Summary: Excellent video and audio quality. but no commentary?
Review: Finally after waiting One whole year after the VHS release of Titanic, DVD owners can rejoice. The video quality is spectacular, especially the overhead reverse panning shots high over the ship. These particular shots in the movie theaters, and the VHS release depicted passengers as poorly rendered CGI motionless pegs, not people. If you look at the DVD, though, It seems as though the scenes were redone with much improved CGI. They probably did not want to call attention to that flaw by announcing "With Newly Rendered Scenes" as this might call attention to something many did not notice anyway. Anyway, the picture is crystal clear. The 5.1 Audio is also well done. I wouldn't have minded a few more suprises from the rear/side speakers. All channels were very full though. A good scene is when Titanic's engines are begining to churn as the ship leaves Southhampton. Overall music and sound effects are just like the theater experience, or better depending on your home theater. Cheers to Dolby Digital 5.1! I am pleased with this DVD release except for one thing. There is no commentary track! I understand that the movie itself might take up so much space that a production featurette or making-of supplement wouldn't fit, but throwing on a mono audio track of James Cameron's commentary would have taken minimal space. With one full year between VHS and DVD release there was ample time to prepare one. It would have added so much to the DVD. Oh well, I'll have to rent the DVD Directors Cut in a year or so. Titanic DVD Director's Cut??? Why not? You didn't think the marketing frenzy was over yet, did you? They'll put one out. It's only a matter of time.

Summary: I;ve watched it already 75 times
Review: I love this move. The reseach on this movie was so vast and well done, that if you forget about Rose & Jack for a moment, you will be taken back in time to that infamous day 4-13-12. Every book I've read ( 12 ) convinces me more and more of the film's historical accuracy. The special effects are beyond good there great. I am a former Merchant Seaman who has worked on old vessels in the past. So, I know the details that were made to show that you are on a ship was fantasic. I constantly watch this film for technical mistakes. There are some, but big deal. Watch the movie, buy a book, buy a music cd. Yes TITANIC GETS 100 STARS FROM ME.

Summary: I've been waiting a LONG time for this on DVD!
Review: When I first saw Titanic in the theater, I was wonderstruck...the setting was memorable, the action was intense, the dialogue was powerful, and the special effects were mind-boggling.

Just to let you all know, my dad co-owns a steel company that helped build the hydraulic lift for the sinking scene. :-) He got a "Titanic" book free with dozens of pictures, insider info, etc.

My sister bought the movie on VHS, and I had been looking for it on DVD ever since - the picture sucked (non-widescreen), and the nature of VHS is such that the tapes would disintegrate with time.

DVD is cool because you get a sharp, widescreen picture as it was intended to be viewed, special sound treatment like THX and Dolby 5.1 Surround, and the extra info about the film accessible from the main menu. Neato! I love the movie and now that I can get it on DVD I like it even more.

Summary: Not Very Satisfying...Oscars are only given for popularity
Review: this movie's only good points were the direction and the production and the special effects, and the traces from real-life characters. the actors were awful, and it took 2 hours for the movie to get to the sinking. leonardo di caprio is a bad actor, and kate winslet isn't acting: she is a whore. this movie made me sick.

Summary: Featureless DVD for an award winning film.
Review: The film is obviously great and the image on DVD is excellent. But man, this is probably the poorest DVD I've ever purchased. No featurette, no commentary tracks, no production notes, no cast bios, no special effects documentaries, wide screen format only. Very dissapointing. It's just a barebones DVD. I'll be very annoyed if they come out with a full featured edition in the future.

Summary: A highly over-rated, but good movie.
Review: Yes, "Titanic" is just a movie. Just like any other big-budgeted, over-rated, popular film, "Titanic" lacks many of the characteristics of a truly timeless classic. The sad thing about "Titanic" has nothing to do with the tragedy of the relationship between Rose & Jack. For such a grand, beautifully pieced together and filmed movie, "Titanic" lacks a decent script and only goes surface-deep. Compared to such excellent films as "L.A. Confidential" and "Saving Private Ryan," once you've seen "Titanic," you've seen all there is to see. Great movies offer something different every time you watch them. I feel, however, that not having more than a surface value is "Titanic's" only flaw. James Cameron paid so much attention to detail in his epic love story, that you could even see the porthole frames fly off the boat as it broke in two. The genius that saves the movie is the set design, art direction, James Horner's astonishing score and Kate Winslet. Forget Leo, ladies, Kate is who carried "Titanic" out of the deep to modern-day cineplexes. The DVD provides an excellent picture and sound transfer that preserves "Titanic's" beautiful moments. Now, if there were only a special edition available...

Summary: there should have been a choice on the format.
Review: I waited for so long for Titanic to finally come out on dvd. After seeing it I realized that I wasted all this time waiting for It. There should have been a choice of format; why only on a widescreen version? Don't they realize that not everybody is into big screens, or that not everyone can afford one? I would not encourage spending money buying It. Unless the movie industry realizes that we (the consumers) want a choice between standard or widescreen versions of future movies; I predict that a lot of people will stick to vhs tapes only. That could mean the end of dvd like beta tapes died years ago. However, the movie is still grand. I will see It 1000 times and that is a promise.
