Summary: "A Great Movie"
Review: I have to say that this movie was extremaly well made. The True Story of a Great legend. "Rocky Marciano" Not only was the acting a 5 star Job well done, But the Music was very Beautiful. The fight scenes were awesome. The best fight was the Marciano/Louis fight. This fight brought a few tears to my eyes. The way they kept goin back and forth. The Music was emotional. The Touchin scene of Rocky visiting Louis after the fight in the dressing room. How that scene went back and forth where Rock was with Louis at the mental institute. Very Terrific film. I can't wait to purchase the Video.

Summary: THE GREATEST BOXING MOVIE EVER
Review: THE ACTING WAS GREAT THE STORY WAS GREAT AND THE FIGHT SCENES WERE GREAT.I liked how it was inspirational, how an unlikely boxer rose to being the only undefeated heavyweight champion.

Summary: Good Film
Review: This is a good film. It doesn't try to make Marciano into a saint, but shows him for what he was, a flawed, but brave Champion. I give this movie 4.5 stars.

On a sidenote, I disagree with the previous reviewer, boxing should not be outlawed, it's the purest and greatest sport out there, and it's simply a question of two men voluntarily fighting each other. Once one guy says 'no mas' the fight is over, hence there is nothing about boxing that brings the sport under the realm of illegality, unless you feel government has the right to tell people what to do and what not to do, i.e. making the government into a baby sitter. Making boxing illegal would be a Civil Liberties violation. To degrade the sport of great men like Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, and Muhammad Ali is rather shameless, and I think boxing gets to much criticism simply because of some bad apples like Mike Tyson (who himself was a great champion) and Don King.

Summary: Anti-boxing film
Review: Watching this you cant help but be overcome by the senselessness of the entire boxing industry. For two decades I followed pro boxing (I almost became one myself!)- Ive seen hundreds of pro fights- both current boxers, and old fighters on film. Marciano and Louis were the best heavyweights ever. This film's emotional highlight is Marciano's destruction of his idol Joe Louis. I predict the boxing industry will eventually be outlawed, or at best watered-down to a harmless sport like pro "wrestling".

Summary: Good, solid biopic.
Review: When I first saw this movie on "Showtime", I didn't think I was gonna be impressed. After all, up to that point I had only seen Jon Favreau in "Rudy" and "Swingers". I couldn't reconcile the guy who played those somewhat neurotic characters with Rocky Marciano, at least not in my head. So it was a pleasant surprise when I watched the movie... Jon Favreau did a great job playing the undefeated champ, Rocky Marciano. I don't know how he did it, but his body looked liked a chiseled heavyweight's!

But where this cable movie really shines is in the character department. There's Favreau as the champ, of course, who trains hard and dreams of getting out of Brockton, Mass., even when everybody tries to put dampers on his dreams; George C. Scott really stands out as Rocky's father, an aging shoemaker who both inspires and is inspired by his son. The best scenes are between the father and son, except for the scene where Rocky finally attains one dream and climbs into the ring for his fight with Joe Louis. Jon Favreau does a great job of expressing Marciano's complex feelings with a simple look, such as when Marciano feels both happy, sad, disappointed and elated when he beats an aging, over-the-hill Joe Louis (oh, what, it's not like I'm giving anything away that didn't happen 50-some-odd years ago).

The boxing choreography itself, well... I wasn't floored or anything, but if you can sit through the (other) "Rocky" movies and tolerate the fight choreography, then this one won't trouble you.

Recommended - ****½, rounded up to 5 stars
