Summary: Dive into 'Atlantis'.
Review: This movie is an okay sort of movie. Not the greatest one I've seen. It does not have the greatest animation, because there all shapes. There hands are very strange too. The movie has a good plot, but is certainly not as good as, 'Tarzan' or 'Beauty and the Beast' but is certainly an enjoyable film. Michael J. Fox does a really good voice as Milo, the explorer looking to find 'Atlantis'. Well, I recommend this movie only to kids and maybe adults. It is enjoyable to kids and be sure parents you will get a thank you after the movie from your kids! They will certainly love it!

Summary: Unbelievable animation but, is that all?
Review: I found the animation about the best if not the best in its craft I ever saw. The vocalizations were well casted. The problem was the story. It just wasn't very exciting. Unlike other classic animation epics, the story failed to draw me in and keep me captivated. The story was all too predictable and followed a standard formula. I know the movie was intended to be watched by children as well, but please don't go to all this great work to end up with a frankly boring story!

Summary: Ok for an Adventure Movie, bad animation
Review: I saw Atlantis the day it came out and i thought the story was great. But Disney made another bad animated movie. But if you just concentrate on the story, I recommend this movie.

Summary: Not your average Disney film
Review: This movie is much more an adult action-adventure film than a kids adventure film. I found it to be an interesting look at the story of Atlantis. I flet that it was a blend of Jules Verne and Walt Disney.

I was interested to note some of the attention to detail; one scene with the Fox charecter leaving the Smithsonian, it is geographically correct as it is shown on the correct side of the mall as it faces the Capitol in Washington. Some would not have bothered with that detail in an animated film. I found it nice to see.

There is a degree of realism in the film that might bother some people. At one point the submersible is flooding and you see men running up the passage way, through the water to get to safety. Not all make it before the watertight door is closed to save those already through it.

I found it enjoyable but certainly not a kids movie. It is also a bit of a departure for Disney so if you are looking for a standard issue Disney romantic fantasy comedy, this might be one you think twice about seeing. I recommend it to action-adventure fans without reservation.

Summary: Atlantis for kids
Review: The only complaint my 6 year old twin boys had was that the sound in the theatre was too loud. They loved the movie.

Summary: One more thing...
Review: This is follow up on the review I recently wrote. While I feel this was an excellent, 5 star film, I have to point something out. It's not as original as the producers may have you believe. I noticed this while watching a film yesterday titled Stargate. This is a pretty popular sci fi movie, from the early or mid 90's I believe, that has a very similar story and a few very similar characters! I'm only mentioning this because I hadn't seen the film in a long time, but it was on television yesterday and seeing it again I noticed the extreme similarities! The film opens in a very similar way as Atlantis! A nerdy linguist (who looks a lot like Milo) is speaking before his peers, who mock him for some of his theories. An elderly woman however, sees him as quite a talent and enlists his help in a big expedition to decipher the writings on an object they found in Egypt. The object is a portal to another planet and the young linguist is now part of a team sent in to explore this new land. There he finds an ancient civilization, makes a connection with a female who is something of a chief's daughter, and in that way a princess, and they fall in love. There is quite a battle against some Alien opressor's, ending in a way that also is reminiscent of the way the battle ended in Atlantis, and of course the finale finds the linguist staying in the new world with his new love while his team heads back to our world. It was just soooooo much like Atlantis! If you don't believe me, see it yourself! I'm not saying this devalues Atlantis. It's a lot like A Bug's Life. A Bug's Life, AND Galaxy Quest, were both copies of the Chevy Chase/Steve Martin/Martin Short comedy Three Amigos, and yet they are all good movies. I just thought it was funny and felt like pointing it out, because I'm sure Disney somewhere along the line has mentioned that this is a totally original story or something like that. I just remember them saying that about the Lion King when it first came out, and then after people caught on they went ahead and started admiting that Hamlet was a big influence. Well, it's no big deal, I just thought it was amazing how similar these films were. And as an added note, if you haven't noticed, Lion King 2 is simply Romeo and Juliet. This is not a complaint though, I LOVED the Lion King 2 and would rather watch it than Romeo and Juliet!

Summary: The best disney movie ever!
Review: I watch the movie at the El Captian theater with my family and let me tell ya, it was the best movie I ever seen. Michael J. Fox does a great voice for Milo James Thatch, the main character of the movie, and so does the other actors as well. What's great about it is that there are no stupid animals and no singing involved, like what are the chances of Michael J. Fox and Cree Summers singing in the middle of the film, not good (No offense meant guys). Anyway, the plot was well done and the characters your just gonna love, especially the mole guy, which was the funniest character of the film. So go see the movie and see for yourself. Note that it is rated PG for violence and smoke use.

Summary: Excellent!!! Finally different!!!
Review: Disney's finally caught on and not had any cute singing animals in their movies. I mean, I know the Emperor's New Groove didn't either (except for the "theme song guy"!), but Atlantis went beyond that. It showed Disney doesn't always do "cute and funny." Do you think the final battle was cute and funny? Certainly not! Atlantis showed Disney doesn't always do " one gorgeous girl and one hot guy." Was Milo hot? Not much. Was Kida gorgeous? Yes, but Helga was, too. Atlantis went beyond normal Disney movies and accomplished more than we thought it could.

Even though I am a HUGE fan of action/adventure, I gave this movie a rating of 4. Why? Well, the whole living crystal thing was very confusing. I've seen the movie three times now and I still don't quite get the whole thing of how it works and why Kida's mother was lost to it. Another reason is that I would've liked to see more on Atlantis' culture, even though it was dying. And why can Atlanteans speak Atlantean, but they can't read it? How was that knowledge lost, but not the knowledge to speak it? Plus, just like every other Disney movie, there's a ridiculously short romance tied in with it. The guy and girl meet one day and are "in love" the following!!! Then, at the end of the movie, probably only a week or month later, Kida and Milo look like they're married. If you ask me, they needed more dating than that.

Over all, Atlantis is certainly worth seeing. Young kids will laugh at parts, and older kids will be staring in awe at others. Adults will appreciate the clean movie with no language. The score is uplifting and makes your heart soar, and it fits the movie perfectly. Atlantis: a real treasure for action/adventure fans!!!

Summary: Disney loves their anime, and steals it too.
Review: Decent flick that copies the anime "Nadia", just like the Lion King ripped off "Kimba, the White Lion." Disney steal...I mean, strikes again. At least they were wise enough to actually purchase the rights to Miyazakis films instead of copying them and calling them their own.

Now if only they can start producing good animated films of their own instead of letting Pixar do all the work,or stealing them(see a pattern here?), then we might have something.

Summary: mmm-- I was put off by....
Review: The story line with a place for a female heroine is contemporary Disney. Unfortunately, the chain-smoking and violence left much to be desired. In one scene the mercenary slugs the old man in the gut -- and the old man dies -- this turned me off to the movie.
