Review: A: 2/5 Stars Unless you are a superhero buff I wouldn't reccommend this movie to anyone.
Long + Predictable = Boring. That's exactly what this movie was. Sure, the action scenes were loud and big, but they are neither believable or original, and all they did was keep me awake.
I would tell you the ending and all that, but I want you to see how sadly predictable this movie is. Or maybe you should just not waste any time or money on it. J: 2/5 Stars spider-man is a comic book hero movie with a sadly undeveloped story and pointlessly cartoonish action sequences. it is the kind that begs to be considered good but falls below average. the story is about a teen outcast who receives "special powers" from a genetically enhanced spider on a field trip to a science lab. this leads to a bunch of computer animated action scenes where the hero tests out his new abilities. The problem with these scenes is that they are more fake and inexplicable than real and at least somewhat believable. they are loud and flashy and serve as eye candy for the blind. the story is the standard version of the comic and does nothing special to surpass it's expectations (Although i liked the sweetness in the relationship with the boy and his grandfather). after a sudden tragedy, spidey realizes that he should use his superhuman abilities for good.this leads to the meeting of harry osborne who is also mutated into the green goblin, one of the series most infamous villains. their final confrontation is staged to be suspenseful but is anything but.
the movie's lesson:with great power comes great responsibility. sam raimi(who is not a stranger to superhero films with Darkman) seems to have slapped the movie together and goes for the wrong vibe by putting in too many stupid action scenes instead of developing the characters and the story/plot. the actors do the best they can with what they have been given but the movie falls too short. spider-man is an unenternaining slog through cartoonish action sequences and a thin story.

Summary: Does whatever a spider can........
Review: PROS- Entertaining comic book adaptation with excellent action sequences sure to provide some visceral enjoyment. Maguire does a good job as arachnid boy and surprisingly plays the stud aspect of Peter Parker well (and unsuprisingly plays the dorky part well too.) There are some other strong performances as well and Dafoe is excellent as the over the top Green Goblin (his sufboard is cool!) The old man who plays Gramps brought a tear to my eye! Raimi does a good job of giving the comic book aura to the movie and props to him for staying real to the comic book. CONS- the movie can be a bit uneven at time and keeps going for about 15 minutes too long. The final funeral scene was sooooo painfull. Unfortunately Franco comes from the Hayden Christensen school of acting. Bottom Line: you have been living in a cave if you don't know what to expect with this one.

Review: Actually I feel sorry for all those people chasing after vintage comics and memorbilia. It won't take to long for the bottom of this franchise to fall apart and people receiving that garbage go broke at its small value. Now for my review. The special effects were ok though I expected a little bit more. The actors for Spiderman and co were lousy. In fact the movie is sort based on the comic book with important details left out at a fast pace. The villian, Ha! As if you call it a villian! The Green Goblin was introduced in such a silly way only those who've read the comicbook knows whats going on. Others who watched this movie out of the blue will be clueless on who is who. Anyway believe it or not when I saw this at the theater with my diehard Spiderman fan stepdad several people of all ages including us were laughing at the Green Goblin's first appearance to the big screen. My God he looked like a Power Ranger gone bad. Or better yet a lifesize reject of a Toy Story villian. And that mask! It's look like someone dug it out the dumpster across the street a week after Halloween to be used for the film. You can even see Osbourne's lips showing from the fake plastic gaping mouth. (Doesn't anyone else agree?) Throughout the movie whenever the G.G showed up on a suped up surf board (probbably swiped it from Lara Croft's (Tomb Raider) broom closet) and zooming around in the air and screeching out diologe that would come from middle schoolers during a routeen game of "Capture The Flag" that same group of people that kept growing larger by each G.G sequences were snickering and laughed while trying to avoid junkfood being thrown at us by overhead viewers obviously annoyed at the movie and decides to take their wrath out on us. Anyway at the last G.G scene at least ten people loose it and rush to the bathroom. For my opinion "Greeny" should be considered the stupidest looking villian ever. A guy dressed as the Riddler wearing a pink tu-tu would get better ratings As for Spiderman himself. they could've done a lot more better with the actor, scenes, etc. So I've heard that a second one is coming out and talk of third one is floating around. Great I get to see son of Green Goblin or whatever faceoff with a "Human Spider" I rated this movie two stars cause Randy "Macho Man" Savage makes an appearance!

Summary: Actually, It was pretty Cool
Review: I never saw this movie in the theatre, and I never rented it until usterday. Truth be told, I thought it would be stupid, nothing but a bunch of hype. But I did rent, and I sat down and watched it, and when it was over, I said, "Wow! That was pretty cool!" The special effects were cool, and it was well directed. The acting was pretty good, and they didn't kill the plot from the comic books. The story, which probably everyone know, is a high schooler who is about to graduate, get bit by a geneticly engineered "super spider". The super spider's powers are transferred into Peter Parker. So, over night, he turns from a weak geek, into a strong man. He doesn't need his glasses anymore, either. Bit by bit he descovers his powers, climbing on walls, jumping really far, extra strong, shooting webs, and sensing danger. So he creates a ... costume, and goes wrestling for three minutes for 3000 dollars. But the guy only gives him a hundred because he pinned him in two, not three. Then a robber comes and steals the money and Peter lets him go. Then later, his Uncle Ben is shot by the same robber, so he devotes himself to fighting crime, and also he got a cool costume. Meanwhile, Norman Osborn, a scientist takes a human body enhancer that is suposed to increase strength by 800%. But the enhancer isn't ready, and he suffers from the side effects, anger, aggression, and insanity. So he has kind of a split personality, one good, one bad. So he steals a high tech glider and creates a costume and becomes the Green Goblin. At the end Spider-Man and the Green Goblin have a show down, which is pretty cool. So all in all, it is a pretty cool action movie, with cool special effects, and they didn't ruin this movie, like they did with Daredevil, which was really stupid. So as comic book movies go, this is at the top with X-Men. So if you haven't seen it, and you think it will be stupid, go give it a try, actually, it was pretty cool.

Summary: The best comic to film adaptation in a while
Review: Just when you thought movies based on comic books were preordained to suck, along comes Spider-Man. Helmed by one of my favorite directors in Sam Raimi(whom also wrote and directed the Evil Dead films; check them out), Spider-Man makes for a great movie. Tobey Maguire is genius casting. In the lead role, Maguire lets you empathize and sympathize with Peter Parker, which is missing from many other comic-based films. Willem Dafoe chews up the scenery as Norman Osborn AKA the Green Goblin. He makes for a great adversary. Stuck in the middle are Kirston Dunst(Mary Jane, the main girl in Peter's life) and James Franco(Harry Osborn, son of Norman and Peter's best friend), both of whom provide great supporting parts. What makes Spider-Man succeed, is that the script(Well written by David Koepp) and Raimi's touch take the time to develop the characters and make you actually care about them. (Not too many comic-movies can make that claim) They're layered, so that when they cry, you cry with them. Not that this film is nothing but sappy, there's plenty of action to satisfy popcorn nuts. Some may complain that CGI Spider-Man doesn't look real, but I thought it looked just fine. Everything about this movie is top-notch, and there's only more to love with the DVD, considering the huge load of extras. If you're not a Spidey fan going in, you will be coming out.

Summary: Spider-Man, Spider-Man, doin' the things a spider can...
Review: Let me start off by saying that Spider-Man was/is my all-time favorite comic book superhero. I was actually infuriated when I saw the first teaser trailer back in early 2001. Why? Because I didn't think I could bear to see the mutilation of another comic hero, ala Batman and Superman. When it came out, I saw it with much hesitation.
I was not disappointed at all. Probably the most faithful comic book to movie adaptation out there, and one of the best action/adventure movies that has graced the silver screen. One of the reasons this movie has such a wide appeal, is that Spider-Man is the most human of all superheroes. He's plagued by the same obstacles in life that we all are. Peter Parker is a nerd in high school, broken family, loves a girl that is (or seems to be) unattainable. He struggles to fit in just like the rest of us do. He's human, and uses all his resources unselfishly in trying to help others.
And this is why Spider-Man does and will succeed as a movie franchise. If they stick to the comic books, Peter has some of his greatest challenges ahead. He struggles to win the affections of Mary-Jane (even though she knows who he REALLY is,) problems at work, struggles to find a job and make ends meet, not to mention some of Spider-Man's greatest villians and battles lie ahead (which eventually destroy his marriage to Mary Jane.) Look forward to Doctor Octopus, the return of Goblin, and my personal fave- Venom!
Here's to hoping that our favorite Web-Head will enjoy a long and entertaining movie career.

Summary: The best superhero movie ever made!
Review: This movie was amazing (No wonder it made more than 400 million in the box office). This movie gave Batman, Daredevil, and even X-Men a run for there money. And it definitely will be better than the Hulk. Anyways, the acting in this was wonderfully done (Expecially Tobey Maguire). This movie is amazing and if you haven't seen it then you definitely need to. I can't wait for Spider-man 2!

Summary: Stuck in a webby mess
Review: Overrated adaptation of the Spider-Man comics in which almost every aspect feels forced and stiff throughout, from the direction to the writing, editing, and acting. I almost bought the DVD without first seeing it because I always liked Spider-Man as a kid and had heard so many good reviews about it. I am so glad that a friend lent it to me so I could see it wasn't worth it. Wish I could get the time I wasted watching this overhyped and overrated film back! I sure hope the sequel isn't this flawed. Also, this is the only DVD ever to completely freeze up in my Toshiba DVD player part way through (out of well over 100 discs I've played in it). I had to finish watching the DVD on my computer.

Summary: Its ok...
Review: To tell the truth, I really expected a lot more out of this movie. When I first saw it, I liked it, but after I thought about it, this movie wasn't as good as people made it out to be. I still look forward to Spider-Man 2, but I hope that it delivers more than this one did.
