Summary: "I want forged documents to China."
Review: I have to admit that Chow Yun-Fat's American debut was a step down from his usual self. The action sequences were nice, especially the finale, and Mira Sorvino was great as a hard-nosed bitch, but there was something missing in this one. If you want to see Chow Yun-Fat back in top form, go see The Corruptor.

Summary: Chow Yun Fat deserves much better
Review: I've been a big fan of Chow Yun Fat for a long time now. He has always been charismatic on the screen. The biggest disapointment of this movie is his lack of presence. He pulls off a sad Clint Eastwood imitation with alot of scowling and few lines. The gun fire is the typical Hollywood take on Hong Kong action films. They get the exploding glass and splintered wood down pat but something seems lacking. Bullets fly every where to no effect. It was alot like an episode of the A-Team. It was a beautifully shot film. The cars gleamed like an ad for car wax and the streets glistened with that Blade Runner shine but it was a shallow coat of glitter over a thin retread of an action movie. The only redeeming factor was Mira Sorvino's character. She played a strong female lead without falling back on the tough talking girl who in reality needs the man to save her. I thought her character was a nice touch. Micheal Rooker's tough guy police character on the other hand was almost non-exsistent. All in all, for a better Chow Yun Fat movie (US) check out The Corruptor. Or better still get The Killers or Hard Boiled.

Summary: Yawn!
Review: How un-exciting can this story get? Let's see, an assassin who refuses to kill gets a price on his head. The level of energy in the action sequences, Chow Yun Fat's characteristic intensity, and an original script are lacking in his first U.S. film.

I would recommend Chow Yun Fat's other films: City on Fire, God of Gamblers, A Better Tommorrow, Hard Boiled, Once a Thief, The Corrupter and others.

Summary: Can't get enough!
Review: Loved this movie. I have watched it serveral times and with each viewing I am impressed by the details in every shot. This seemingly simple film is like a very finely crafted painting with details that are only obvious after repeated looks. My only regret is that I could not find the widescreen version of this movie for VHS.

Summary: one hell uva action flick....amazing action sequences
Review: the replacement killers is chow yun fats first american film and he sure chose one hell of a flick to start with. He stars as john lee and is a hired assasin, asked to do 3 tasks for a mob lord, when the third task is killing a 10 year boy john refuses and the action ensues. Mira sorvino stars as a forger who he goes to to get a passport and of course, gets her involved. The story was excellent and the performances by chow and mira are excellent, the action sequences are almost like a ballet, one might say gracefully done. great action and great performances..in other words...GREAT MOVIE.
