Hitler Dead Or Alive

Summary: Very entertaining, but strictly for laughs!
Review: This little-known b-movie gem from 1942 stars Ward Bond as Steve Mascchik, an experienced criminal and tough guy who's released from Alcatrez along with two other gangsters. Why? Simple. They are given the tough assignment of assasinating Adolf Hitler, and if they're successful they get their freedom plus $1,000,000! They join the Canadian Air Force, fly a bomber over Germany, and parachute only a few miles from Hitler's HQ in Berlin. They team up with the anti-Nazi underground and are able to get very close to Hitler. Meanwhile, the Germans have a few surprises of their own, but I won't give away the ending. As unrealistic and unbelievable as the plot is, this is a very entertaining piece of World War Two patriotism and propaganda that classic war movie fans should enjoy. It's also a rare starring role and good change of pace for Ward Bond, who's most famous for his great supporting roles in westerns.
