Rating: Summary: You my Take our Lives But you Shall Never Take our Freedom Review: I don't think that thier is a better movie ever made. I live by this movie and mel Gibson did A good job as William Wallace. I still cry every time I watch this movie and i've seen it more than any other person alive. This, Pirates, and THe Simpsons are the three best things in life. FREEDOM
Rating: Summary: All time great movie Review: Braveheart is one of the all time great movies. It has it all, great acting, engrossing storyline, excitement, romance, laughter and above all, fantastic battle scenes. Despite the militaristic nature of the topic this movie goes down well with both men and woman. This is not solely because it stars the good looking Mel Gibson (so my wife tells me), but it's because he excels in his role and is aptly supported by others in the cast. I know of a number of people who have watched this movie well over 50 times and can recite the lines verbatim. Okay, we are not all that devoted to the movie, but it goes some way to conveying how much this movie has captured most peoples imagination. Can't really add too much more about this movie that hasn't been said already by previous reviewers, suffice to say this movie has done exceedingly well, what it set out to do. Essential viewing really.
Rating: Summary: Cool but it makes me want to watch Mad Max 1 & 3 instead. Review: Nice job Mel G. This movie is a classic in my mind. The only difference between Gibson & the real Wallace is that William Wallace had a beard! Mostly everyone has seen this movie by now so if you want an opinion on the DVD or VHS... I say both of them are worth the price.
Rating: Summary: An Epic that will be forevermore in our hearts!! Review: I saw Gone With the Wind when I was a child, and many times since, and like true classics you will find something to love about the film each time. Braveheart is a classic such as this.Okay, there are vast inaccuracies, so I will not bother to address them all for it would take pages. Randall Wallace did the screen play (had never heard of William until a vacation in Scotland!!) maintains you should never let historical facts get in the way of a good screenplay and he went to great length to demonstrate this!! But what was a so so story of Wallace rising against Longshanks, is refined and fleshed out by Mel as director. It is a long movie, and yet the pace is quick, with super battle sequences (though the Battle of Sterling Bridge is fought with the bridge here!!). I do take umbrage at the very unfair treatment of Robert the Bruce, shown fighting on the English side. At that point, he had been commanded to turn over his daughter as hostage/guarantee to Longshanks to insure he remained loyal to the British side. He had refused to do so, which meant he would have never been with the British host at Falkirk. There was no need to besmirch Bruce's character in order to make Wallace the super hero. Both played pivotal roles in the fight for Scottish freedom. Patrick McGoohan (Secret Agent, Prisoner) is frighteningly perfect as Longshanks. Angus MacFadden is gorgeous as Bruce. Sophia Marceau is radiant as the Edward II's Princess. Ian Bannen give his usual strong character support as Bruce the elder. Just forget history. There are plenty of good books out there if you wish to get the real facts of Wallace. What Mel delivers as director and as Wallace is a deeply moving, beautiful tale that catches the spirit of Wallace. Any movie that makes William Wallaces known around the world has more than fulfilled is purpose.
Rating: Summary: A DVD for the Man's Man Review: EVERY MAN DIES, BUT NOT EVERY MAN REALLY LIVES... This is the central theme in Mel Gibson's Braveheart. Braveheart is an epic story of greed, revenge, and what some would say is the greatest of all Love. It is based on the story of William Wallace, a 13th century Scotsman who sought revenge for the death of his father, brother and their tiny little town. Mel Gibson's directorial debut could not have done better. The audiences thought it was amazing , the Oscars thought enough of it to name it best picture. William Wallace is an inspiration to all who have been oppressed under the tyranny of evil. He lives with his uncle until he is in his twenties and goes back to his village which is now under the rule of Edward the Longshanks. He wants to marry the women he loves. After she is taken from him, he sets out to free Scotland from oppression. The sheer magnitude of this production has never been seen before. The battle scenes are filmed at great angles. The cinematography is out of this world. This movie basically has something for everyone. It has Romance, Conflict, and it definitely has enough action to satisfy anybody. This movie is one of the greatest epics of our time. It is definitely a movie to buy and view over and over again. William Wallace will stop at nothing to achieve his goal and to avenge his beloved. Legend has it that when William Wallace was tortured and killed he was asked if he had any last words and he yelled out "Freedom"!!!!. His arms and legs were sent to the four corners of Britain as a sign of what would happen to those who opposed the King. "They may take our lives, but they will never take our freedom"
Rating: Summary: NOT for the weak stomach. Review: 5 star action, 5 star acting, and a 5 star storyline and plot. What more could you ask for? How about: 5 ACADEMY AWARDS: Best Picture Best Director: Mel Gibson Best Cinematography Best Makeup Best Sound Effects Editing INTERESTING: I was shocked to see that "BRAVEHEART" didn't win an acting award, nor did it get a nomination. This is absurd, Mel Gibson undoubtingly proved himself by giving the performance of his career. Also, the plot and storyline should have won an award. A BIT OF ADVICE: some people haven't seen this movie, and want to, but don't like watching brutal medieval warfare in gruesome detail. I wouldn't reccomend this to you if all this is true on your part, and if you try to skip these war scenes then you might as well skip the movie or you'll be the only one who's seen the movie, but doesn't know what it's about.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST FILM EVER MADE!!!!!!!! Review: Braveheart is the best film that has ever been made in the history of film-making!!! The actors are great and the storyline superb-even though it is not 100 percent historically correct! I love it and mel gibson soooo much-and no matter what i say-nobody will understand how much that is!! if anyone wants to critcise it in any way-please leave a message and ill answer you!!!
Rating: Summary: Great film, Lousy History Review: This film really had me at sixes and sevens as to how to review it. On the one hand, I study medieval history. On that standard the film would rate zero stars. On the other hand, this is truly fine cinema. So I will go with the latter over the former. Let's start with the bad. This film has nothing to do with history. When I say "nothing" I mean that there are some correct names but that is about it. William Wallace was the son of a Lowland knight. He never besieged York, much less took it. The princess the film suggests he had an affair with was about 8 years old at the time of Wallace's death. His death was not a public ceremony and execution. There were no flaming bogs. No one painted their faces blue -- PERIOD! Most of the clothing styles shown are from a couple hundred years later. Robert the Bruce never fought with the English. I could keep going. The point here is that you have to assume that the film takes place in a parallel dimension where there happens to be a country called Scotland, there happens to be another country called England, there happens to be a man named William Wallace and he fights against the country of England. In other words, don't try to take this for reality in the slightest. Conversely, this is a whopping great bit of cinematic grandeur! Gibson brings real conviction to his role. So does Patrick McGoohan (there is an enemy truly worthy of loathing!). One of the marvelous touches of this film is that every time you are back in Scotland you see sweeping panoramas of the land -- the feeling is a true love of country. When the action switches back to the English, you are inside of castles or rancid small towns. Gibson/Wallace if fighting for a land; Edward/McGoohan is fighting for power. Even the cinematography makes this obvious. The battle scenes are gruesome, gutwrenching, and truly awe-inspiring. No one just clutches his chest and dies here -- be forewarned, the battle scenes were only one-upped in their gruesome reality by "Saving Private Ryan". These are not scenes for the squeamish. On the other hand even this pounds home the notion that the Scots are fighting FOR something -- under-equipped, undermanned, they are willing to fight toe-to-toe with their enemy as long as their are led by someone with conviction. Gibson's Wallace gives that conviction. "Where are you going?" "I'm going to start a war." This is a film that drags you in and keeps you hooked. You care about the good guys. You care about the bad guys, too, but in a very different way ("Hmmm, if I could do something vicious to Edward I, what would I do?"). This is a film of high drama and a few other the top performances (like that mad little Irishman). If you like sweeping action films like "Lawrence of Arabia", this film will draw you in. History it is not; grand cinema it is.
Rating: Summary: Gripping history Review: Mel Gibson brings history to life in the blockbusting movie "Bravehart." Story line and drama filled plot will keep watchers on the edge of their seats. Gibson's talent abounds. Not all movies end as we want but when you are following history it rarely happens and "Bravehart" is no exception. Keep your box of tissue close for this one. Rating: Summary: Must-have for all DVD movie collectors Review: Action-Love-Drama all packed into this nice disc. Gotta love men killing each other in kilts!
