Rating: Summary: Don't ask this cook for chops Review: They say the villain makes or breaks an action-adventure flick. But in UNDER SIEGE, it's Navy-cook-turned-hero Steven Seagal, not villains Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey, who carries the film. Seagal's quiet demeanor is the calm before the storm of karate chops for Jones, Busey, and the rest of the antagonists who pick the wrong ship to hijack. The martial-arts actor even proves funny in UNDER SIEGE, in his non-verbal way. When he's not out-fighting them, he out-thinks them. The film ends on a weird note with the passionless kiss Seagal gives actress Erika Eleniak. See UNDER SIEGE - Steven Seagal mops the deck with those creeps, so who needs kissing, anyway?
Rating: Summary: Very, very good Review: Never has there been a man so cool as seagal!! Wow, great movie
Rating: Summary: Great moive if you like the navy and action! Review: I loved this movie. IF you love the United states Navy and love action movies this is the movie for you! YOu never know what is going to happen next!
Rating: Summary: An Excellent Peice of Work Review: Steven Seagal doesn't mess around in Under Seige. Action packed and full of excellent acting by Seagal, Tommy Lee Jones, and Gary Busey. If you've seen this on VHS, you've gotta get the DVD.
Rating: Summary: Awesome profile of a Navy Seal! :-) Review: From the minute this movie starts it is thrilling non-stop, entertainment. If you are Ex-military (especially Navy Seal or Submarine Service, or Military Curios) you will love this excellent story of a Real American Hero at work! :-)
Rating: Summary: Watch this movie for Tommy Lee Jones' performance Review: Seagal puts in a better performance than any of his other movies. But the best parts of this movie were the scenes totally stolen by Tommy Lee Jones. The conversation between Jones and his former CIA superior ("...deforestation, irreversibly progressive depletion of the global gene pool. It all adds up to oblivion, pal. Governments will fall, anarchies will reign. It's a brave new world.") is priceless, and matched only by Alan Rickman's list of demands in the original "Die Hard." If Marisa Tomei can win an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in "My Cousin Vinny," (which I loved, by the way) then Jones should have won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance in this movie. Jones (with Gary Busey pitching in to help in places) is the only thing that saves this movie from being a standard, cookie-cutter Seagal shoot-'em-up. Jones gets this movie two more stars than it would've had without him as William Strannix. Bravo!
Rating: Summary: it's cool, but seagal and guns, no good Review: It was a cool movie, but I was used to seeing him fight people hand-to-hand not shooting up the place with machine guns all the time. The knife fight with Tommy Lee Jones was the coolest fight I have seen in a while!!
Rating: Summary: A Great Action Thriller Review: Under Siege was a great movie. It combined a deep plot with intense action. Even though it was meant to, it had nothing to do with the Navy it was still an excellent movie.
Rating: Summary: Great action movie... Review: This is Segals best movie ever. The action is fast paced...the movie is never boring. The characters a well acted and Erica Elaniak (fine as ever). Fighting scenes are exceptional as in all Segals movies. The DVD format really increased the quality of sound..in fights and explotions. This is kinda old now but is a classic action movie. Definetly a buy..if not a rent. END
Rating: Summary: Merely average DIE HARD retread Review: This may be Steven Seagal's best film, but as an action film UNDER SIEGE is very average. It borrows its basic plot structure from the vastly superior DIE HARD, but while DIE HARD had a believably human and vulnerable hero in Bruce Willis' John McClane, UNDER SIEGE simply has the wooden Steven Seagal as the near-invincible Casey Ryback, the cook onboard the USS Missouri who happens to be a former Navy SEAL who has a lot of weapons expertise and the like. While McClane spent most of DIE HARD trying to get in and out of trouble with terrorists, Ryback basically spends a good majority of UNDER SIEGE simply killing them one by one in various "cool" ways. You never feel that Ryback's life is truly threatened by the bad guys---he's just a killing machine, and only head baddie William Stranix (Tommy Lee Jones, in a highly entertaining performance that brings slightly more interest than this movie deserves) truly matches up to him---and thus you never really get involved in the hero or this movie like you do in DIE HARD. You simply watch Ryback cut his path of righteous destruction in a brain-dead, gaga state (and occasionally laugh at some of Seagal's line readings), and while you are occasionally entertained, you might realize how dumb this movie truly is. Some people, of course, don't mind occasional no-brainer entertainment like this. Believe me, I enjoy the occasional brainless action film, just as long as it has an involving plot, entertaining characters, and good action scenes. UNDER SIEGE only half-delivers---its plot never truly involved me; the main bad guys (Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey) are a lot more entertaining than its hero; and the action scenes, for the most part, are just average (except for that marvelous knife fight at the end). In short, UNDER SIEGE is a pretty stupid movie, and if you're looking for truly great, even intelligent action entertainment, you would do best to look elsewhere. Heck, even this film's sequel, UNDER SIEGE 2, is slightly more entertaining than this! Skip it.
