Rating: Summary: A Magical Journey Review: This movie is a magical journey of love, bravery and country. Gibson is truely brilliant and I commend him for the research and love that went into making this epic film. It will go down in history as a fine work of art. I recommend to ANYONE to view this film and experience its power. I would hardly call it overhyped as the writer below displays. And Costner is spelled with a C and his heart has never been in a film like this.
Rating: Summary: Further testament to the fact that... Review: It pays to be Scottish! This film reveals to the masses one of the many reasons Scots are regarded as such brave, uncompromising warriors of a people.
Rating: Summary: Phenomenal Review: I don't have much to say, except that it is a phenomenal movie. This film could've turned sour with its length, but was turned into almost a masterpiece.Even though innacuracies regarding Robert the Bruce are present, it was great.
Rating: Summary: A truly manificent film! Mel Gibson is brilliant! Review: This movie is absolutely wonderful, full of brutal depictions of hand-to-hand combat, tears and kisses, love and passion, freedom and strength. Mel Gibson has done a truly terrific job in depicting what is said to be one of the greatest stands ever taken in history. The performances are truly believable, as are the battle scenes. And to all of you who wish that this movie would come out on DVD, it will be released on DVD in May of 2000.
Rating: Summary: What an amazing movie Review: I strongly recommend this masterpiece to anybody with enough intelligence to appreciate it. It might be rather long, but it doesn't feel like it once you get into the story. Hands down the best film of all time.
Rating: Summary: BraveMel Review: Looking like a contemporary cavemen in need of a shave and a haircut, Mel Gibson comes a-riding through battlefield flames to win Scottish independence in his self-directed, three hour long opus Braveheart. Braveheart's most rewarding achievements are the terrific battle sequences. The two major entanglements showcase bloodletting on an almost unrivaled scale, with gore that is sheer poetry for ferocity and inventiveness. You understand why the early Scots had a reputation for savagery. Heck, I'd have given them Ireland too. It's no matter that Mel's a little long in the tooth to be wooing twenty year-olds, and dialogue that has the hero shouting "They can't take our freedom," to inspire the grunts ain't exactly Shakespeare. Despite clocking in at over three hours his Braveheart is a dandy. What could have easily digressed into a gargantuan ego trip played against sun streaked hills, rainy glades, and huge tracts of land is a cheeky (nice buns, guys), fully realized film that finds its rhythm early. It's bound to make moviegoers look at Mel as a director (dare I say visionary) to be reckoned with. All hail King Auteur!
Rating: Summary: THE BEST! Review: This is as good as movie making can get. Movies are made for one purpose, and that is to tell a story. While no movie can portray a person or event perfectly and still keep your attention, Braveheart is done so tastefully with respect to the truth that noone can deny its greatness. In my opinion this is the greatest movie of all time. I cry every time I watch it, and I have watched it 57 times!
Rating: Summary: As a descendent of Robert the Bruce... Review: I must speak my mind on the historical accuracy of the film. Yes, Robert the Bruce and William Wallace knew and respected each other. The real reason Wallace's wife was killed was because the English already knew of Wallace's involvement with the rebellion. Yes, it was probably the Bruce that knighted him. No, the Bruce never betrayed him. Yes, the Bruce was portrayed in a very unaccurate light in the film. For instance, there was a 14 year span between Wallace's execution and Bannockburn, the final scene of the film. During these long 14 years the Bruce fought and bled in order to free Scotland. The film doesn't show this. The film also doesnt portray the fact the Scots were outnumbered 4 to 1 at Bannockburn! Yet they managed to make a rout out of it. The film also mistakes the Bruce for an inexperienced soldier. In actuality, he was one of the most feared men in Britain. He weighed well over 200 pounds and stood at least 6-2. (quite large in those times) English soldiers were known to actually run from him once they recognized him. Alright, I know I am boasting of the Bruce, back to the issue at hand. Just because the film isnt quite historically correct in the depiction of the Bruce and a few minor details, it still remains my favorite film of all time.
Rating: Summary: One GREAT movie! . . . Review: The only thing that needs to be done is for it to be made into a DVD! This movie is a great heroic tale of how one man (William Wallace) helped the Scots gain their freedom. Oh - and one more thing: it's a real tear-wrencher, you know the kind with the sad ending? Oh, well, I guess all directors do that for the out-pouring of strong opinions and supporters - well I am a supporter!
Rating: Summary: Where's the DVD? Review: Why hasn't Braveheart come out on DVD yet? This is one of my all-time favorite movies and I would love to see it one the DVD format. I don't understand, they'll put the worst movies on DVD now, why not put a classic like Braveheart.
