Summary: Very thin.
Review: This story has already been done, and better, in an old British movie called "A Night to Remember". Instead of the grand sweep of a documentary-style film, we have here Romeo and Juliet on a Boat. If that strikes you as a great idea for a movie, my condolences. But you all loved it, so I guess that means I have no taste. OK fine.

Despite 3+ hours, we don't get to really know anyone on the Titanic, except for the two romantic "heroes" -- who are very one-dimensional, to say the least -- and the fiancee played by Billy Zane who, if he had a mustache, would've no doubt twirled the ends of it while cackling with the kind of glee reminiscent of Victorian melodrama. If you think these 3 characters are deeply written, my condolences again. On this review panel, there seems to be a lot of controversy about the actors who portrayed these roles. Why bother? Leo DiCaprio was just fine as the romantic "hero". This role is a cardboard cutout -- how brilliant do you expect DiCaprio to be? Winslet sort of aggravated me: her melodramatic acting style suggests that she thinks she's in some serious Merchant/Ivory movie. And Billy Zane has no chance in such a stupid role. (I DID like the guy who played Zane's evil henchman, probably because he's old and wise enough to negotiate himself around a lousy script.)

So: 3 hours, no character development. Why is the movie so long? Because Cameron decided to stretch it out (interminably!) with a "framing" sequence. Rose, now 100 yrs. old, is TELLING us the story, you see, after the Titanic's treasures are being dredged up. One teentsy-weentsy problem: if Rose is TELLING the story of her grand Love Affair on a Boat, how is she privy to details that are beyond the scope of her 1st-person narration? How does she know of conversations between, say, the Captain and his crew? or her evil fiancee's plot to frame poor Jack? You see, it's these kind of illogicalities that most of you seem not to bother with. But they bother me, all right, especially at 3-hrs length! Hackneyed scripts suck, and I don't care how many of you disagree with me.

Finally, the ending, where Rose is in Ocean Liner Heaven with Jack and the Whole Crew (where's her husband[s] and kids? in steerage?) is so sentimental that the word "appalling" comes to mind. Sweet dreams, kiddies. . . .

Summary: I was not moved
Review: I've seen more moving dog food commercials than this movie. The special effects could not make up for: bad acting, bad casting, bad script and a stupid story line. When the ship sunk (surprise) I didn't care. And when Jack drowned I could care even less. However, I was relieved it was finally over so I could use the restroom. Titanic was Exxxtreeeemelyyy long. To get anything out of this film you'ld have to be a young girl in love with Leonardo (can't act)De Caprio. Or some how otherwise mentally impaired.

Summary: Accurate - entertaining - heart-wrenching.
Review: I am a middle-aged woman who went to see Titanic with my 50ish year old husband and WE LOVED THIS FILM. So much for only 14 year old girls loving it. And by the way, my theatre was packed with middle aged (actually all ages) people seeing Titanic, not just young people.

I have been a Titanic buff for many years and have read over 7 books on the subject and have seen most of the movies about it. Cameron's version was quite accurate because he also had one of the Titantic Society's lead historians on the set to make sure he was accurate.

The love story brought it all home to make the suffering of hundreds on that ship felt by the two fictional characters who in turn, made us feel and understand what everyone on that ship was experiencing: fear, cold, survival, losing family members and lovers to a slow death. This movie made us FEEL. That's the genius behind Cameron. Thank you. Jennifer

Summary: Don't judge a movie by it's actor
Review: Okay, so I hate Leonardo Dicaprio. I respect his acting and all, but when it came down to going to see Titanic, I was hesitant. Let this be a rule. Never allow a grudge against an actor like Leo deter you from seeing a damn good movie (same goes for Gwenyth Paltrow). And as much as I had to admit it, I found myself even feeling sorry for him by the end. For Leonardo! Imagine that! Oh, well. When I like Leo, it's gotta say something for the quality of the film, doesn't it?

Summary: Looking back at TITANIC
Review: Here is an extract from a soon to be web-site: Talkfilm. Talkfilm is dedicated to giving you the chance to voice your opinions. Please send your movie reviews, articles and news to us and we will email you with the web-site's address when it is launched.

Titanic is an amazing film: it has something for everyone. Leo for the girls and Kate for the boys, a love story for women, special FX for men, as well as history lessons and memories for the oldies. Add to that the biggest ship ever, sinking with guns onboard and you can begin to see why it was the biggest film, ever.

The film manages to convey a strange feeling over you, one of claustrophobia, pride, fear and hope. It is moving for all but the most cynical, these are the people who were determined to hate it, who had read critical reviews and felt it wasn't cool to like it. They feel they have to hate Leo because .................Cont.

Summary: The one down-fall of an otherwise excellent movie.....
Review: Titanic is an over all good movie. It stays close to the historical facts of the actual event. That is one of the primary reasons i believe this to be a good movie. But there is one unfortunate down-fall, as aforementioned. And that is the casting of Leonardo DiCaprio in the role of Jack Dawson. I dont dislike for the same reasons most other males dont. As a four year drama student and a Thespian, I simply did not believe DiCaprio to be Dawson. Its not simply Titanic, its every other movie he has performed in that I have seen. He just does not give a convincing performance.

Thank you

Summary: A good movie, but quit playing that damn song!!!!!
Review: First of all, no, I am not a adolescant female swooning over Leonardo Dicaprio, and second of all, yes, I am a 17 year old male who doesn't find Kate Winslet attractive.

Having said that, I found the film to be quite entertaining, even though I usually don't go for romance films that get too gushy. Both actors were great in their roles, but the true talent lies in Kathy Bates (well, duh!) and Billy Zane. He is a delightfully hateful weasel and she is the only rich person in the film that doesn't make you want to do harm to yourself. And the film is actually historically correct.

The only thing I didn't like were the areas in the screenplay that didn't make sense. For example, why would they want to stay ON the ship as long as possible? Don't they notice it's at a funny angle? And the line "this is wherre we first met" is so sappy, I could top my pancakes with it. Aside from that this is by far Leo's least annoying work.

Summary: My Favorite Movie Ever
Review: I thought that the acting was the best i've ever seen! I think that Cameron's idea of the voyage was incredable!
