Rating: Summary: Awesome Movie, even with Historical poetic license Review: You've probably read many other reviews by now.The Scots (particularly Lowland and Boarder Scots, who historically were involved in the events depicted in the events in this movies)...more likely than not, dressed like the Saxons they were (no kilts, but wool tunics and "tartan-like" cloaks). The princess was a six-year old girl. William Wallace, in his lifetime wasn't much of supporter of the Bruce. Woad face paint wasn't worn at the time. These are all the "true" facts regarding this story that many of the severly misguided critics of this film rely on to discourage you from spending your hard-earn money on this film. Now...heart thumping drama, edge of seat situations, larger than life heros that are the same time mortally human. Love, Romance, Patriotism, Revenge, War, Intrigue, Commeraderie, vile and despicable villains. All around well cast characters, with joyous liberties taken to make an already legendary story and enhance the romance of it--complete with Kilts and Bagpipes. If that is what you want, then Braveheart delivers. I rue the cold-hearted and loveless individuals who find this movie dull and trite. If you have a true passion for life and living, then you will love this movie if haven't seen it. If you have some Scots in your blood, you'll be brimming with pride. I don't watch movies to learn history, but sometimes a movie will inspire me to learn the truth. And though liberties were taken to have the movie appeal the largest number of viewers, I didn't feel my ancesters (some of whom faught in the battles depicted) were done any wrong. (In fact, they probably would have loved this retelling of what is now a legend and part of the National Myth of Scotland.)
Rating: Summary: GREATEST EPIC MOVIE EVER! Review: This movie is one of the greatest I've seen and the best Epic PERIOD. I'ts 3 hours long but goes by like one. Its has alot of gore so it is not recommended for the faint at heart, but that's what makes it so great. It shows the brutality of war and introduces William Wallace, a man in Scotish history that most people never heard of, and made Scotish people swell with pride. Mel Gibson did an outstanding job directing and acting in this movie. Its entertaining and educational at the same time. I can go on and on about this movie. If you havent seen it yet, your missing out on a classic that will endure for many years. This movie is truly made for DVD owners, and it will keep you at the edge of your seat with smartly directed battle scenes.....YOU WILL LOVE THIS MOVIE!
Rating: Summary: Never seemed real to me Review: This 1995 film, starring Mel Gibson, who also directed it, is the legendary myth of William Wallace, a Scot commoner who united the 13th century Scots against the English. Technically, it works well, especially the battle scenes which are frequent, bloody and violent. They also are not confusing. The audience always knows who the bad guy is, and what the battle strategy is. However, even though I knew this was a myth, and not based on historical fact, I found the story hard to believe. Would an English Princess really travel to the battlefield to make love to the King's enemy? Mel Gibson is a good actor, but he seemed too old for the part, especially when he weds his childhood sweetheart in the early part of the film. The casting for the supporting roles was better: Patrick McGoohan as the wicked king of England, Brendan Gleason as Mel Gibson's best friend, Catherine McCormack as his first love, Sophie Marceu as the princess. No matter how sad the story or gruesome the violence, I didn't feel any emotional pull. That was because it never seemed real. It was also much too long at three hours. I recommend this video only for those who are interested in 13th Century warfare and unremitting violence. For Mel Gibson fans, however, check out "The Patriot"; its a much better film.
Rating: Summary: A vital piece of history you never knew about Review: While not being entirely historically accurate, it's still a breathtaking story about the thoughts of these guys and where they get their values from, what they base their choices in life on. I was 14 when I first saw this movie. I thought it was an okay movie. Not really disturbed by the gore. My friend enjoyed it. He only liked the ruthless battle scenes. When he got it on VHS, he never watched the rest of the movie. Only fast forwarded to the battle scenes. A shame since it's such a masterpiece. Now almost 6 years later... I bought the DVD and really love the film! I can really relate to the character Mel Gibson portraited there. I think it is because I lost my girlfriend due to a car accident. This is such a powerful movie! My fave scene is the one where Nicolette (Jeanne Marine) is having a conversation with the Princess in the corridor. I don't know why I like it. Maybe because JM reminds me of my girlfriend somehow... Anywayz, get the DVD. It's an excellent - though a bit empty - package. But that's not surprising considering the running length with such an excellent transfer.
Rating: Summary: The best... Review: Braveheart is, without a doubt, the BEST movie I've ever seen. It has the most passionate emotions I've ever seen on screen, and a fantastic Romance. This has the best lifelike battle scenes, and a completely untouchable plot.
Rating: Summary: One of the Top 5 movies of all time. Review: This movie has everything, sex, revenge, war, lots of war, love, hate, greusome, very greusome. I've seen this movie over 20 times, I watch it every night before I go to bed. Mel Gibson is a great actor in this, and he played a Scottish man very well. This movie isn't for the faint of heart though, there are two big bloody battles, and a lot of poor defenseless little horses are killed in both of them :}. Mel Gibson isn't the only actor in this movie though, I cant think of their names right off the top of my head, but about 10 other people were superb in this movie, which is why I think it's the best movie ever made, then their is Saving Private Ryan with Tom Hanks, great acting, great movie, then The Perfect Storm, again, George Clooney, great actor, great movie. So go out and get these three movies today! Jesse Go and get your copy of Braveheart today. Jesse
Rating: Summary: A truly wonderful film. Worthy to be called epic. Review: The only words I can find for this film are great words. I knew nothing of William Wallace before seeing the ad for this on TV. Everything about this film captivated me and kept my attention all the way through. Wonderful location photography of Scotland and Ireland mixed brilliantly with terrific music by James Horner. The performances by all the actors and actresses were absolutely first rate...even in the "minor roles" ie: Longshanks' son. Edward II. I long to see Catherine McCormack (Murron) in more films. She was excellent in her part too. Hats off again to all the performers both in front of the camera and behind it. (Great job both ways, Mr. Gibson!) The best thing about Braveheart though is this: It is a WONDERFUL, interesting, captivating story of love and unbeatable courage and passion. If only we all were that determined to stand up for what we believe in. For the record: Yes, I did cry during the scene of the funerals of Young William's father, Murron, and during the execution of William. I am a man not ashamed to admit that this film was moving to me. Very much so. If you love grand movies with heart...don't miss this one. ((PS: Sorry for the double post but the other had spelling errors in it.))

Rating: Summary: Mel Gibson is Outstanding!! Review: This movie was wonderful from start to finish, and it really deserved those Acadamy Awards, especially for best picture. I think Mel Gibson did an outstanding job for directing, producing, and being the star of the film. Many of you people who say this movie is way too violent, then I suggust you don't watch it, because it's obvious it's going to be violent, just look at the cover of the film with Mel Gibson holding the sword. If you want to see a movie with a wonderful story and beautiful scenery, then I suggust you add Braveheart to your DVD library!!
