Summary: Don't let the Title fool you
Review: The Princess Bride is not a chick flick, or a kiddy movie. It is one of the most complex films ever made. While containing all the elements of classical fantasy, fairy-tail, and folklore, it can also boast shining satire. It is part spoof on erro flyn, and part statement on modern culture, and part serious expression of what faithfullness should be. An english proffessor could have a field day analyzing this movie from a million different perspectives and never run short on material. The Princess Bride is a different story every time you watch, in conjunction with the moods and attitudes you harbor when you sit down. Enjoy.

Summary: One of the most quotable movies ever!
Review: "I am Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die." Inconceivable." Just a few of the lines that have become staple quotes and one-liners in the English language. I first saw this movie when I was 7, and thought that it was a legit love story. I saw it again when I was 13, and though of it as just a funny farce in the tradition of Mel Brooks. And I watched it again last week, and realized that it is a combination, of booth an adventure/love saga, and a parody of that genre. Although it leans towards the latter, it is still one of the most complete and successfully constructed movies ever. No matter how many times I see André the giant hauling Inigo, and the Princess up the cliff, with Wallace Shawn staring at him telling him to hurry up, I break out into uncontrollable laughter. I recommend this movie to anyone and everyone.

Review: This is a great movie, good heros, well acted villans, funny characters, and a billion laughs and cheers. This movie Has some intense scenes in it, not the best for younger children. One bad word at the end, but a real GREAT movie, I hold it highly! Enjoy.

Summary: Finally- a movie that REALLY is for the whole family!
Review: It starts out in the house the same as in the movie- vague disinterest by the child who'd rather be playing video games or ANYTHING else, slowly though, a little bit of interest is gained. First the 7 year old enthralled by the beautiful Buttercup and dashing Wesley and the whole thought of "True Love", next the 9 year old on his way to the gameboy upstairs hears the sounds of shrieking eels and is clenched by Andre the Giant (if it's good enough for a professional wrestler....), the 13 year old comes in for a moment to mock us wondering why we would watch~ oooh, are those R.O.U.S.'s going to kill them? Is the prince good or bad? And so it goes, on through the albino, the torture chamber, Miracle Max (my favorite part)- discussions commence over whether or not someone can really be "mostly dead" and what is a "brute squad" and who will the Dread Pirate Roberts be now....... and of course, by this point in the movie, the room is layered with sprawled out children who, for an hour or two at least, have forgotten that they have better things to do. Now THAT'S movie magic!

Review: That's right! I love this movie. Everybody I know loves this movie. If you want to give a friend a gift, then give them this movie.Princess Bride is bright and funny. Good clean movie watching for all ages. Want to watch a movie with your parents (this is it!). Buy this movie if you want to smile and giggle!

Summary: why do they do this to great films?
Review: The whole purpose of the DVD format is that you can see the film as it was meant to be seen, and also have access to extra feature gems. When they add those, I am only happy to pay 2-3 times what a VHS costs. I have refrained from buying this DVD because of the comments posted here. Is there any official word on whether MGM is releasing a special edition version? I've already waited years to own this film, and can wait longer, if need be. Classics, particularly cult classics like this, have legions of fans who are willing to sit through several hours of what some might consider mind-numbing minutiae. I'm one of those nerds. MGM did wonders with the James Bond series. If anyone has comfirmation that they'll do the same with the Princess Bride, I'd love to hear about it!

Summary: Been my favorite for years...
Review: Okay, I am extremely biased on this movie. It has been one of my all time favorites since I was about 7 years old (I'm 15 now). I watched it all the time...I still do. I'm in love with it! It is the perfect fantasy movie. A beautiful princess, a dashing but mysterious man, and the evil villians who try to keep them apart. The film, as I understand now, is a favorite amongst many people throughout the country. With it's quirky characters and dialouge (many memorable lines!) and the endless fantasy adventure, how could you not love it? The great scenes on the Cliffs of Insanity and in the Fire Swamp are ones that anyone can enjoy, young or old. It is just a perfect story with the good guys fighting the bad guys and their unforgettable adventures on the way. A very sweet love story with two beautiful people who are just trying to be together and the friends they make along the way. You won't forget Inigo Montoya, Buttercup, Wesley, Fezzik, Vizzini, Count Reugen, or even the Albino and Miracle Max!! Funny unstoppable characters that will become your favorites. As Mary Poppins would say, this movie is "practically perfect in every way."

Review: i saw this last night and it blew me out of the water, i immeditaly loved it, loved it, love it, Loveeeeeeeeeeeed it! i am a lover of those 80's fantasies ( Dark Crystal, Legend, ETC) and this is a good purchase for those who enjoy fantasies.

Summary: ENCHANTING
Review: William Goldman's tilted, off-center take on the classic fairy-tale love-story is brought to perfect life on film in this enchanting movie by Rob Reiner. Framed by the wonderful Peter Falk and a young Fred Savage as Grandpa and grandson in a tug-of-war bedtime story set-up, the movie unfolds with the same spontaneous, surprising twists as exist in the book. Moral lessons are deftly woven into the charming, very funny and visually beautiful love story/adventure tale. All of the performers are wonderful, but special kudos go to Robin Wright, who is simply dazzling as Buttercup, and to Mandy Pantinkin, who displays his dazzling theatricality and physical humor as a slightly dim but full-blooded Spaniard seeking revenge. The special effects have a purposely quaint and lovely quality, and serve the tone and look of the movie perfectly. This film is an excellent family film, and one you can watch over and over again, and find something new, magical and life-affirming with each viewing.

Review: A screen adaptation of William Goldman's 1973 novel, this is a movie for everyone. A little boy (Fred Savage) is in bed with a cold, and his grandfather (Peter Falk) comes over to read him The Princess Bride. The boy sighs, "I'll try to stay awake," but soon surprises himself as the story -- miracles, revenge and true love -- unfolds. There is some violence and a little bit of blood, but very little and none of it is gratuitous. The characters trade terrific insults, but there is no profanity. There is no nudity or intimate contact beyond kissing. Parents can sit next to their kids without squirming. I do, however, have some criticisms about the DVD's quality. The video transfer (widescreen and standard versions are offered) is noticeably better than that of the VHS or laser disc versions, but a definite notch below that of the best DVDs. The audio quality is also noticeably better than that of prior versions, thanks to the Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. (Amazon incorrectly states that the soundtrack is Dolby Digital 2.0.) But very little use is made of the rear surround channels, and the LFE track is weak. As for extras, there is only the theatrical trailer. Don't bother. The video quality is terrible, and the Dolby Digital 2.0 audio is not much better. If not for the technical flaws, this would be a five-star DVD. Even with the flaws, however, it is well worth the price. Gather the family and the popcorn.
