Rating: Summary: "the" movie Review: well, what can you say really. put the best movie team together along with a great cast, and what do you get, bam! you get "the" movie. i watched this with a friend in a theater, and i'll never forget that time, the movie is just perfect. now i don't have a favorite movie, but if i were to chose, this would probably be it. you have all the elements of a perfect movie put together. love(romance), drama, comedy, and of course, war. everything kept me glued to my seat.this movie goes down as a classic in my record book. william wallace, played by mel gibson, is just the perfect person to make a movie about. you have the childhood without a father, the going away with a relative, the return, the killing of his love, the revenge, and his death. it can't get any better than this. the movie portrays one of the most brutal times in the history of europe.the fight scenes were just the best, and i think everyone can agree with me on that one, even saving private ryan's wasn't as good as the fight scenes here. so let me steal a popular phrase, i give it two thumbs up, hell! i give it a million thumbs up!
Rating: Summary: Too Bad Gibson Ain't Doing More Review: It's too bad Gibson isn't producing and/or directing anymore films, just acting in them. He did a terrific job! But then again, if he did it a second time and failed, the critics woulda panhandled him.The movie was terrific! Not historically accurate, but so what? Does it detract from the pure drama? Not a chance. The story is so archetypical and such an epic, it's hard to beat it down. In fact, it should be a crime to beat it down. Every culture has a hero like Wallace, whether based on myth or truth. A commoner rising up against tyranny, in defense of his own "people", fighting for freedom, justice, and maybe for love, for a god...something. Scots had Wallace, the English had Robin Hood. The Chinese has Mulan, and on and on. What a terrific movie!
Rating: Summary: Freedom triumphant! Review: Forget historical accuracy! This movie resonates with viewers because it deals directly with issues that are relevant and vital to us in this time. True, the direction and acting are superb (and is not Catherine McCormack one of the most radiantly beautiful women you have ever seen?), the cinematography and score are superlative, but all of that pales beneath the shining message of liberty and freedom. This movie is a clarion call to all in whom the flame of individual liberty has guttered and flickered in the oxygen-poor environment that is America today. Viewing it is as inspirational an experience as you are likely to have while watching a movie. If it weren't tyrannical to do so, I'd want to make it mandatory for anyone wishing to exercise the privilege of citizenship.
Rating: Summary: Why is this movie taking so long to come out on DVD Review: Makes no sense. I can't wait to get it, though. I am pre-ordering my copy today! BUY this one if you haven't already, Mel Gibson won an Oscar for this and it was no suprise, amazing movie...
Rating: Summary: words can't describe Review: amazing, spectacular, captivating, wonderful... words can't describe how powerful and awe-inspiring this motion picture is. honestly, i didn't walk into this one expecting so much from funny-guy mel gibson, but i was served a big slap in the face of strength and wonder from this movie. it tells the story of william wallace, whose wife was murdered by the english. upon this, he rallies his fellow scotsmen and they march into england planning to invade and win their freedom from english oppression. the film won three out of ten academy awards, for best picture, director, make-up, cinematography (which is some of the best i've ever seen, ever!) and sound effects. it was written by randall wallace (no relation, "except in spirit") and boasts emotionally gripping music from james horner (who should have won the oscar that year). this is a completely worthwhile experience, a modern miracle of movie-making. i repeat, words can't describe the brutality of the battle sequences, the intensity of the love scenes, and the overall feeling of triumph in these two tiny cassettes. and, the phrase "freedom" uttered from wallace's lips is one of the simplest, yet most complex sentences ever put in a screenplay. mel gibson gives the performance of a lifetime here, and he wins my respect for these three hours of wonder.
Rating: Summary: Freedom! Review: Thank god I wasn't born 700 years ago after seeing this film. This movie portrays the middle age greatly. Though the movie is not fully accurate on history, the narrator gives an exuse for that in the very beggining! The movie stars Mel Gibson (The man without a face) who is a common Scott during a time of change in Europe. The king of England Lonshanks, a tyrinacle power hungry king, has annexed Scottland, taxed them heavily, and issued a decree that allows English Lords to have sexual privellages to a common mans wife. Wallace will live in peace if he can, unfortuanatley an English soldier attempts to rape his wife. Wallace defends her, and they seperate, his wife is captured and executed, while he evades capture. This event brings back his haunted memory of his father's death and causes him to start a rebellion that will turn into a full scale war This movie was well made and written. Acting is outstanding and should be watched. This movie is quite violent and may be painful to watch at times. The music in this film is quite incredable, and it is quite amusing to watch the prince's (male) lover be thrown out a window by the king. The supporting characters are quite amusing too. As for past reviews on this film... I think you people should understand how movies are written, go visit disney world or something, movies are made for entertainment, not to be a documentary. Would you have liked seeing Wallace having "fun" with a 13 year old french girl? Who cares anyway how do we even know what happened? It was 700 years ago, and in the dark ages... In conclusion this movie makes Titanic look like Waterworld
Rating: Summary: A Powerful, Moving Epic Review: Braveheart is the touching story of how a man who wanted only to raise a family became a legend by paving the way to freedom for his countrymen. The movie is over three hours long, but not a bit of it is boring. You'll see how his patriotic father died while fighting in a failed uprising against the English, how he was raised by his uncle Argyle, who tutored him in Latin and French, how he went home and married, and how he eventually turned a quest for revenge for his wife into a mission to lead his people to freedom. You'll probably even drop a tear at his execution, where he sacrificed his body to save his soul by refusing to beg for mercy. Braveheart portrays William Wallace as the perfect martyr. Whether you're a fan of history (although not completely accurate), love stories, human perspectives, or simply gory battle scenes (although they are not glorified; the emotions and human aspects are much more important), Braveheart is simply a must-see. Hell, watch it even if you're not a fan of those things.
Rating: Summary: Braveheart is not to be missed Review: Yes, Braveheart is not historically accurate. So what? What it is, is an emotionally stirring epic directed by and starring Mel Gibson, in one of his best performances to date. The action scenes are believable, the acting is first rate, the cinematography is excellent, as is the score. If people would quit complaining about the historical inaccuracy to this film, maybe they'd find beauty to Braveheart that is not seen enough in recent film. Braveheart is a masterpiece on many levels and is deserving of all the praise it received. See it now!
Rating: Summary: Proud to count Robert the Bruce as an ancestor.... Review: As a descendant of Robert Bruce and many other brave Scots I was relieved to see a movie like Braveheart to finally be released. It was about time someone recognized what an astounding story the Scottish revolt against England was. The movie aside, I dont think casually observers fully grasp what a monumental task it was for the Scots to defeat the English. At the time England boasted the greatest army in the world. The Scots were made up of modest farmers and working class people unaccustomed to war. It would be akin to Mexico defeating the US in war today. It was that much of a miracle. As far as historical innacuracies, give it a rest. It is a movie. It is meant for entertainment. It is not my favorite film because of the history lesson (accurate or inaccurate) it provided. If you want to read about how the Scottish revolution really took place I highly reccomend Robert the Bruce: King of Scots. If you thought Braveheart was an amazing tale just wait till you read the completely non-fictional version...
Rating: Summary: Best picture of 95 Review: how can such an incredable picture not be on DVD? is this a joke? This film just begs to be on DVD. why it's not? i have absolutely no idea. Very frustrating. I'm removing 2 stars from this review because of the boneheaded move by the studio to deprive the hardcore cinema lover of such an epic and wonderful film.
