Rating: Summary: Quite Possibly the Best Movie Ever Made Review: Yes that's probably an overstatement but this is one fantastic movie. Action packed, well acted, well directed, etc. The very best hand to hand battle scenes I have ever seen. I saw this movie three times at the theater and have enjoyed it several times at home, and will buy it on DVD if they ever release it in that format.
Rating: Summary: Two reasons why you should see this movie: Review: First: The battles! No movie shows you a realistic sword battle like this one does. They really "get medieval" on their a...! (literally)Second: Catherine McCormack! I'm surprised this amazingly gorgeous and talented actress hasn't become a superstar yet, but she surely deserves it. Those Hollywood guys must be sleeping or stoned not to notice her! As for the rest of the movie, it's way overlong, too preachy, and Mel's character is simply not believable. No "Best Picture" material (its Oscar notwithstanding) for certain, but... Hey, who cares!
Rating: Summary: One of the great epics of modern film Review: Everyone before me including the Amazon Editor has summed up this story already, so i'll just put my 2 cents in the can and you can take it or leave it. This movie was magnificent, the battle scenes were like none other, i didn't care about the historical accuracy, like the viewer before me i paid to see a movie, not a history lesson. This has to be one of Mel Gibson's finest performances ever. The clothes, the brutality of war, the armor and weaponry were created so realistically it makes me thank God to this very day that i live in the age of a somewhat civilized society. This movie belongs in any serious collection, buy it today.
Rating: Summary: A Modern Classic Review: Mel Gibson is wonderful as Scottish warrior William Wallace. He brings an sense of dignity to the role, while playing a warrior. The story is one of great proportions. It involves Scotland trying to win it's freedom from England in the 1200's. A leading force in this struggle is a group led by William Wallace (wonderfully played by Mel Gibson)and many others. As his wife, we find the lovely Sophie Marceau, who is excellent. Her character meets a tragic end at the hand of an English soldier. This only fuels Wallace's conquest further. What really makes this film great is wonderful actors like Gibson and Marceau. As well as the storyline, which is just about as good a Historical Drama as they come. I recommend this film to anyone who wants to swept away into a great film
Rating: Summary: Exellent Review: How could you not love this movie! I mean, true love, sword fights, Irish, battles, betray, deception... Mel Gibson, need I say more? Sophie Marceau does an awesome job too... especially when she takes her small bit of revenge on the decrepitated king Longshanks. If you just can't wait, buy the movie, but I would wait for DVD... I am, actually :) I figure, we all wait, they'll release. Hey, they just released The Princess Bride.. Next is Braveheart then Willow... Enough rambling, DON'T miss this movie!
Rating: Summary: G R E A T M O V I E Review: This is by far one of the top 10 movies of all time. Historical inaccuracies? Forget about it. If you want a history lesson go to the library. If you want a fantastic movie go to your video store and pick this up. Better yet, buy it here and watch it over and over and over... Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: VERY GOOD, A TRUE HOLLYWOODIAN CLASSIC ! Review: Although not being historically accurate, this picture is very entertaining, gripping. Gibson won the Director's Oscar in a brilliant way. There are a lot of blood, of course. The only real weak spot is the unconvincing romance between Wallace and Princess Isaballa.
Rating: Summary: Simply a great story Review: Whether or not Braveheart is historic correct/incorrect is not very important, is it? The facts about what happened in the 13th century is not very easy to get, since it is usually the winners who write the history. Would it be very difficult for the King of the 13th century England to manipulate facts, and maybe change the dates of events. I am not saying that Braveheart tells the true story, or the opposite, and I really does not care. See the movie and enjoy the great battlescenes and the great acting in it.
Rating: Summary: just enjoy Review: I have found on recent trips to europe, one after the movie was released and the other last year, that the general opinion of the Scotts for the film Braveheart remains to hold high respect. What this says to me is that the consensus that merits the greatest right to protest historical inefficiency believes that the movie expressed the right meaning. Beyond being a fantastic creation and performance by Mel Gibson - as well as everyone who played a role, the film provides an oscillating emotional ride that inspires fear, passion, and a desire in fighting for what you believe. It is sad, intense, and leaves an impression, that's what we want isn't it? Life is seen by many and told by many. This makes life interesting. Whether it is slightly inaccurate or dogmatic, it is a perception one feels they should tell to the world. Can't please everyone. My advice is know that Wallace did exist, carry a rediculously large sword (i've seen it and it still has human skin wrapped around the handle), and aid Scotland in winning their freedom. The point is made, the film is excellent - see it - many times.
Rating: Summary: Great work of fiction based loosely on history Review: From the bloody battles to the excellent acting, this movie stands as one of my favorite. It's not historically accurate nor should it never had been thought of as. After all we are talking about Hollywood, and Hollywood is about entertainment. The portrayal of a homosexual as a bad guy seemed to be a rather lame attempt to attack the rather oppressive Politically Correct attitude that has spread through American society in order to stir up controversy and, as a result, sales. Whether this was a historical fact or not about the King's son I do not know so I may be wrong. A good movie for those who like action and can fall into a movie easily, but don't look for groundbreaking acting or much character development.
