Summary: Incredible
Review: Braveheart is by far the most riveting, completely enthralling movie I have ever seen...The story is set in 14th century Scottland and details the Scotts struggle against British agression...

Based on a true story, William Wallace, played superbly by Mel Gibson, unites the Scotts and refuses to allow the powerful King Edward the Longshanks of England to take control of the country...

The story may not be completely based on facts as this happened so long ago and the legend of William Wallace has probably grown bigger than the man, but the story-line here is incredible...

Basically it's a love story, not between a man and a woman, but between a man and his country...I don't think I'll ever see a movie that moves me the way this one does at the end...

When it looks like Longshanks has him with no where to go, Longshanks thinks he'll bow down to him since it's either that or death...William Wallace then says, "You can take my life, but you'll never take my freedom"

Watch it if you haven't...You won't be disappointed...

Summary: Inaccurate, and racist.
Review: Braveheart is essentially Rambo or Lethal Weapon set in thirteenth century Scotland. It is yet another case of Hollywood re writing history in and stepping on everyone's toes. The portrayal of the English as cowardly sadists is nothing short of racist.

However, if you do not mind being thoroughly patronized by big budget and rather pretentious action films, this could be for you.

Summary: INCREDIBLE!
Review: I think this is the best movie ever made. I love this movie cause it's really much action in it. The Battles are the best I ever seen in a movie. I love when the englishmen gets hurt and when the blood is all over the place. Nice butcher movie!

Review: Even the title "Braveheart" made me question the inpartiality of this film. It contains very little historical fact- the names of various English and Scottish nobles and the dates of the battles of Stirling Bridge and Falkirk seem to be the only events left intact. Having visited Scotland after the release of this film and seeing everything from museums to post offices plasterd with posters of a woad wearing Mel Gibson, I cannot doubt the nationalistic potency of Braveheart. Therein lies it's downfall. Gibson has managed to cast aside any believable characterisation or battle scenes in a mad pursuit to demonize the English. I can only say from my personnal opinion as an Englishman that it is more than vaguely offensive to see one's ancestors portrayed as cowardly, effeminate and sexually incompetent. What's more, Edward I, a national hero in England, is labelled "an evil pagan" despite the time he spent on crusade. However, if you are not of English blood, especially if you are a Scot or particularly anglophobic, you will no doubt find this an entertaining film.

Summary: Can I give It Six Stars?
Review: excellent cinematography is the main attraction of this movie. You actually feel that it is all happening right in front of you. for example: when Wallace smashes the Scottish nobleman's face in with an iron ball you hear his bones cracking. or, when Wallace impales the archer on a fencepost in the first battle you hear his bones and spine cracking. Overall, an excellent film, but it is incredibly gory.

Summary: BREATHTAKING
Review: This movie is truly incredible. It's the story of the life and death of the Scotsman William Wallace. From his heartbreaking childhood and life filled with treachery and hope to an ending that leaves with pride and a tear in your eye. Not for the weak of heart, but a very very strong picture.

Summary: Solid Excellence
Review: Seems to me that several folks have axes to grind in reviewing this film poorly. This is a very, very good film for people who like history, costume dramas, "English" -- pardon me --- novels, and stirring stories of patriotism and passion. Gibson has proven he is more than just a Lethal Weapon-Bruce Willis type clone. Maybe not Olivier, but who is? What a good movie. I have bought it and watched it several times over. There is much to be enjoyed. Lovely score, excellent attention to detail, high ideals and heroes... and just enough romance to keep my heart swollen and my throat choked up. And Stephen, the Irish hero... WHAT a great addition. I want to take him home and have a few beers with him.

Thank you, Mel Gibson. What fun!

Summary: Greatest movie ever made!
Review: This is the movie to see. It has it all, romance, action, drama, suspence, and a GREAT soundtrack! Everytime I hear the title-song I get tears in my eyes 'cause the feeling you get from this movie is so strong that you only have to hear that melody to get that overwhelming feeling of greatness! The cast is superb. Mel Gibson, need I say more? :-) Sophie Marceau, (also star in new Bond flick-The World Is Not Enough)she's simply the most beutiful and greatest actress ever lived! It got 5 oscars in 1995. It is a bit violent, but tell me a movie that isn't! This is THE ultimate movie-experience that will leave you wanting more, and more, and more!

Summary: An Epic For The 90s
Review: It might play loose with the facts in many ways, but when accepted for the Hollywood production that it is, this film dominates. All the Oscar predictions wrote this film off for being too violent, but it is a war film at heart, and the violence is right for the times. In focusing too much on the battle scenes, critics seem to have overlooked that this film has elements to please everyone: romance for the women, action for the men, drama for the stoics of both sexes. It is undoubtedly a must-see for any movie buff. (I've also heard that this is due to come out on DVD in March or April of 2000. Keep your fingers crossed!)

Summary: Unbelievably resplendent!
Review: There are enough reviews about the content and quality of this film, so I'll share my personal experience only. Braveheart completely enveloped and consumed me. In my humble opinion, there is no piece of literature, film, art, or music that matches its profound demonstration of the human experience: honor, fear, heroism, love, betrayal, friendship, justice and injustice, villainy, humor, sadness, brutality and cruelty, vengeance, loyalty, perversity, adversity, conflict, leadership, valiance.

I fell so hard for the movie and William Wallace in particular that the final Wallace scene destroyed me emotionally for a few days. It was similar to the effect of Nicholson's character in Cuckoo's Nest or Newman's in Cool Hand Luke, only to a much larger degree. To some extent we all live vicariously through movies, but Braveheart had me roaming Scottish hills and valleys like none other possibly could.
