Summary: Cyborg - one of Van Damme's best ever!
Review: As an Amazon customer from England, I was anxious to get hold of this DVD. The version of Cyborg we have in the UK is very heavily cut - almost 10 minutes shorter in fact. It was a thrill to watch this full version of such a classic Van Damme hit. The action sequences are still the best he has done so far.

The quality of the DVD transfer is also very good. If you like action and martial arts, get this movie ASAP!

Summary: THE CRITICS ARE NOT A RELIABLE SOURCE.
Review: What they need to do is start getting critics who go more by what people like. Not those who judge movies by how much flaws it has. What the hell is the point of even letting these people publish their meaningless opinions if so much more people would disagree with them. Guide, my a**.Cyborg is an excellent movie. One thing I like about the movie is the ruthless Fender. It was kind of messed up when those people were getting married and Fender and his maruaders killed the newly weds with no intention of giving them mercy however, I think that was an interesting part because it emphasized the fact that Fender is RUTHLESS. This is one of the only movies I have ever seen where the main villian is truely careless about the lives of his foes. Excellent! The only thing I wish was different was Van Damme's fighting style in movies. In the past, I thought they were great but, that was before I started seeing martial arts movies with faster and more active fight scenes. Still, it's pretty cool that they sometimes put some moves in slow motion. Overall, this was a great movie with a good enough storyline. Yes it does have a few gaps but if they would have tried to fill those gaps it probably would have made the movie really as bad as Leonard Milton said it is.

Summary: Come on, Give him a break
Review: I know most Van Damme movies suck, but this one is great. There is little talking which helps. The action and fights are excellent. All the bad guys look cool. As for a story, it's simple. He needs to save the world, bad guys come, he fights them until show down with head bad guy. But enough of that. This movie is simply very good. Nuts to Leonard Maltin!!!

Summary: FENDOR WAS THE BEST BAD GUY!
Review: I loved this movie. Easily one of my favorites ever. Fendor was just the most mysterious, and formidable bad guy (him and Darth Vader) I have ever seen in a movie. The character really did emanate an aura of fear.. and the actor playing Fendor did such a splendid job that he gave the feeling that nobody can stop him... The fight scenes are among the best I have ever seen. Gibson's martial art moves were awesome. The final battle between Gibson and Fendor was historic. This is the way a battle between the protagonist and antagonist should be.. Long, suspenseful, bloody, and close...

In addition, I loved the EERINESS to the movie. It left you feeling strange after you watched it. This was definitely a sign it was a great movie... At least for me, I felt odd afterwards since it was soooo well done that you felt the fear that Fendor and his pirates induced.. Great movie.

The only minor thing I found illogical about the movie was how was Gibson and his friend able to WALK ALL THE WAY from NYC to Atlanta and catch Fendor on boat? Just food for thought of something I found strange with the movie but did nothing to change my overall opinion about it.

Lastly, I agree.. Do not listen to the critics. There are a lot of movies the critics say are great but I would disagree greatly... (But I will not get into that.) A caveat, however, the violence is definitely not for kids!

Summary: Cyborg is outstanding - do not listen to the critics!!
Review: This is a wonderful movie; certainly not for kids, but siblime science noir, adult fare. It creates a futuristic environment populated by believable, if reprehensible, charactors. Van Damme is supurb! Not cerebral, but secure in the constancy of a wonderful character.

Summary: Scary future indeed! An underrated classic.
Review: As far as JCVD movies are concerned this is terrific, and anyone expecting Schindlers List stay clear. I will recommend this movie to people who are fans of movies like Soldier (Kurt Russell) and even the other Albert Pyun movie Nemesis. Hey, i would go as far as saying that this film shares many qualities as Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. They both take the cake for having the best villians in the history of cinema, Fender and Vernon Wells. This movie really is a guilty pleasure and also contains many disturbing scenes and religious undertones predominant in the sci-fi genre; such as Blade Runner, but it also manages to understand clearly what kind of movie it is trying to be - a gritty and scary martial arts flick! I'll back this film up and also the underrated Christopher Lambert flick Fortress till the day I die. Just don't expect an intellectual martial arts film, I even doubt if there are many, except for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and The Matrix and any other that takes itself too seriously. Just expect a good old fashioned B-Movie to watch with a couple mates and a 6 pack of beer with some intelligent (arguable) ideas padded throughout. The DVD is worth purchasing, as it features an interesting 8 page booklet, a fine non-anamorphic widescreen transfer with occasional grain, but rather clean and sharp with vivid colours. The dolby surround is a little dissapointing but still throws a lot of sound into the rear speakers. This works wonders with the terrific music score! Long live JCVD. A truly underrated star who has a deserved cult following. I know he's not the best actor on the planet, but his films have a cheesy charm all the same. I liken him to Keanu Reeves, a man who can't act well, but is damn entertaining nonetheless.

Summary: an example of what a Live Action Anime could be like....
Review: If done horribly wrong. Cyborg whether the creators realized it or not has a strong Anime feel to it. Sadly the movie is complete and total garbage.

The story here is that Jean Claude Van Damm plays a warrior in the future who is out to get revenge on the leader of a gang in the Anarchist future. There also happens to be a deadly disease plaguing Mankind, and a Cyborg knows the cure. That part of the story is irrelivant. For the most part it is Van Damm traveling across the US attempting to catch up to this Madman and stop him. Somewhere in the movie we get flashbacks of his past and at one point he gets the chance to bang his female companion. OVerall this movie is a waste and you can tell Orion Entertainment was Milking Van Damm for all he was worth at this time. Avoid.

Summary: Launched a career, destroyed another...
Review: Cyborg, along with Bloodsport are the two films that launched Van Dame's career. Didn't matter that Van Damn lied about being a world martial arts champion, or that he blinded a fellow cast mate in Cyborg during that sword/rain scene. He was sued over this too... Cyborg is a very good low budget sci-fi film.

Summary: A look into the life of a cyborg
Review: This movie is a keen look into what happens when the earth becomes ridden with strange plagues and murderous thieves that for some reason love to sport chainmail. The main plot is that some bionic cyborg chick has to get this cure to atlanta to save the world from the plague. She about gets ruined by a chainmail sporting murderous thief named fender and his merry henchmen. She only about gets ruined because Van Damme comes and saves her. Van Damme in this movie wields a sword which is pretty cool considering it's the future and they should have phasers or spazers or lazers or something to the effect. Old school just works best sometimes. So they get away and then van damn starts having all these punisher like(the comic not that god awful movie) flashbacks where a gang kills his family. The gang just happens to be fender the chainmail sporting murderous thiefs gang which is also the gang that was curently pursueing them. How ironic! So later they meet up with this hot chick who you see naked when she gos to bath in the ocean. Wowzers!!!! Van Damme gets all close with her and stuff and then he gets crucified and finds his daughter is in fender the chainmail sporting murderous thiefs gang. So Van Damme gets all determined and go's and gets all strong and go's to fight fender the chainmail sporting murderous thief. What happens then?!?!? You'll have to watch to find out. I am a cyborg so I really appriciate this flick. It's a good view into the life of your everyday bionic cyborg. Ah...how I miss the days when I was human.
