Summary: Princess Bride DVD a Disappointment
Review: Years into the DVD revolution, it's disappointing that a studio would release such a poor product. The digital transfer was, at best, below average. The print which was transferred shows its age and it appears that no attempt to find one with vibrant colors was made. For several minutes I thought I was watching a Chinese import. Also disappointing is the lack of a director commentary, behind the scenes material, or even cast information. THIS IS A SPARTAN, CHEAP PRODUCT! Save your money, for now, until a better version comes along.

Summary: Timeless Classic; Something for Everyone
Review: I have not seen mention of Mark Knopfler's wonderful score for this movie. I support all the other superlatives for this movie but I want to give extra support for the great sound track. Knopfler's virtuoso lilting guitar somehow melds perfectly with this story. I can't imagine the movie scored by anybody else. This collaboration is easily as good as the Tim Burton/Danny Elfman collaborations.

Summary: This will never become old, but will always be a classic.
Review: This movie combines so many things and puts a wonderful comedic and modern touch upon them. An excellent story and a wonderful cast make this movie very enjoyable to watch. Plus it's something that kids and adults can watch and enjoy. On one hand, this movie is a very involving fantasy filled with wonderful characters. There are so many characters, who have many different, funny, and sometimes touching personalities, that bring us into the movie. It is hard not to care about them. The fantastical scenery is also beautiful, so beautiful and realistic in fact that it actually becomes one of the characters in the story. This movie also combines true friendship, a touching love story that is actually BELIEVABLE, with gut wrenching comedy that will have you laughing very hard. It is rare that a movie can make us laugh so hard and make us say "awwwwww" and still be believable. Anyone who likes comedy, love stories, or has any imagination will LOVE this movie. A true classic. Most Highly Reccomended.

Summary: A Classic of our Time
Review: I spent a week in Canada once. (seriously, this is related to the movie!) While there, I stayed with a gang of people who prided themselves on being consummate movie-watchers. When another fellow and myself began to remark about The Princess Bride, our host for the evening asked, "The Princess Who?" And we all got quiet there on the Group-W bench... We rented and viewed it that very evening, and that's when I came to realize that this flick is one of those rare, truly inspired works that stays with you forever. I can quote, "Inconceivable!" in any conversation, and expect nothing less that resounding laughter and appreciation for a fine film. Watch it, own it, pass it on to your children.

Summary: Fantastic movie...watch out for the DVD though
Review: I don't think I can add much more words to what has already been said by everyone else about this movie. Simply a fantastic classic fantasy love story with a superb cast and excellent script. What I wanted to say was that be careful before buying this DVD as special edition is in the works which should contain tons of extras, something this one is obviously lacking.

Review: Like the rest of the reviewers, I loved the movie and the book it was based on. But why is the DVD being released with a MONO soundtrack? That is totally WRONG! :( I'm going to wait for the "special edition"...

Summary: One of the best classic movies ever!
Review: I love this movie, and I remember I used to watch it when I was little. I swear, this and Willow are the best medieval fairy-tale movies that have ever been made. This is one of the those movies that when you start watchign it, you can't stop. The story catches you from the beginning and brings you along for the ride. The love plot of the storyline is traditional and been done before, but the movie remains excellent. That's all I have to say, and R.I.P. to Andre the Giant.

Summary: The Princess Bride DVD
Review: If your a princess bride fan you have to get the dvd. Seeing the movie in wide screen is a real treat. You can really tell that mandy potimpkin it a card board cut out in a particular scene on the dvd. The colors are so much richer on the dvd and the sound is wonderful. When your in the fire swamp the digital audio really puts a bit of fear in you. Amazon may say this is for the vhs version but let it be known I already own the DVD version. It is a must buy!

Summary: Absolutely marvelous -- but for one little flaw...
Review: The only reason I did not give this edition five stars is because of MGM. Starting somewhere between "Eye of the Needle" and "Spaceballs", the studio suddenly decided to leave out menu-selectable English subtitles/captions on their DVDs, which to me is an absolutely essential feature. Without it I'm not able to enjoy the DVD as much, and I really wish MGM would go back to including them for all future releases (it's not exactly taking up a lot of disk space, nor is it demanding lots of resources, and there are meny viewers who depend on them). I sincerely hope MGM will listen to its consumers and include English subtitles on the special edition of "The Princess Bride", which is due within the year!
