Rating: Summary: classic "guy movie" Review: My father rented this movie when it first hit video about thirteen years ago and him and I just laughed and had a great time watching it. Since then I have seen it dozens of times and I still think that this is one of the best "guy movies" ever made. I mean, how can you not like a movie where Kurt Russel asks if a bunch of Chinese warriors savy English and the leader says,"Hey man, who is this guy?" Lines like that make this movie great. Great special f/x, awsome karate scenes, and tons of laughs. Find it, rent it, call the guys and get some suds and have a blast.
Rating: Summary: WOW THIS MOVIE ROCKS ***!!!!!! Review: One of the best movies of all time.......if I were to die and only to take 5 movies with me, this would be 1 of the 5. THERE IS NOT A SINGLE FLAW IN THE WHOLE MOVIE!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: This movie is awesome, Review: This movie is a classic. I love it!! Ive watched it once a day for like 4 straight before. Great movie, me and my friends all agree. 5 STAR!!!!
Rating: Summary: Not Kirt's best film..... Review: ...but it was a funny movie. If you want laughs, chills, and thrills you have to see this movie. Kirt is a down to earth guy in this film, but then it all changes when his friend gets him involved in some out of this world expirments. There were great special efects. It was not Kirt's best roll, but a good one!
Rating: Summary: Not exactly a movie that will go down as a "classic," but - Review: . . . if you are looking for a movie that is a lot of fun, a lot of laughs, and never takes itself too seriously - in fact, not seriously at all - then you'll enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: Big Trouble is BIG laughs Review: Kurt Russell is the only actor I know who could pull this off-he's the best part of the movie. The special efforts are pretty good and so are the supporting actors but Russell is the one who makes this movie. This is the kind of movie that you can sit back, relax, and just have a good time.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely fantastic, kick-ass, HILARIOUS Action Flick Review: Not for anyone who insists that ALL action films should be serious. This film is just highly enjoyable eye-candy. Kurt Russell (Token White Guy) is fantastic as the ever-swaggering, slightly inept, action hero/truck driver Jack Burton. Example: everyone screaming, about to do battle, Jack Burton shouting and shooting straight up into the air . . . only to be knocked unconscious by falling chunks of ceiling recently shot off. Get the picture? NO? WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
Rating: Summary: My favorite John Carpenter film Review: Boy, what can you say about John Carpenter? He's done so many different films of different genres it's hard to recognize his work. Critics (not me) seem to think that he takes the least intriguing idea and makes them into a good film such as Halloween (a killer on the loose) and Assault on Precinct 13 (an attack on a police station), and takes the most intriguing ideas and turns them into a range of bad to just above average films such as Christine (a car that's alive), The Thing (an alien that can shapeshift), Escape From New York and Escape From L.A. (cities turned into gargantuan prisons), Prince of Darkness (Satan ready to take over the world with his father), They Live (through special sunglasses a man discovers a good portion of humanity are actually aliens), In the Mouth of Madness (an author's books are coming to life), Village of the Damned (A bunch of women become pregnant on a day where everybody was mysteriously knocked unconscious), and Vampires (a group of vampire hunters chase after a powerful vampire who is in search of a cross that will grant all vampires the ability to walk in daylight). The truth is, I consider the best John Carpenter films to be the ones I listed in the intriguing idea category. The one that I didn't mention in there was Big Trouble In Little China. This film also has a wacky and weird plot about a Chinese magician trying to raise three demi-gods. It's a good thing Carpenter made this an action-comedy, because if it was anything other than that the film would have failed. Anyway, let's just say that this idea was executed just fine and the film's payoff is just as good as the setup. You have the hilarious hero, the menacing villain, great action scenes, laugh-out loud comedy, and special effects that would make most other horror director's film's f/x look like Plan 9 From Outer Space. If there is one film to watch from John Carpenter, it's Big Trouble in Little China.
Rating: Summary: Not Kurt Russell at his best, but a fun attention-getter.... Review: (1986) Campy, comic sci-fi/action bit about arrogant truck driver Russell, and his Asian sidekick, who really does all the dirty work. An entertaining John Carpenter film, to say the least, but try not to take it too seriously. Still, though, it is interesting, and has that Carpenter-esque macabre flavor, along with an alarming, rousing electronic soundtrack, which I wished I still had possession of. Not really a John Carpenter favorite of mine, but one of those campy, cult "B" movies you can drink beer to.
Rating: Summary: This is pure fun. Review: This movie never has any pretense of "greatness" which is exactly what makes it so great. There are a lot of movies out there that I really enjoy, but not like this one. I have seen it dozens of times and I am tickled every single time I see it. It was on FXMovies today and there was no earthly way I could even think of turning the channel until it was over. I think the one thing that pushes this movie over the top for me is that it seems like the cast had a great time making it. If you haven't seen this yet, see it. The ultimate American chop-sockie movie.
