Rating: Summary: a tribute to the skills of Mel Gibson Review: This is an astonishing, visually stunning and emotive example of film-making. Mel Gibson takes great credit for his vision as a director and the awesome achievement of bringing this to the screen. It is clearly not historicaly accurate but the essence of the period is captured and this is all that matters. Mel Gibson once again proves he is a fine actor and anyone who can't see beyond the Lethal Weapon image is short-sighted (check out Gallipoli for confirmation of genuine acting talent). I have to say Mel makes a good attempt at the accent, and it's much more convincing than most. I'm Scottish and the first to cringe at misplaced sentimentality and nationalism, of which there are a number of examples which slightly tarnish the film. But otherwise, Braveheart is an exciting and even important film in keeping alive a crucial piece of our history.
Rating: Summary: Barbarians at the Gate! Review: Inasmuch as cinema has unfortunately become the "de facto" primary source of history education in America, I believe the moguls of Hollywood have some moral obligation to insure that the "historical" movies they produce for PROFIT are, in fact, historically accurate... No historian of the time period depicted here can view this highly acclaimed movie and be anything less than appalled by it's glaring historical inaccuracies. It doesn't surprise me that Hollywood would tailor the script of this story in accordance with a proven formula that would maximize their profits at the box office. After all, they ARE in the business of making money; everything else is apparently secondary. Neither does it surprise me that this movie was recognized for it's epic film making accomplishment; it was, in fact, a big budget production. Nor does it surprise me that this film offended so many nationalistic and cultural sensibilities. This movie managed not only to take cheap shots at the Norman English, but the Scots themselves by depicting Robert the Bruce as a 'bad guy', when in reality, both made great contributions to bringing a United Kingdom into the mainstream of western civilization, and are remembered by many as much greater heroes than the outlaw William Wallace! It DOES surprise me that so many viewers accepted THIS account of the life of William Wallace as accurate. This movie may be seen by many as a much greater than average MOVIE, but this FILM will not stand the test of time as a great film because it has so casually betrayed the truth of the period of history it claims to accurately portray. Hollywood films may come and go, but the truth is eternal.
Rating: Summary: Most compelling movie of all time! Review: Excellent movie by Mel Gibson. Portrays real life history of the battle for Scottish Freedom. Very inspiring movie. It affects you in so many ways, it really makes you think about how lucky we are to have freedom.
Rating: Summary: Not every man really lives. Review: A magnificent work of art that will tear you in half. Mel Gibson directs this overwhelming film with superb mastery. Anyone talking the film down is just venting their own pent-up, childish frustrations at the world. See, every man dies. Not every man really lives. No one should miss this film!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely the finest film created to date. Review: The powerful depiction of a country (Scotland) oppressed, and exploited for the greed of a cruel king and those in a position to gain power. An account of Scottish warrior William Wallace's life, and his battle for the freedom of his country. No apology is given for the realism, or naked, humanistic portrayal of one of the darkest chapters in England's history. This film will tear your heart away, and make you live every moment. Braveheart has no peers.
Rating: Summary: Braveheart = Best Review: Five stars says it all

Rating: Summary: I appreciate this film more than I expected Review: In reviewing the movie a second time, I have come to a new conclusion to the film. I find this movie to be a great historical look at Scottland, and find that a braveheart is someone who will never surrender. Not even when the going is rough. I like to think of myself as a non quiter, because I was born with a visual handicap and have taken my life a hundred percent furthur than any doctor would have expected. I find people with loyalty and love of somethign to the extent that they will die for the cause to be impressive and important. And this film taught that. I don't know how I missed it, possibly I wasn't paying total attention, perhaps I just didn't give it enough credit, but it is a definite noteworthy film and I give it five stars.
Rating: Summary: The bravest and most forgotten hero! Review: since viewing the film for the first time I have become intrigued by William Wallace and the life he led. The film portrays him as realisticly as hollywood can allow. If one can imagine the ending death any more gruesome than it was depicted in the film then one can realize the true torture he went through. This film is gripping action packed and reasonably historically accurate. I reccomend this film to anyone, and I only hope that it continues to shed life on a man who meant so much to a nation.
Rating: Summary: FREEDOM Review: Braveheart is an epic tale about one man's struggle for freedom. My favorite part was when the Irish are sent out to fight the Scottish but end up shaking hands and joining Wallace. COME ON THE IRISH!!!. Braveheart was filmed in Ireland and had the Irish reserve army in it.
