Summary: A film without an audience
Review: Fan service. That's what movies like this are all about. It's the little things that you notice. A Bishop playing with a pen, a design on a door, things that, on their own mean little, but in context make for a good product. AvP is 90 minutes of fan service. It should have been a great thing.

However, AvP fails in getting the big things right, to the point that all the fan service in the world isn't going to help. Huge plot inconsistancies, both between the other films, and within it's own plot, abound. Enormous, glaring, ugly plot holes. A flat script and bad acting don't help. I had zero emotional attactment to any of the characters, except for Weyland, and that was simply carry over from Aliens. And that seems to be the sum total of the film. Carry over. "Aliens are cool, Predators are cool, so a movie about them HAS to be cool, regardless of what we do!"

Plot errors aside, the film also is boring. There's precious little action to be found. Considering this is a film about 2 perfect hunters, it's kind of sad that the most movement on the screen is when the pyramid reconfigures.

Avp is truly a film without an audience. It's error ridden enough to drive the faithful to distraction, while it's poor script, bad acting, and lack of action will bore the casual fans. If you can find a copy of the original comic series, read that instead. Otherwise, just watch any of the Alien or Predator movies back to back. It's a much better experience.

Summary: Since Paul Anderson directed...we all loose.
Review: I am a huge fan of the first Predator film, and I think the first two Alien movies were very good, but I am pretty sure that Fox will make this an incredibly stupid movie. Of course it's going to be predictible, and irratating and probubly only viewable once.
I'm one hundred percent sure that that's what Fox wanted, a stupid summer action flick. Fox and Paul Anderson (whom I think is the worst choice to direct this, his movies are only good once, barely, and that's it, .) are singlehandly going to destroy two very good movie franchises. They should have asked John Mcterien, James Cameron or Ridley Scott to direct this movie.
What they should have done was make another Alien movie and another Predator movie and left the AvP franchise to books, comics, games and fans imagination. I'm not saying I won't watch it, I will, I'm just saying I'm sure I'll leave the theater very disappointed. Fans have always wondered what a battle between Aliens and Predator would have looked like, and wee all know that what we see is going to fall short of what we imagined.
We can all kid ourselves and hope it's going to be good, but let's face it this is just eye candy and an attempt to get money for Fox. This movie will probubly end up like Freddy versus Jason, forgotten very soon. I feel very bad that two excellent sci-fi films, that made you think, have been reduced to this.
I know most of you are saying, "what the hell does he know? he hasn't even seen the movie!", but I have read the novelisation and gobbled up any rumors and spoilers I could find, and I was incredibly disaapointed by what I read.I really, really hope I'm proven wrong by the film, and that come August 13 I have to write a follow up review apologizing about how wrong I was. But everything seems to say that I won't need too.
Well at least we have the Alien quadrology (sp.) and the Predator special edition DVD.

Summary: Hope it's good....
Review: I love all of the alien and predator films, So I'm incredibly excited. This movie comes out on my birthday so I'm really phsyced( Don't know if i spelled it right). But I heard that the director also directed Resident Evil which was kinda a let down... But i personally think that people that like the Alien and Predator movies are still gonna love it. I hope it doesn't fall into crap like Freddy vs Jason but also i know for a fact people love these characters alot more than 2 mediocre( but still cool) horror killers. Im just hoping for the best. But please if you are gonna see this movie watch all 4 Aliens and 2 Predators!!!! They are all good in my opinion. August 13, 2004

Summary: Entertaining and not as bad as some people say
Review: I read some of the reviews, a lot don't make since, like the guy complaining about the cannons being inside the piramyd instead of with the predators, remember the pyramid is a training tool, the predators have to get their cannons in order for the hunt to start, when the humans got to them first, and let the aliens out the predators were at a disadvantage that they were never suppost to be in. the only thing that I didn't like was how bad the first two predators were, compared to the third which seem to be on a different level as far as his fighting skills. yes this movie would have been better if it was rated r, and I'm sure when the directors cut comes out it will deliver what it's missing, but overall the movie does have a good entertainment value.

Summary: Not Bad, not bad at all!
Review: I saw this movie twice, I liked most of what I saw, there were somethings that I did not like in Alien vs. Predator, one of them being how the quickly and how the first 2 predators were killed in this movie, and the second is how cheazy looking the predators shoulder cannons looked. Other than that the movies was spectacular, strange but still a good movie regardless. I have been a fan of both the Aliens and Predator franchises since I was 10 and I have to say that this alien vs. predator movie has been long overdue.

Summary: The battle of the millinium it is not
Review: I went into "Alien vs. Predator" with fairly low expectations. I was pleasently suprised with how well the final product turned out. After "Freddy vs. Jason", I guess they thought the next natural pairing was these two, and they were right. After all, there are numorous novels and comic books on the subject. The plot is that in a few years the Weyland Corperation funds an expidition into the frozen South Pole to investigate a strange archaeological find. The team is your standard stereotypes, but you aren't paying for the humans. Well, Lance Henrikson plays a decent nice guy; a real departure from the usual demented characters he usually plays. I liked the back story of how the aliens and Predators have co-existed in the far distant past, I thought it was very plausable, under the circumstances. I also liked the maze set the characters were being chased through. That was a neat idea. The final battle was ok, I guess. I was expecting more, I don't know, epic. Certainly more graphic. Why why WHY was a movie based on two R rated series brought in at PG-13? well, I know it was to get the most people possible into the theater. But for us gore hounds it was a travesty. I also didn't like the human Predator partners at the end. I thought that was sort of sappy. Well, I guess it could have worse.

Summary: Happy...BUT...
Review: I've been reading Aliens, Predator, & AvP comics for years so I was very happy to see the cross-over story come alive on the silver screen. However, I was disappointed by the PG-13 rating and relative shortness of the film.

For the reviewers who didn't understand the storyline, you may want to pick up some of the predator paperback books available on Amazon. Many of the details from the AvP film were based on concepts/events taken from those books.

But about the movie and its story...I think it was good and did both "species" justice. Sure, the alien gestation period was shortened...from days to minutes/hours. That was kinda hard for me to accept...but ok fine.

What disappointed me most about this movie was that death/kill/fight scenes were all PG-13 instead of R-rated and that the AvP slugfest was so short. While in my opinion it totally kicked a#$, it was just too short and they didn't really "get down" again until the climactic queen battle.

All the Alien and Predator movies were rated R. I'm not asking for a gorefest...or excessive foul language. I'm just asking for consistency. The language was fine for me. But I would like to have seen as much in the fight/death/kill/face-hugger attaching scenes in this cross-over film as we have come to see know and love from the other films.

AvP is part of my DVD collection and I'm happy to have it and will enjoy wearing out the DVD...however...I hope that any sequels that may come will get back to the Alien/Predator R-Rated roots and keep it hard and harsh. C'mon...we're talking about ALIENS and PREDATOR?! There is NOTHING that is PG-13 about those guys!

Summary: A Great Popcorn Movie!
Review: If you're looking for the mindless violence and gore of the video game, DON'T get this movie. But if you're looking for a solid Sci-Fi plot featuring two of the best creature creations put on the screen, with an intelligent plot and hang-on-the-edge-of-your-seat suspense, this is the movie for you. I'm not going into the story, I don't want to spoil your fun. But you will love the action and the adventure. It flows quickly and smartly from the beginning straight through to the end. This movie got panned when it was in the theatres, and I think those who didn't like it just didn't get it. Think of the Preditor as a space-faring Samauri. Think of the Aliens as, well, the aliens you love from all their movies. Think of the people as the arrogant fools people can be, the perfect Alien-bait. Think of the heroine as just that. The result is a bang-up, believable popcorn movie. Watch it over and over again... you'll see something new every time. And it leaves open the great possibility of a sequal. "Hello, Earth? Where's the chick? We need her help..."

Summary: Alien and Predator go PG-13
Review: Let's face it: any movie that pits two of the coolest sci-fi creatures of all time against each other, while killing lots of human beings (completely nessecary mind you) has to be cool, right? Every person (including myself) who saw this movie went into it with that decieving mindset; coming out six bucks in the hole, and none too satisfied. Take the worst of every Alien and Predator movie (i.e. Arnold S./Danny Glover), a watered down plot, horrible acting, and a WHOLE LOTTA CRAP, and blend it all together - and you get this. The vs. part is the hook, the hope of seeing an actual Alien vs. Predator battle is the line, and the movie? The sinker. The humans do not die fast enough! Any movie where lots of humans die trying to stop something a) of no concern to them and b) that is going to ruin their chances of greed - is okay by me. I was waiting for a cameo by Danny Glover telling us veterans of age that we are indeed "too old for this @#$%!" (Lethal Weapon throwback there) However, this review isn't all bad: the Aliens and Predators look tremendous, with awesome detail, and the Predator makes use of that cool weaponary it possesses. This "PG-13" is the training wheels to its "R-rated" predecessors. And if this battle ever turns into a series, pray it finds its way into space...where all franchises go to die.
