Summary: A Classic Rush From a Classic Action Film
Review: "The Count of Monte Cristo" is a rendition of Dumas' 1844 novel. It portrays the life of Edmond Dantes, a man falsly accused treason. He is imprisoned for 13 years, and vows revenge on those who betrayed him. Once he breaks out, he uncovers a ledgendary treasure, and buys a life as a count. With this, he calculates his plan to avenge his life. "The Count of Monte Cristo" is a film that encompasses action, drama, and even a little bit of comedy. Guy Pearce ("Memento," "Ravenous") is phenomenal as the archetypal villian, and James Caviezel ("Angel Eyes," "Frequency") is very convincing. It is a very classic action film ala "The Three Musketeers." (Coincidentally by the same author.... hmmmm) "Count" on a good time with "The Count of Monte Cristo."

Summary: Fabulously done!
Review: After seeing "The Lord of the Rings" 4 times in the theater I saw a preview and thought I would go see this one. First let me say that this is a wonderful movie! At first I thought it started out a little slow, but then after a little it sped up and was a 'can't take your eyes off the screen' type of movie. However, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I was expecting more action-as in swordplaying. Well actually I was expecting another "Mask of Zorro" movie(Antonio Banderas). That was the first movie that came to my head while waiting to see "The Count of Monte Cristo". But I suppose they wanted to make it for a variety of audiences instead of just for the action movie type of people. I think that they did a very good job. Like someone earlier said, this movie works on all levels. This movie is perfect for anyone. But seeing that I have never read the book I obviously don't have an opinion on what it looks like to them. But for those of you who don't know the plot line it is very unpredictable and exciting and worth seeing.

Summary: Excellent Family Entertainment
Review: I didn't go to this movie expecting much. After all, this story has been told over and over again. But I was pleasantly surprised by a rare film, at least in this day and age, that succeeded in not only being very entertaining, but by being so with nary a curse. I'm no prude, but this movies ability to entertain was undoubtedly enhanced by the fact that I could take my kids with me with no remorse. They (aged 10 and 15) enjoyed it as much as I did. Maybe the lashings and some of the sword fighting could be sort of intense for a young kid, but that same kid will probably go home and wreak relentless havoc on his PlayStation2 anyway. My point is that I believe that this film will be enjoyed by anyone drawn to the story, and it will offend no one. A rare feat indeed. Richard Harris was a standout by the way....

Summary: Dumas Fans Will find This Movie Absolutely Dissapointing
Review: How can a movie director abandon a wondefull Dumas script and explore his own horrible version of the story is beyond me. This movie could have been a masterpiece, like the wonderful adapatation of the Lord of the Rings. However, as a Dumas admirer I was deeply disappointed by what I perceived to be a catastrophic remake of a brilliant novel. I cannot understand why the movie director did not stick with the original book! The book is an adventure classic of all times, and yet the director acted as though Dumas' plot was not good enough for him. However, if you haven't read the book you will probably enjoy this superficial and deceiving movie.

Summary: Best Film in Years!
Review: I currently went to the movies with my daughter with the intention of seeing something of low morale standard, and insult to the human intelligence. Seems that is what "Hollywood" is deeming profitable now days. I do not agree. Being a fellow writer, and history buff, I fully enjoyed this film. The cast and location was beyond superb. Good verses evil, with good provailing in the end, is what is true to life, and well worth our efforts of hardships if our hearts are right. This story reknews hope. Better yet, a faith in God, who does know all. I give this movie "5" stars, because that is the hightest I can. Great movie, and one that should surpass the length of time.

Great movie. A classic to be hold!

Summary: Well-acted, but terrible adaptation
Review: From the previews, this movie looked really exciting. But for those who have actually read the book, watching this movie might be a little disturbing (to understate it). Hollywood has had its way yet again in this movie squashing events together and changing the plot so it is "convenient." Otherwise, there were some jokes that made it entertaining. Has anyone noticed the leather-bound books in the prison cells that appeared out of nowhere?

Summary: A very weak adaption of the novel
Review: Sadly to say, this film is a barebone, cheesy adaption of Duma's original epic. The original novel was excellent, it had taken the Count of Cristo decades to plot and carry out his revenge bit by bit. It was sweet revenge at its ultimate; his enemies were slowly tourmented in a cat & mouse sort of game. However in this movie, events fly by so fast that the entire story seems to happen over night. Most key characters were either deleted or under developed, and large chucks of the main story lines were cutted. These two reasons had made the Count's revenge very unsatisfying, as such it's my opinion that they had ruined a great story.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: I've already seen this movie two times, and I'm going back again! It is an excellent movie, beautifully acted! The movie keeps going at a steady pace so it doesn't lag anywhere. The location is also beautiful. The sweeping shots of the landscape make you feel like you're there. A must-see for an action or adventure fan!

Summary: Count on Revenge-And A Good Movie
Review: The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas, is a book that has been made into movies countless times, most notably in earlier times. While some incarnations have been better than others, this version, weighing in at a solid 2 hours and 20 minutes manages to capture the spirit of The Count without capturing the monotonous-for a movie at least-detail that the book goes into. Comparisons between the book and this latest remake are inevitable, and The Count holds up well, if not to the letter. Most of the beginning is the same, with a few notable exceptions such as the return to the Isle of Elba becoming purely altruistic and actually depicted. From then on, the movie begins to change many of the plot points from Dumas' novel, but they're not changes I regret. Even though most of the specifics of his revenge and his escape(the meeting with the smugglers) are different, I did not at any time felt that this impeded the progress of the movie-I was too busy enjoying the movie.
