Summary: Mortal Kombat
Review: This movie futures,"like the second" top of the line special effects and a good cast. The plot is exelent,a band of fighters are chossen to compete in a tournoment known as Mortal Kombat to save Earth of Shang Suon and his evel minions. There is great music in it and lots of action, the blood and gore content is a little higher then the sequel,Mortal Kombat Annihilation but it is still at a minimum. Trust me I have watched this movie over and over again and I have not got tired of it yet,Trust me, if you like high action then Mortal Kombat is definatly for you.

Summary: A poorley made film that will give you a headache...
Review: An adaptation of a popular game, but this is a poor film in which every fight scene has some irritating techno music. The f/x are not too bad, but this film is way too corny for me...

Summary: Atmospheric and engrossing, sure to please the fans
Review: Guess what? I would have honestly liked the frenchise better were Kombat spelled with a "C". Nevertheless, like all popular-concept-to-film productions, Mortal Kombat carries that special charm for those who have played the game, but will end up in the closets of those who simply don't like this type of film.

There are three things which give substance to the film: a) the characters - most of them actually made it from the game into the film, and, unlike some other films, actually have viable parts rather than mere cameo appearances; b) special effects - this is Matrix of 1995. I'm being completely frank when I say that the special effects in MK are more pleasing to the eye and less off-the-wall than those in Matrix. The special effects are superb, and, unlike the above-mentioned film, they are incorporated into the rest of the film, and, moreover, they actually make sense; c) the atmosphere - creepy, gloomy, and otherwise fascinating, the atmosphere is perhaps the only aspect of this film that will cause even the most outspoken MK protestant to sit and watch. The views and landscapes are extremely atmospheric, believable, and original, and, unlike most newer films, darkness is used as an intelligent plot device, and, moreover, it is used sparingly, just to prevent the viewer from becoming hopelessly bored;

This is a very, very successfl translation from different media, and, without doubt, will appeal to any fan of martial arts movies (the ones with Jacky Chan and Jean-Claude Van-Damme, not the real ones). Plenty of chop-socky action will certainly offset the realization that the film's plot can be expressed in a single sentense.

Summary: Superb special effects. Nuff said.
Review: Special effects of this movie is unparalleled. The fight scenes are not exactly realistic (especially the part where Reptile is flying out the wall after Liu Kang did that special kick move), but the fight scenes over all are very good, colorful characterization and a good sound track. I was dissapointed in how weak Kano's fighting skills were since he was one of the deadliest characters in the game, but aside from that the movie rocked, with the exception that the plot was extremely weak. Too bad the sequel gave Power Rangers a good name.

Summary: Truly impressive
Review: Come on, we all know the game. Shoa Kahn and Shang Tsung are trying to invade Earth but they can't do so without winning 10 straight victories in the tournament of Mortal Kombat and the lead characters Rayden, Liu Kang, Sonya, and Johnny Cage think they can do it. But they'll have to face the toughest opponents from the first two games: Goro, Sub-Zero, Kano, Scorpion, and Reptile. A little short on characterization but the special effects and action sequences make up for almost every individual short coming nicely. Only for fans of the original games. Tops the prior STREET FIGHTER movie like it doesn't exist.

Summary: A masterpeice of physical combat.
Review: I myself think that the part when Sonya Blade kills Keno is pretty funny. If you watch this movie you will laugh, cry and say " Cool!".

Summary: flawless victory
Review: ''Mortal Kombat'' will never be a karate epic, but it's a great movie considering it was based on a video game. The special effects are fantastic.

Summary: Good Video-Movie Transformation, Nothing Else
Review: This has to be the best based-on-video-game film out there. It's extremely dumb but extremely fun at the same time. Not everyone would enjoy it fully though, only fans of the video game and die-hard action fans would enjoy this. But for martial arts fans who haven't seen this film yet, beware the fight scenes and the fighters in this film are pure-Hollywoodised (on par with Van Damme/Seagal) and it ain't nothing compared to Jet Li/Jackie Chan/Bruce Lee/Gordon Liu 'fu-clasics of HK cinema. But although his fight scenes are crappy, Robin Shou (Liu Kang) has immense talent and should be casted as Forest Law in the Tekken movie.

Summary: Not the best kung fu flick, but still is worth watching.
Review: The first time I seen this movie I thought it was great especially since I compared it to other video-game to movie translations which were horrible and disappointing, but for some reason, it got boring real fast after I watched it for the third time. When I saw it for the first time, I thought I would have to watch it at least 20 times before it even started to get boring because martial arts mixed with science-fiction is my absolute favorite kind of movie. The acting can get a little annoying but it's good enough as far as I'm concerned. The fight scenes was full of action and well choreographed, however the problem I have with the fight cheoreagraphy is that the kombatants didn't seem to show much style. Look at the last and AWSOME fight scene on the movie, "Drive" starring Mark Dacascos and you might understand what I mean if you don't by reading this review. ("Drive" was originally shown on H.B.O.) The biggest problem with "MK:The Movie" is that it, like the video-game, lacks originality. I mean for one thing, the story is a lot like the one from Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon". Think about it: The bad guy is responsible for the death of the main character's sibling. Later, the main character and a couple of friends go to an island, owned by the bad guy, to fight in a tournement and so on. The worst character in "MK:The Movie" seemed to be Sonya. Sure, she does look like her video-game counterpart, but the one fight scene with her, where she fights Kano, is LAME. In conclusion, this is good enough to rent a couple of times, but you might not want to buy it unless you are obssessed with MK. My copy of it is literally collecting dust. (WARNING: DONT EVEN WATCH THE SEQUAL!)

Summary: Not too bad
Review: Although clearly designed just for fans of the game, Mortal Kombat isn't actually a bad movie. I really enjoyed it, simply because of the musical score and all the great characters. The acting is...less than colourful. The plot is also rather weak. But, it's a film that works better if you don't think about it too much. There's loads of fight scenes action fans will love, and characters like Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Reptile are bound to attract fans. Unfortunately, the laughable Mortal Kombat: Annihalation followed shortly after.
