Summary: Better than "Bloodsport"...
Review: Yes, this movie was better than "Bloodsport." Basically, as one reviewer said, it's a basic plot: good guy's brother gets beat up, good guy trains real hard and beats bad guy. However, they did it so cool:) When Van Damme goes to Thailand, the movie gets awesome. There are some very nice Thai fights in the ring (both in the background AND during Van Damme's bouts). The training scenes are rather long (always a plus with martial arts movies) however they aren't accurate to Muay Thai. Why? Thai boxers don't do Van damme's "splits kick," among other things. And Thai boxers (in the old days) kicked banana trees (with rubber bark), NOT palm trees. Don't let this movie influence you to go try and kick down a tree with your shin. There, that being said. Go watch this movie:) Still want more? Hmmm... cool music (the old guy's flute rules), beautiful women, and comedy. What else is there?

Summary: Kickboxer delivers heavy Van Damme-age!
Review: Not exactly "Gone with the Wind", but this is without a doubt Van Damme's best pic. Sort of a cheap cross between "Rocky," "The Karate Kid," and "Bloodsport," this film is loads of fun with plenty of action and a good helping of corny jokes.

Summary: Martial-Arts fans wake up!
Review: Everybody in search of a good story or anything else that would normally make this title worth a look: Go away! This is for Martial-Arts fans only! But if you like the old fashioned "good guy gets trained by wise old master to kick the butt of the bad guy"-movie Type: Go ahead! Buy this! This early van Damme movie delivers it all (unlike most of his more recent ones): Great fights with a stunningly energetic choreography and one of the longes training-sequences ever to be seen in a movie. Especially the final fight agains evil Tong Po is a feast for every Martial Arts junkie. Going over almost 12 minutes (beware of the heavily cut german and english versions!) this fight is one of the best, ever satged with van Damme showing all he's got, only that here it's much better filmed than it was in "Bloodsport" for ex. His famous "Splits-kick" can be reviewed in this movie again, too! If only he would be doing this kind of stuff still. END

Summary: Best Scene Ever!
Review: This movie is unbelieveable! The reason it is unbelieveable? One scene, and one scene only. The dancing scene in the middle of the movie. It goes like this...Van Damme and his wily master go to a dive bar. His master makes him drink a mystery liquor. Van Damme, being the dork that he is in this movie (he is wearing a body suit/tank top at the bar that has clamps that connect at the shoulder, this keeps the shirt from falling off and makes Van Damme look like a dink), gets hammered. He is then forced to dance... With a shreek "AYYYEE", his master cues the music and movie history is made! Van Damme shakes his hips and does his splits, attracting all the babes...and Tong Po's gang! But who cares about those hooligans, Van Damme is getting his groove back better than Stella ever thought possible! The gang attacks him, and he pummels those lousy goons. "You got Served!" has nothing on Van Damme! He would serve those suckahs like he does Tong Po at the end! Nut-Sue Cow (White Warrior in Thai) to you all! What this movie teaches us is that Van Damme's ballet lessons did not actually teach him to "cut a rug", and that his brother is Latino? Buy this movie for this scene, trust me.

Summary: Van Damme was never in better shape than in this film.
Review: NO, it is not a great film and it is corny. However due to Van Damme's fantastic build in this film as well as supporting roles by real kickboxer Dennis Alexio and the great "Tiger" Tong Po playing himself, the film is entertaining for a fan of the genre. I also found the training sequences to be very inspiring if watched while working out. Overall, an engaging movie with bad acting (JCVD must do the worst job of acting drunk in all of film history, but hey, he's never gonna be Foster Brooks.) that a martial arts fan can appreciate. It also brought Muay Tai into the bad action movie spotlight for years to come.
