Rating: Summary: A Great Action And Adventure Film! Review: This movie was so cool. I know, I know, it may not follow completely along with the book, but movies never completely follow along with the book, so that doesn't make the movie bad-does it? I actually liked the movie better then the book-the book was boring, but the movie was really exciting. The movie brings the book to life. I think I liked "The Adventure of Huck Finn" better then "Tom And Huck"...well, actually...both movies were really great-but I guess I just liked "The Adventures of Huck Finn" better 'cause that b*tch, JTT, wasn't in it and I like Elijah Wood much better then JTT! Of course, then again I do also like Brad Renfro...but that's getting off the subject. So, my advice? Go out and rent "The Adventures of Huck Finn" and you'll find a cute and talented guy (Elijah Wood) at one of his best. Also, rent "Tom And Huck" and borrow the books "The Adventures of Huck Finn" and "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" at your local library and you can have a Mark Twain Party! He-he-he!
Rating: Summary: Tight! Review: Well, i really liked this movie! So, i went and read the book. I know, i know, too big for a 12 year old, but i did. And jeez! It was thick! Ok, about the movie, it was sooo good! I absolutely loved it! Elijah Wood was cool in it, well, he is the hottest guy alive...yeah, anyways. And, i thought that he pulled off the character very well. And yes, they did lower Huck's age to accomadate for the appearance of Wood, because in reality, he was 12 years old. Or, was that his age in the movie? Can't remember. I saw the version made in the 60's, and was not impressed by it at all. Ok, it just was too old fationed. This one actually brought the book out, and made it seem real! The others are just kinda dull, if ya know what i mean. So, i would recommend it to anyone! It was such a cute movie! Wood is such a cute kid!!!
Rating: Summary: Don't Worry, Just Buy It -- You'll Love It Review: What a great movie! Good for adults and older kids (maybe 8 years old+). Script is well written, based on Twain's novel. Character portrayal draws you into the movie, and then the film is just the right length -- I've really enjoyed it every time I've seen it. Somewhat serious, but with nice characters and relaxing humor so it's very enjoyable. Also a more accurate representation of slavery, too, so kids pick up some good horizon-expanding. Some parents might want to watch with their children for a couple of scenes -- one is with "Pap" toward the beginning when he's drunk, and another almost at the end, when the climax hits while Huck is trying to escape with Jim.
Rating: Summary: Walt would be proud!! Review: When Disney gets it right they really get it right!! I absolutely fell for this movie when it was released theatrically.I couldn't help wondering where all the parents were that have been crying out for class act family entertainment? While retaining the spirit of the book, this version of the movie is definately a cut above its predecessors mostly due to Elijah Wood's portrayel, the kid is a natural! and radiates an impish, mischievious charm that defies his age. Its hard to imagine this film without him, one wonders if it would have worked so well. Little wonder that he would go on to do greater things.Stephen Sommers obviously knows what works and delivers a film that feels like a labor of love. The DVD is no dissapointment either and thankfully has a few extras that give a greater appreciation for this movie. The supporting cast is great, the chemistry works quite well in most places. There are moments when it strays a little off course but there are far too many positives in this movie and this is one than young and old can enjoy. Much has to be said for Bill Conti's score as well, it really is magnificent!!!Disney HAS produced some live action classics over the past decade or so and 'Huck Finn' is one of them. A few years later the studio went back to Mark Twain territory with 'Tom and Huck', while not a bad picture in its own right it comes a close second to this 'pearl' of a flick that shines in a sea of so much garbage that is passed off as ' family viewing' these days.
Rating: Summary: He's GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!! Review: With his bulbous blue eyes, sculpted cheeks, full lips and cleft chin Elijah Wood looks just like a Botticelli cherub on the loose down Mark Twain's river. The spirit of the novel is captured in full in this story of a self-sufficient boy in 1840's Missouri who forsakes all conventionality to travel southward with his friend, a grown runaway slave who strives for freedom and the chance to buy his wife and children who've been sold elsewhere away from him. In the course of their adventures, which Huck (Wood) narrates so well one feels he's truly and personally speaking to you, they find themselves in the midst of a robbery, in the center of a family feud; Huck goes into girlish drag to steal necessities out from under a suspicious housewife's nose, and, with a pair of con men they meet along the way, they get sucked into becoming core players in a scam to swindle three bereaved daughters out of their inheritance, then facing an angry mob foaming for justice when the truth is revealed.Elijah Wood brilliantly portrays the lead, bringing to life one of history's most beloved characters and clearly transmitting all the earthy playfulness, confidence, determination, independence, and warmth Twain's Huck Finn possessed, made even more delightful by his rare combination of uncommon Baroque-style beauty and modern puppyish cuteness. Courtney Vance is jovial and friendly as the spirited Jim, and Robbie Coltrane and Jason Robards are comically devious as the scheming 'Duke' and 'King'. The scenery, plantation houses, river boats and banks, busy docks, and woods are all picturesque, visually authentic sights to behold. The movie does differ from the book in that Tom Sawyer is completely cut from the story, only making perhaps a brief appearance as one of the boys cheering the opening scene fight between Huck and another lad. Therefore, the whole sequence with Tom at the end isn't performed. Also, the 'N-word', which was used liberally throughout the book, has been omitted to conform with current times, replaced always by the address of 'slave'. And, of course,(LOL)in the book Jim and Huck do most of their traveling together in the nude, and we sure as heck can't have THAT going on in a Disney film or in ANY film containing a minor for that matter!
