Summary: Amazing movie with an exceptional plot and great twists
Review: This movie is a wonderful work of art that should have won an Oscar! The movie is set in France with lush backgrounds and a truly incredible story based on the book by Alexander Dumas. Not only is it a terrific tale of love and survival, but it is also a feast for the adventure fan. The Count of Monte Cristo is filled with swordfights, daring escapes, and backstabbing comrades to satisfy any viewer. I highly reccommend this movie.

Summary: A great movie
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed the Count of Monte Cristo. I thought that the actors were superb, James Caveziel and Richard Harris did a phenomenal job. The storyline was a very well told tale, and they did a good remake in 2 1/2 hours compared to Dumas's over 1,000 page book. The ending made you really think about Dumas's cleverness in writing the novel. I give this movie a 5 star, but I don't recommend it to anyone under 12 for violence and gore.

Summary: another screw up
Review: At first the movie showed great promise that the hollywood would finally learn how to make good movies based on popular classics. However, it's another screw up. Sure, the action and adventure are top notch, but the story is completely off.

Summary: Entertaining
Review: I was happy to see that they made a new film based on Dumas' classic novel "The Count of Monte Cristo." "The Count of Monte Cristo" is one of my favorite books. I saw this the weekend it was released in theaters. Although it did not follow as closely to the novel as I would have liked I can understand what they left out. It would be very difficult to represent the mindset of some characters as Dumas portrayed them in the book. Even though they did alter some characters and leave others out altogether, the film was very entertaining. I laughed and clinched my fist at appropriate parts. One character is very successful in his part for comic relief. I rate this movie four out of five stars and recommend it to all audiences.

Summary: Dumas' story is the star of this movie
Review: If you can get away from trying to adhere closesly to the book, you can really enjoy this film. I think it struck a nice balance between being a "period piece" and been completely anachronistic. The scenes where the dialog is more modern than you'd expect are funny and well spaced throughout the movie.

Overall, the story itself is so enthralling that it it is the true star of this production, which I found fun and entertaining.

Summary: disappointing.
Review: I found it to be an insult to the novel, discrediting the artistic merit of the original. The flaky acting, the ludicrously flamboyant setting, rocky flow of the movie, and the unbelievable characters - I couldn't contain myself from making sarcastic commentaries at certain dialogues. It wasn't necessarily painful to watch, but I certainly had better ways to spend my money and time. There's so many ways to entertain yourself; steer yourself away from this one.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: Another great movie of 2002! One of the best as well. Revenge rarely gets sweeter than it does in The Count of Monte Cristo, a rousing, impeccably crafted adaptation of Alexandre Dumas père's literary classic. It doesn't follow the book exactly, but I thought it was pretty acurate. It's about a wrongfully accused Frenchman who endures 13 years of prison and torment, then uses a hidden treasure to finance elaborate vengeance on those who wronged him. Guy Pearce is equally effective as Dantes's betraying nemesis, and Richard Harris tops his Harry Potter wizardry with a humorous turn as Dantes's fellow prisoner and mentor. When I say humorous, I mean humorous. This film is pretty funny by the way, so if you are thinking about buying it, I say go for it! You won't be dissappointed.

Summary: Very enjoyable for men and women....
Review: This would be a great film to watch on a date. There is revenge. There is unending love. Sword fighting. Secrecy. Treasure.

Edwourd returns 13 years after being wrongfully imprisoned for treason in the horrific Chateau D'if prison. Armed with the education he has learned from an imprisoned priest (Richard Harris)and the treasure he has given him he returns to bring vengeance against those that imprisoned him. His deception is masterful.

Look for a hidden message as well.

Summary: Great Job
Review: Most of the older style movies really turn me off, but not this one. I really enjoyed it. Too many of the "old" ones try too hard to be dramatic -- kinda like high school actors who have to talk too loud and be too flamboyant. This movie was a pleasant surprise. The actors are really good.

The plot is good and keeps you in your seat. Some of the things are a little predictable, but it is hard not to want to make sure that your hopes come true. You can feel yourself cringe and want to shout "don't do this" or "don't do that" or "get'em".

The cinematography is very good and appropriate. There are not some of the anachronisms of many other film interpretations.

If you watch one "old style" movie per year, this one should be the one you watch this year.

Summary: Mistitled perhaps?
Review: Okay, if you are a person who loved the original novel - you will not enjoy this movie as an adaptation. But, if you haven't read Dumas' classic, you'll probably think this movie is very good. And it is a good movie - well acted, good pacing, excellent sets (love the period pieces). It's sword fights and buried treasure and revenge most sweet. As a whole, a very enjoyable film. Too bad they didn't just forget trying to sell it as "The Count of Monte Cristo" and name it something else.
