Summary: Poor attempt at buddy cop action flick.
Review: "Showdown In Little Tokyo" is your completely average buddy cop movie. It has plenty of action/violence and your obligatory naked women in it. Brandon Lee's character makes some lame attempts at humor but it all drops dead in the water. Typical dialogue includes telling a bad guy "You have the right to be dead" just before killing him. Ha ha ha. Tia Carrere is completely wasted in this film. She is a talented actress but none of it shows here because she is simply around to be the damsel in distress. This type of movie has been done many times over and it's been done much better than this.

Summary: Excellent movie! Hot hunks, good one-liners, fun flick.
Review: B-Movie all the way. Funny, fast and enjoyable. Maybe not a movie you sit down and analyze for social commentary, (although there are screamingly funny reverse sterotypes) but a movie you can watch for a bit of fun. My advice, rent it, than BUY it!

Summary: Lee, Lundgren Team Up For Ultimate Showdown
Review: Brandon Lee and Dolph Lundgren team up as renegade cops with extensive martial arts portfolios in Showdown in Little Tokyo. The catch here is that the blonde-headed Lundgren has more of a connection with traditional martial arts and Japanese culture than his American-ized counterpart, Lee. The mismatch works well for laughs and for action as both Lee and Lundgren get to display their talents on a number of bad guys.

For Lee, this is a traditional stroll down memory lane - a film vehicle his father, Bruce, may have taken on and the typical sort of flick he turned out before his tragic death on the set of the Crowe in 1994. For Lundgren, he displays martial arts skills never-before-seen in his previous pictures. Donning the boxing trunks in Rocky IV, he kept his powerhouse kick boxing skills under wraps in the ring. The rest of his films opt for graphic gore via armed weapons. Needless to say, seeing a six-foot-seven man executing sweeping kicks and unparalleled agility is a sight.

Of course, in buddy cop films, chemistry is always the deciding factor in whether or not the film works (and in some cases, if a sequel is made). Thanks to a humor-filled script, both stars excel at the cheap shots, even if Lundgren's delivery is somewhat wooded in places. The film doesn't misfire. While it certainly didn't receive any honors as an artistic piece, Showdown delivers the goods: Awe-inspiring delivery of martial arts and a more than adequate story line that keeps the action going at a modest pace.

The DVD version is a decent capture of the film. The colors are crisp and the picture is mostly flawless. The down side is that there are no extra features on this disc. Still, most action fans aren't in the hunt for too many extras. Definitely a good addition to your DVD collection.

Summary: Showdown in Little Tokyo (1991)
Review: I'll admit it, this movie is one of my guilty pleasures.

While I'm not the biggest fan of seeing Dolph Lundgren running like a girl through an old used car graveyard wearing only skin-tight Spandex shorts, I do have a soft spot in my heart for the ironic humor and martial antics of the late Brandon Lee, along with the gorgeous/naive character played by the stunning Tia Carrere.

This movie does not excel in any one particular category: the action is decent, the story is simple but well laid out, the acting is good, and there is enough nudity to keep things interesting (although I'm sad to say that Tia uses a body double for her scenes of nekid frolicking).

But the complete package turns an otherwise average "Showdown" into the slick, neon-lit, buddy cop action movie that makes this one of my favorite movies of the early 90's!

Summary: For what it's worth....
Review: If you're out to collect all of Brandon Lee's work, this is an essential. If not, you may want to pass. While the martial arts work is slick, and the dialog is peppered with some good humor, the plot is rather lacking. To top it off, Stephen Glantz (writer) has apparently never actually spoken to a woman, because he certainly can't write for them. Tia Carrere is utterly wasted (yes, even for her skills, this is a waste) in the most unrealistic female character in film. Even her nude scenes are a body double.
If your looking for martial arts action you haven't already seen, you could get this one. Just don't get your hopes up.

Summary: Showdown is a good movie to have
Review: If your making a Brandon Lee collection Showdown in Little Tokyo
is one of his good one's to have. Brandon's best movies are Showdon, Rapid Fire and The Crow, I also enjoyed Legacy of Rage.
One movie that is so bad of his is Laser Mission. Brandon does a good job in the movie but the movie over all is [bad]. I got the DVD because you can't go wrong with amazon [price]. But Showdon is a real fun movie to watch.
