Summary: 2 hours I cannot get back
Review: Oh my goodness was this a bad movie. I went to see it, knowing that it had not receibed glowing reviews, only to be astonished. Astonished by just how poorly written and poorly acted it was. The scenery was beautiful, but the cinematography ranged from gradeous to MTV.

If you don't like poorly faked accents, and even "French" characters speaking in American accents, don't see this movie.

If you like cinema, and not just movies, don't see this film.

My goodness it was bad.

Summary: A classic hero's tale...
Review: Our hero, Edmond Dantes, is sailor aboard a ship whose captain becomes ill. He lands on the island in which Napoleon is exiled, and upon accepting a letter that Napoleon wishes him to deliver in secret, he is reeled into an adventure of intrigue and revenge.

In this movie you are catapulted through time to 19th century France, where honor is easily bought and sold. Fernand Mondego, Edmond's best friend, will stop at nothing to achieve the prize of Edmond's fiancee, Mercedes.

This is a movie for those who love historical fiction, the tale and scenery are classic, to say the least, and the actors bring these characters to life on screen. You will loathe the enemies and cheer for the heroes. This is not a chick flick at any rate, the testosterone in the sword fights alone are enough to drown in. Enjoy!

Summary: The film that has everything
Review: I went to this movie because of two reasons: To see Guy Pearce, and because I love this particular Dumas story. I was immensely rewarded. It was a faithful retelling, and it was filmed in an extremely entertaining way. The action sequences were believable and nail-biting, and the performances of Guy Pearce, Jim Caveziel and Richard Harris were terrific. This is the way movies used to be made.

Summary: The Count gets my vote for outstanding Picture of the Year!
Review: I remember a week before "The Count Of Monte Cristo" actually appeared in theatres, there was an enormous roar from people about this movie going to be amazing, and wonderful, and just about everything good you can think of. I was under the impression that this movie was going to be basically like the book, and like the earlier version on film. I was knocked off my feet, because I am still in a state of amazement. Kevin Reynolds (director) has outdone himself. The setting for this movie couldn't have been better. The building up the story line was impressive. Throught the first half of the movie I couldn't wait for him to seek his revenge on his ex-best friend. I suppose that my biggest suprise was the performance of James Caviezel (The Count). I don't really want to ruin the movie for anyone, but I have to say that I was a bit dissapointed.

Throughout the entire movie, the whole theme is REVENGE. And everyone is being built up towards the final fight scene, which is expected to occur. And really, there wasn't anything outstanding. I felt that it was over too quickly. The mark of a Great Film, is one that leaves you in a state of aw. This movie could have done this for me, but what I was waiting for, came and went really fast. Otherwise, this movie is a 5 star movie. Go and watch it, but don't expect a wonderful ending. There may be a happy ending, but there isn't alot of lasting meaning.

Summary: a moviegoer in los angeles, Ca
Review: Although the acting is good, and the movie is full of action, it is the worst adaptation of a novel that I have ever seen. I read the book many times as a teen and adult and loved it, but this movie, with its made up characters, and plot ,would make 'Alexander Dumas' turn in his grave.

Summary: Critics are wrong
Review: Being an extremely picky movie critic myself, I feel obligated to provide my own two cents when I find the critics completely wrong. I usually heed the warnings of critics, and even though the Count of Monte Cristo received mixed to poor reviews, I went ahead and saw it anyway. This movie was a friendly reminder that if you listen to the critics all the time, you might just miss out on something.

This was a great movie. The two hours flew by, I didn't find a dull moment, and while the humor was a touch on the corny side, I feel it actually benefited the movie. I'm not saying I didn't have any problems with the movie (slightly melodramatic lead-in to ending) but I came out happy and fulfilled. I wasn't the only one, either. The whole audience seemed to laugh, gasp and cheer together, proving that other people besides myself enjoyed the Count of Monte Cristo as well.

See it yourself and make up your own mind.

Summary: James Caviezel is excellent!
Review: I loved The Count of Monte Cristo Movie. It was very well done. The storyline and action were paced well and the characters developed nicely. Jim Caviezel did a great job taking his character, Dantes, from a naive young man who trusted his friend, to a vengeful but still noble person. His emotional range is impressive. Richard Harris was also superb in the part of the priest. Guy Pierce played the villain with sly emotion and is always great to watch. It is a fun, intelligent thrill ride of a movie!

Summary: Very Exciting - Now I will read the book
Review: This movie was well done. I communicated very specific emotions without being overly graphic or too trite. The viewer is drawn into the adventure. Pity that it missed the chance to accurately portray the Dumas tale.

Summary: A Great Remake
Review: When I decided to go see this movie, I did not expect very much-----after all I had seen the remake of The Man In The Iron Mask with Leonardo Decaprie and was supremely disappointed!! This remake, however, was completely DIFFERENT---I could not have asked for anything better. It was GREAT---a MUST-SEE!! I anxiously await the arrival of the DVD into the marketplace but, in the meantime, I will go back to the theater to see it again and probably yet again!!! Don't miss this one.
