Rating: Summary: "Braveheart:" A MASTERPIECE! Review: This film proves a point: Mel Gibson can also DIRECT a film. Following in the footsteps of Leonard Nimoy ("Star Trek III: The Search For Spock", "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home," "Three Men And A Baby"), Clint Eastwood ("Unforgiven," "Space Cowboys"), and Kevin Costner (the hit "Dances With Wolves," and the clunker "The Postman"), Gibson is another actor who can direct a film that wins several Oscars (This film won 5, including Best Picture- 1995). This film deserved them all! Great acting, dramatic music from Oscar winner James Horner, and some of the most accurate, if not the most extremely graphic, battle scenes ever committed to the big screen. Gibson's first time playing a hero, instead on an anti-hero, like in the "Mad Max," and "Lethal Weapon" movies, makes it his second best performance ("The Patriot" being the best). This film will be remebered as making war films popular again (this movie grossed $77 Million). Bravo, Mel! Grade: A+
Rating: Summary: Great film from actor/director Mel Gibson. Review: Who knew that actor Mel Gibson, can pull off directing this kind of film. After directing his first film, title is The Man without a face was a good movie, thanks for his performance and Nick Stahl(Distrubing Behavior) in a standout performance. The first two third was good but the last half hour of his first directing job was almost a major flaw. Braveheart is something close to Gibson heart, why the decide to directed and star in the picture. The true heart of the film is about Freedom, the plot: Is about a man named William Wallace(Gibson in an emotionally charged performance), a bold Scotman, who`s have come back in his homeland Scotland after twenty years, who`s really want to live in peace and want to have a family of his own. He was always in love with a young woman, he has know her a little since childhood. They both fall in love, one day English Soldiers, whò have almost raped his woman and then killed her. Wallace has killed all english soldiers with the help of his friends in his village and then a war between the English and Scotland are fighting, what it`s right to own their freedom. DVD has great widescreen (2.35:1) format(Which also enhanced for 16x9) and Superb Dolby Digital 5.1 Sorround Soundtrack with excellent use of base. An fine running commentary track by actor/director Mel Gibson. A 30 minutes behind the scenes featurette titled-A Filmmaker`s Passion:The Making Of Braveheart. A Excellent DVD to own. Grade:A. Panavision.
Rating: Summary: Classic Review: This is the best movie I've ever seen. It has everything, its starts of as a love story, turns into an action movie, then leaves the audience in tears. Most Oscar winners are dull. Finally an Oscar winner that actually deserves its award.

Rating: Summary: Excellent depiction of Leadership and combined-arms Review: Braveheart shows us two things I'd like to focus on; combining arms and leadership. Certainly in the top 10 movies of all time; Braveheart shows how a force that is inferior can defeat a superior force by using a technotactical weapon (some will condescend and call a "gimmick") if an asymmetry can be found. The way Wallace uses pikes to repel a cavalry horsed attack is eye-opening and priceless for today's military professional who is kept in a state of ignorance about the nature of war. The conclusion to be drawn is that war as a creative act of human will is best conducted when we think up and employ such "gimmicks". A lot of folks in our military need to realize this---so watching Braveheart is a good medicine. The movie in following scenes then shows the inter-play between infantry, cavalry, archers and how war is not a dumb macho duel as we are fed a steady diet from other Hollywood films. The next aspect is the Leadership of Wallace that has to fight human nature in his own ranks. His speech before his men in blue war paint is one of the greatest in film history and strikes a chord akin to Chamberlain at Gettysburg. His question is the same that we face today, do you want to "go with the flow" and let the world dehumanize and take everything away from you or will you say "enough is enough" and stand and fight? The point is Wallace is there in blue war paint, not in a dress blue uniform, not in a computer center miles away; he will live or die himself by his "gimmicks". He asks them if they are going to let the British take their humanity away. We know the answer for the film and its a good one. Then we see the price Wallace himself pays for leading-by-example and doing what needed to be done to save the people. Notice how the visionaries always need and sometimes get HELP---Wallace has a small circle of friends who are his "inner circle" and this rings true in life. However his public reward was back-stabing by those who would not take the risks nor stand and fight; those that led their people to tyranny one small indignation at a time. Knowing all these things, who are YOU? Are you a William Wallace or are you more concerned with your social status? The true test of a leader is that he by definition sees a problem of the people and overcomes it, which means risk and certainly not going along with the status quo. Will America which has done its best to browbeat and assasinate charismatic leadership have such men when she faces her darkest hours?
Rating: Summary: oh Review: we saw it in the theater, and we loved it, we saw it on the silver screen and we loved it, now we can watch it and love it anytime we want to...
Rating: Summary: great dvd Review: Great transfer of Braveheart to DVD. The only problem I have at all is the commentary by Mel Gibson is weak compared to other commentaries. Overall a must have. An epic movie that all other epic movies will be based on.
Rating: Summary: da da da dummmmm Review: You hear the pounding of the drums, the screaming of the warriors... you feel the tension as war paint is applied... you feel the surge as the clans charge toward one another, knowing that death is imminent, and you understand that all involved will leave the battlefield forever changed! What a movie! da da da dummmmmmm!
Rating: Summary: Great! Review: There are people who like war films and there are others who don't. This movie has a little bit of every genre: adventure, romance, war and suspense. The leading actors are all superb, with Mel gibson turning in perhaps his greatest role. Wonderful movie, well deserved Academy Awards for Best Picture and Director.
