Summary: Simply Spectacular
Review: Anyone who thinks "Braveheart" isn't a good movie doesn't know what they are talking about. Mel Gibson put in much of his time and effort to bring us nearly 3 hours of history come alive. He also not only starred in it but directed and fit very well into his role as William Wallace. He not only uses his big sword to kick English ### but he uses his fiery intellect as well. True that this movie is extremely violent but thats what war is. The freedom speech he gives his men near the opening battle can put a chill up your spine and so will his excecution. This is a very emotionally driven film. The sound quality on the DVD will blow you away yet the picture is even better. Probably ranks as one of the greatest war epics in a long time. Own "Braveheart" today on DVD! I also highly recommend getting "Saving Private Ryan" if your into war films.

Summary: An Enduring Epic
Review: There are five reasons why I rate this film so highly: great plot, great acting, outstanding production values, timeless themes, and indelible images. As you probably know already, the movie focuses on William Wallace who led the Scots to great victories before being betrayed, tortured, and executed. Gibson combines his usual zest for physical activity with much of the same sensitivity he revealed when portaying Hamlet. The supporting cast members are all first-rate. Perhaps only Gladiator and Saving Private Ryan are the film's equal in terms of production values. The battle scenes are the most exciting I have as yet seen filmed. In sharp contrast, there are lovely scenes of village life amidst the surrounding countryside. The timeless themes include variations on David & Goliath, the betrayal and execution of Jesus Christ, and Odysseus' ordeals during his return to Ithaca. There are so many vivid images it is difficlt to select a few as examples. For me, details of the battle scenes and then the torturing of Wallace are most memorable. Unlike so many other epics (eg El Cid, Quo Vadis, and Cleopatra), Braveheart is one you will wish to see again and again and again.

Summary: Technical review
Review: Mel Gibson's very fine multiple Academy Award winning Braveheart delivers all the meat and potatoes, good plot, solid acting heavy action and stunning cinematography. Unforunately cinematographer John Toll's efforts are reduced in splendor since this DVD suffers from some of the poorest color timing I have ever encountered on DVD. The luminance is too low, the colors are pale and too greenish. Although the image is fairly crisp the murky colors truly affect the enjoyment of Bravheart. Even on the Paramount logo you can tell the the reddish part on the horizon doesn't come out at all. Cool movie, poor mastering, I hereby vote for a remastered Braveheart re- release!

Summary: What a movie!
Review: There is a lot to like in this massive epic. The first time that i heard that Mel Gibson was in charge, i was a little sceptical. When i went to see it in the theater, all doubts were gone. This is one of those movies that you can watch numerous times and never tire of it. Movies like this are not made enough. This is a Hollywood film that actually focuses on emotion, and there is a strong focus. Mel Gibson has earned my respect and admiration after creating a film that is as visually striking as it is thoroughly entertaining.

Summary: FANTASTIC FILM, TERRIBLE TRANSFER!
Review: WE LOVE THE MOVIE (WELL MOST OF US DO, ANYWAY). HOWEVER PARAMOUNT HAS DONE THIS "PICTURE OF THE YEAR" A GREAT DISERVICE. THE FILM LOOKS A LOT WORSE THAN JAWS! A FILM THAT'S TWENTY YEARS OLDER. THE NEW RELEASE OF T2 LOOKS PREFECTLY PRISTINE COMPARED TO BRAVEHEART. THAT'S OVER TEN YEARS OLDER. SAD. WITH ALL THE CLOSE-UPS AND GRAY BACKROUNDS IN THIS FILM, YOU CAN NOT HELP BUT SEE ALL THE DIRT AND SCATCHES. THE SOUND IS THE BEST I'VE HEARD OF A 5.1 DOLBY DIGITAL MIX (I DO NOT EVEN 'MISS' DTS). THE COMMENTARY BY MEL IS BORING. HOW CAN GIBSON BE BORING? BY NOT TALKING! NOT ONLY DOES HE NOT SAY HELLO OR GOODBYE, HE GOES MINUTES AND MINUTES WITHOUT A WORD. IN A MOVIE THIS LONG, THERE IS NO LESS THAN 70 MINUTES OF NO MEL! 70+ MINUTES! I THOUGHT A COUPLE OF TIMES I HAD THE WRONG AUDIO CHANNEL ON, AND WAS JUST LISTENING TO THE DOBLY SURROUND TRACK. THE SADDER NEWS [THOUGHT] ON THIS IS THEY MUST BE THINKING OF GETTING YOUR (MINE) MONEY AGAIN WITH A SPECIAL EDITION. THE TWO DISC, DIRECT TRANSFER, THAT THIS FILM DESERVES.

Summary: Utterly Fantastic In Every Aspect
Review: From beginning to end, Braveheart delivers a no-holds-barred look at what it was like to be a Scottish dude back when men were men, and they wore skirts. Mel Gibson portrays this Scottish dude who knows that what he believes is right, and he rallies everyone around him to fight the other dudes. In the end, there's a major battle, and everyone starts fighting, the scene is totally awesome. If nothing else, see this movie for the end battle scene because it's totally awesome. This movie kicks major butt.

The picture is a million times clearer. the sound is fantastic. you can hear every single piece of metal during the battles. Summary: One of the best movies ever made!
Review: What more is there to say about Braveheart that hasn't already been said. Its without a doubt one of the best movies ever, which is why it won so many Oscars. As for the DVD release, I must admit I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more extras than were released. There is a 30 minute featurette about the making of the movie which was quite interesting, and a commentary track which was also entertaining to listen to. This is definetly a DVD which everyone should have in their collection.
