Summary: The BEST version ever made!
Review: I am so excited to see this film for sale. I absolutely LOVED it when I saw it years ago and was never able to find a copy. I had never thought of Anthony Andrews as being particularly attractive before this, however, I fell in love with him after seeing this. DON'T MISS THIS ONE!

Summary: favorite movie
Review: I love this movie. I have the VHS version and it is getting worn out because I have watched it so much over the years. The acting is great, the costumes are such fun. My 16 year old son, who is a history buff, loves to watch this movie with me. I want to get the DVD now, since it is my favorite movie of all times.

Summary: The Scarlet Pimpernel
Review: One of the best movies I have ever seen. It was a nail-biting thriller that had many twists and turns that left you wondering what was going to happen next. The acting is incredible. From the different accents to the different costumes they did a great job. The plot is well developed and throughout the story you can see it unfold peice by peice. I would offer this movie to anyone...anyone looking for an all around great movie.

Summary: Positively Priceless Pimpernel
Review: This adaptation of the Baroness Orczy's work is one of the best, and one of my absolute favorite movies. While the screenplay is actually an adaptation of both The Scarlet Pimpernel and Eldorado, it does capture the spirit and charm of Orczy's original Pimpernel story. Also, the script stands on its own as a witty, eloquent piece of writing. As for a couple of the other elements, the film score is beautiful and inspiring and the costumes are wonderful. The cast is rather solid on the whole, but I would like to mention a few special performances. Anthony Andrews makes a wonderful Percy, switching deftly from the foppish aristocrat to the fearless superhero to the tormented husband, all the while retaining the essence and core of the man who is both Sir Percy Blakeney and the Scarlet Pimpernel. The talented, lovely Jane Seymour's Marguerite is charming, brave, feisty, and feminine. Ian McKellen is brilliant as the scheming, high-strung Chauvelin, and Malcolm Jamieson is well cast as the handsome Armand, Marguerite's headstrong, courageous brother. This movie is great fun and has something in it for everyone: romance, suspense, and a good dose of swashbuckling and derring-do. Sink me, it's the perfect combination!

Summary: FINALLY OUT ON DVD!!!!
Review: This isn't a review of the DVD (as it's not available til February) but of the film itself. Funny, suspenseful, exciting, funny, romantic, adventurous, and did I mention funny? Excellent version of the book - best by far - and wonderful for the whole family. Oh and Ian McKellan is great in this as well. I'm sooo glad it's finally on DVD -- hooray!!

Summary: Odds fish madam, if this isn't simply the best!
Review: Anthony Andrews set the bar so high that no other scarlet pimpernel could ever attain his brilliant interpretation of the character. He goes from "foppish" to the perfect leader in a simple facial expression, makes you laugh out loud with his (mis)treatment of Chauvlain, then makes you swoon when he proclaims his love. It's perfect! Jane Seymour is dewey-eyed behind the softened lenses, beautiful and believable, but it's really Andrews who makes this film both unforgettable and utterly repeatable. Sink me, what is the time?!

Summary: Book vs. Movie
Review: As it happens with numerous book to movie situations, the movie differs from the book. Alas, as Harry Potter proved, that is not always a bad thing. This version of the Scarlet Pimpernel is definatly a case of the movie being as wonderful as the book.

This particular movie integrates not only the original book, The Scarlet Pimpernel, but some of the other situations and themes of books in the Baroness's Scarlet Pimpernel series.

This version of the movie is without a doubt the most enjoyable, with the 1930's one with Leslie Howard in second. Anthony Andrews is without question the perfect part of the Scarlet Pimpernel.

Summary: Favorite movie of all time
Review: This movie is one of the most intelligent and entertaining ever made, and even beats the book upon which it is based. My husband and I quote lines from this movie every day. "Sink me, if you didn't go and do it!" "In that gown, you'll be the belle of the ball." "More's the pity." "If I were to tell you that I adore you . . . " "A suitable . . . basket?" We need to get this movie released on DVD. Can we start a petition or something?
