Rating: Summary: Excellent DVD, with a few minor problems Review: I'm not going to try to sell you on the movie - if you are reading this, and considering buying the DVD, chances are you have already seen it, and want it for your collection. The DVD version of this movie - long delayed, mostly for the commentary track - isn't a bad contribution to the DVD library. Die-hard fans will enjoy the director's commentary, although I felt it was a little lacking, especially in the first hour or so of the film. The featurette is nothing special, and either the exact same one, or one just like it, was run on either HBO or Showtime in 1995, with the film's release. The sound transfer is top-notch, the voices are clear, and the music just right. The video transfer will leave some fans wanting; the colors are perfect, but there are dust spots and other minute errors assiciated with film that are absent from other digitally-mastered DVDs. Seeing as how there probably isn't much more to ask out of a movie that mostly speaks for itself, these distractions are minor, and this disc is definately worth the price for a person who will watch it over and over.
Rating: Summary: Well, it was PRETTY good Review: While I'm sure Mel looks fab in his "skirt" (as I believe the Scottish call them), I see little else to warrant the praise heaped on this Medieval Mel-fest. Watch-able battle scenes, believable acting and an overrated script make up this questionable multi-Oscar winner. A more potent movie about men-in-kilts? Rob Roy takes it for ambiance, and a truly evil villain.
Rating: Summary: A MUST HAVE!! Review: This film is hard to describe w/words...It is wonderful, incredible, and quite possibly one of the all time greatest epics. Even though it is not historically accurate...One must keep in mind that it is a movie, not a documentary. This film inspires your innermost passions, and makes you want to succeed in life at any cost. I would highly recommend this film to anyone, young, or old...
Rating: Summary: Better and Better Review: Every time I see this movie it gets better and better. I sat down to watch it the other day as soon as I got the DVD. It was already late and I was tired, but I the excitement of this film kept me energized. Every time I see it I get charged up to do something heroic, something that matters, something that helps my fellow man.Mel Gibson makes a great action hero, but you can also see the passion in his eyes that explain why he would go to such lengths for his country and for the memory of the woman he loved. He has an uncanny way of seeming like a regular person and not some godlike idol - he is able to relate to the common man. This makes him not only more believable, but also easier to connect with. Catherine McCormack is beautiful. Anyone can see why Wallace would have stood up to the English soldiers to protect his love. Sophie Marceau is gorgeous as the French girl made the Princess of Wales who would do anything to find love in her life. After watching the movie again last night I decided to listen to some of the commentary by Mel Gibson to see what it was like. I was very impressed. Gibson lets the audience in on a lot of the secrets behind the making of the film, while the regular audio track is subtitled so that you don't have to miss any of the dialogue while listening to the director. The disc also includes a documentary on the making of the film that provides a lot of very interesting background and history about the film and also on its central historical figure - William Wallace. This film is a true cinematic masterpiece and belongs in every movie-lover's library.
Rating: Summary: Naked Fannies are Minimal Review: Wow, I just saw Braveheart for the first time last night. I purchased it on DVD. Wow, again! The scenary is amazing, the plot is intriquing, the story-line is ancient. I really enjoyed this movie. I thought about the movie, Gladiator, when I was watching this one. I really see why Mel Gibson won an oscar. I thought this movie was great. I was pleased to see Catherine McCormick in this movie, I loved her in Dangerous Beauty. It is bloody, but what wasn't during this era? Watch it, you might get hooked.
Rating: Summary: A DVD review Review: Slow getting going but once running, it goes like a freight train. The DVD could have been better. The 28 min documentary is very good. How Gibson directed and played the star is beyond me? The documentary and the commentary really shows how hard this ran him into the ground. The commentary wasn't too verbose, Gibson allows you to enjoy the scenes with some extra interesting comments that don't distract from the story. In his commentary he mentions scenes that he had a hard time cutting because they were very good, but had to cut for time. It would have been nice to have these included. Overall a must to have in the collection, but if a special edition is in the planning, it may be better to wait.
Rating: Summary: an inspiration Review: a fight for freedom. this should be shown in high schools as part of an education in Taiwan. "Peace is made in such ways." "Slaves are made in such ways..." China can't take Taiwan if Taiwanese think like William Wallace.
