Summary: Only Time Will Tell If Titanic Will Sink or Swim....
Review: I haven't made up my mind about this film. This is a 3 1/2 hour long soap opera nevertheless.

What I Like

-Attention to accurate detail in recreating history
-Special effects (example.. the breath in the cold air)
-The musical score (except Celine Dion's solo)
-The costumes and representing the time period (Gilded/Edwardian/Georgian Age)
-The contrast between the rich and poor, social classes
-"Nearer My God to Thee" and the depth of emotion within those final scenes
-Real and actual footage of the real Titanic

What I Hate

-The melodrama and the love story
-Celine Dion's solo My Heart Will Go On
-The fact that as a third class passenger, Jack Dawson would never have been allowed on the 1st class decks!

Grade B+

Summary: Forever a Phenominon
Review: Few movies can rival the emotion and passion spilling from the scenes of "Titanic". With $1 Billion at the global box office, 11 Oscars, a haunting and record-breaking musical score, unforgettable scenes, and an epic second half, "Titanic" sailed its way into movie-making history books. Even with the historical and tragic ending already a give-away didnt stop "Titanic" from becoming the most famous and popular movie of all time.

Featuring an all star cast, including the leads Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, Billy Zane, Bill Paxon, "The Lord of the Ring"'s Bernard Hill and Gloria Stewart, the characters are superbly portrayed and relistic.

In the re-telling of the fateful maiden voyage of the R.M.S Titanic, Oscar winning director, James Cameron weaved a personal story into the journey. A story of strength, courage, hope, and above all LOVE. DiCaprio and Winslet blend together as one, as they bring to life the unbreakable passionate bond between two people with completely differnet pasts, but identicle dreams and joys. For a splendid first half, witness the growing friendship between Rose, a girl from the lords, and jack, a boy from the street.

Towards the middle of the film, you grow increasingly nervous, for soon, the terrible end will begin. And sure enough, the dreaded fall of the greatest ship begins, and Rose and Jack must begin the fight of their lives - the fight to survive, to escape the freezing depths of the North Atlantic and fight their way to the destined shores of New York.

You will laugh, frown, love and cry your way through this truly timeless epic. Soon you, like me, will build a very special place in your heart and keep it locked there forever. "Titanic" touched me in a way a movie has never touched before, i hope it does the same for you! The Heart really DOES go on when you relive the passion of "Titanic"!

Summary: Titanic is an amazing epic movie
Review: This movie is an excellent movie that represents a huge amount of work to produce such a stunning portrayal of the Titanic. This movie is about the tragic Titanic accident, but it is based around the lives of two young people who get onto the ship in very different ways.

Rosa Dawson is a beautiful woman who is a member of a rich family of nobility. She arrives on the Titanic because she is engaged to a rich man who will accompany her on the ship.

Jack is a poor Irish young man who luckily gets a ticket to go onto the Titanic by winning a card game. He is elated and arrives on the ship seeking an adventure in his nomadic life. He is a 3rd class passenger, although for him he's very lucky.

Jack sees Rose on the ship from below on the lower deck, and is immediately entranced by her beauty. Later, Jack saves Rose's life and they engage in a romance that perils Rose's relationship with her fiance. What ensues is a wonderful love story that develops.

The quality of this movie is superb and all the elements of the ship were recreated and look very realistic. The Titanic is touted to be "unsinkable" and is the most lavish ship of its time. However, the sailing of this amazing ship goes awry. If you haven't seen this classic movie then you must see it. I would caution against letting young kids see it as there's some adult material in here (some nudity and lots of sensual activity). My reason for only giving 4 stars is that the movie gets slow at parts (is very long at more than 3 hours) and the DVD is devoid of special features or any extras.

Summary: Mystery Solved
Review: I was gratified to finally watch this excellent documentary on DVD, being that I could pause, back up, etc, to thoroughly analyze the causes behind the tragic sinking of a great ship. And, as nearly always happens in such cases, the primary cause turned upon a simple, seemingly insignificant coincidence: If the two sailors in the lookout nest had not been distracted by Jack and Rose kissing all giggly with each other on the deck below, and had continually kept their vision focused forward, they would have spotted the iceberg sufficiently early to allow the ship to be guided around it. Accordingly, Jack and Rose join Mrs. O'Leary's cow as the heretofore anonymous precipitators of terrible tragedy, and we should all be grateful to James Cameron's detective work for digging up the truth.

Summary: Leonardo DiCaprio, turn blue and sink already!
Review: This is one of the most appallingly bad big-budget Hollywood films of the decade. The film leaves no trite cliche un-used. For something worthwhile along the same (White Star) line, I suggest picking up a copy of 1958's A Night To Remember (Criterion Collection). Fact beats pedestrian fiction every time.

Summary: Titanic: A film Review
Review: I have great respect for movies. Like most of you reading this review,i have whitnessed both timeless classics and the sort that has you reaching for the sick bag. Unfortunately "Titanic" definately fits into the latter catergory. Which is a real shame because I appreciate and respect James Cameron as a director - I think he is brilliant, But no matter how hard I have tried I can not bring myself to consider this, a good film. Its so bad you are actually looking forward to the ship's demise at the hands of the iceberg, for the hope of some excitement! Jonathan Ross put it best when he said, "It sank..... There, I have just saved you four hours of your life." Infact coming to think of it, the mear fact that you are reading this review, tells me you must have thought about parting with your money for this atrocity. Dont! You can do better, have some standards, please! Im sure you have heard countless tales of how this movie is "so amazing." Do you know why people think that? Its certainly not the idea that this is a good film. Its the fasination of the chemistry (which isnt all that great anyway) between the two protagonists. Come on! Dont you get out anymore or something? All you have to do is walk down the street and you will whitness that kind of "bonding." In conclusion "Titanic" is a piece of poor, romantic, trashy, rubbish. And the fact that this film was awarded with anything othere than a sick bag just proves that the hollywood film critics really wouldn't know a good film if it slapped them round the side of the face. Should you buy it? Actually, come to think of it, it is worth buying just to stare and laugh at the cover, then burn it - otherwise, stay well clear.
