Summary: Classic but not a masterpiece
Review: This is the best samurai action anime out there, but it's still just an action flick. I'd give it 4.5 stars, but Amazon doesn't support half stars and I can't in good conscience give it a perfect score. The fight scenes are better than I've ever seen in anything else of it's kind. The animation is as painstakingly detailed as Akira. The plot is much more involved than any other action anime, and it was the best treatment of "kill x legendary demons" i've ever seen. Also, this thing is just oozing with cool in every scene(you'll see what I mean).

However, it's got some flaws. First of all, several characters simply have no development. It's excusable in an action movie, but unfortunately it does take a bit away. Second, bits of the plot, though it is above average, are a bit hokey. Third, is the entire purpose of Kagero to get raped repeatedly??? That just disgusted me. While i don't mind graphic scenes when they get a point across, this is going too far. I don't mind graphic violence or sex, but lots of needless repeated graphic rape is too much.

Other than that, it's a great film. If you have a strong stomach and love action, this will definitely satisfy you and is a great addition to any collection.

PS: In this case, the dub is a viable option as you're not watching for the dialog. Besides, you can admire the writing without admiring the acting. Also, it's less bad than some. The mediocre acting actually helps Ninja Scroll, as it really gives it the feel of a cult action flick. Besides, why cover up that beautiful action with subtitles if you don't have to?

Summary: A recommended catalyst in converting non-anime audiences!
Review: A great movie for those who create life from a piece of paper! It has a good story, good fighting scenes, sex, love story, mystery and suggests curiosity. Ninja Scroll is a movie that requires more than just one viewing session. Just like Pulp Fiction, it produces conversations from a variety of viewers. It's clean, original and direct...displaying characters that tingle the imagination. Watch for Ninja Scroll 2 coming this Spring of 1999.

Summary: Anime at its finest
Review: Ninja Scroll is among the most important anime to come out in a long time. Set in medieval Japan, Ninja Scroll is the story of Jubei, a mercenary swordsman who quickly becomes involved in a web of political intrigue. The animation is without equal, highly stylized and superbly drawn. Some objectionable sexual content, but an otherwise excellent film.

Summary: It was Good. Very good. But there are better anime out there
Review: Okay, I'm not going to go into the plot too much because people already have. The fight scenes are amazing, and the plot is better than the vast majority of anime. The only thing that stops me from giving it a full 5 stars is that I've seen some anime that I liked better. "Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture" has equally good fight scenes, and was quite simalar to Ninja Scroll, but I liked it a bit more. This anime is well worth buying however, and is a valuable addition to any anime collection.

Summary: I'm reeling in amazment!
Review: What can I say? This is THE best Anime movie of all time. I have seen sooo many others, all with their good points, but Ninja Scroll is a God among mortals. I was first blessed to see this movie on a T.V. broadcast, since then I have watched it over and over and over......

The fighting seens were incredible, the storyline was captivating, the enemies were of a demonic breed, and the entire thing glides along without a hitch. If you ever have a chance to see this move, DO!
