimately defeats Magua. That last scene in particular was so moving that I found myself barely breathing in anticipation of the outcome. If you haven't seen the movie, I cannot recommend it strongly enough.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: This movie is very moving. I enjoyed the plot and the music that accompanied the movie. The end is fabulous and gives me chills every time I watch it. It is rated R for violence more than anything (only one curse word was in the whole thing!) and is definately worth the money because you're getting a classic!

Summary: fantastic musical score & tender, tear-jerking moments
Review: Mix of testosterone-filled hand-to-hand combat battles and chick-flick romance... what more could one ask for in a movie perfect to watch on a first date?

Daniel Day-Lewis is convincing as the last of the Mohican people, despite the Irish accent that sneaks in on an occasional syllable. Wes Studi perfectly plays the malevolent and proud Magua who is a ruthless and merciless warrior.

The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful and the music is perfectly married to the scenes... sometimes upbeat, sometimes sanguine. The story is one of hope, virtue, legacy, jealousy and sacrifice. Sometimes violent and sometimes tender, the story is acted well enough that you often forget you're watching a film. Subtle accents such as hair that's out of place just enough to be believable make the film feel more like a voyeuristic experience in the lives of real people, even though this is a fictional story. Highly entertaining and moving, filled with a number of scenes that are simply unforgettable.

Not everything is tied up in a neat little bow... characters you think will (or should) die end up harder to kill than cockroaches... other characters end up dying and making you think that no major character is safe from elimination. I never read the book, so I was on the edge of my seat during most of the film. The most memorable scenes are those containing actual Native American actors... they are fantastic and I wish more movies would have roles for this awesome group of people.

Summary: One of the best
Review: Two years ago in a my junior history class I watched this film and loved it. I recently watched it again, and could actually sit back and enjoy it. I love this movie. It's an action movie, it's a love story, it has a heart. Daniel Day Lewis is excellent as Nathaniel, and Madeleine Stowe made her character very realistic. They make a wonderful couple and bring a lightness to the movie. I really enjoyed the images in the movie, it was beautifully filmed, the moutains..the water fall...But one of things I truly love about this movie is it's music. The score is compelling, romantic and fast paced all at the same time. My favorite film used to be the English Patient, but upon watching this again, I think I've changed my mind. Honestly though, this film has something for everyone, lots of action (my bro loved all the action scenes) romance (ah! that passionate kissing scene!) I think that this is a very moving film, you come to feel for the characters, to see their humaness. Unlike more recent historical epics, this film isn't filled with heads being chopped off (at least not in the VHS version) every five seconds. And the lovers of this story don't have to jump in the sack every five minutes to relate their passion to the audience. All in all this film is a treat. I'd recommend to anyone and everyone who enjoys a good movie.
