Summary: A Bridge between worlds
Review: There are few 'myths' that tug at our collective hearts as much as Atlantis. Plato describes a civilization that was technologically far superior to our own but was destroyed by the great flood of Biblical reference. Now, 2000 years after Plato, the story endures - why? Could it be that there is some sub-conscious knowing that we all have about our pre-ancient history? Isn't it funny that we call the Atlantic Ocean by that name?Disney is helping to bridge the gaps between the times of Atlantis and our own. We have been denied access to our true ancestry, but films like this are helping us to 'wake up' to the memories that we all have. I find it fascinating that Disney would choose Hawaii to be the setting for their upcoming "Lilo & Stitch" which is about a young girl's unknowing adoption of a being from another planet. Perhaps some of us will 'remember' the continent of Lemuria that also contained a pre-ancient human civilization during the time of Atlantis. Lemuria suffered a cataclysm (brought on by the Atlantians) - leaving behind only the Hawaiian Islands. I can understand how many viewers found the aspects of the crystal to be confusing. As our society is 'remembering' how to use crystals for healing and as an energy source - the film illustrates how crystals are a kind of living being and that it was the crystal's misuse of power that lead to the destruction of the Atlantian society. I believe this film will help usher in the next generation of understanding and acceptance of ideas that mainstream society considers absurd or impossible. That being said, this film is probably inappropriate for children under the age of 8. For my generation, the film that woke us up was Star Wars and the concept of the Force. Parents, use the same discretion you would for letting your children watch Star Wars - there are some similarly disturbing images. The pace of remembering who and what we are is accelerating. Hollywood is producing more and more films mixing fantastic ideas like extraterrestrials and 'spirits'. Final Fantasy, K-PAX, and the upcoming "Signs" with Mel Gibson are all exciting and positive indications that we are on the verge of a massive breakthrough in our consciousness.

Summary: Nice, but with problems
Review: I've seen the movie and enjoyed it, but found that the first DVD loops on Magnavox DVD players so the movie never plays, but gets stuck on the (really boring) trailers. Kind of a problem. Be aware of this. Disney is no real help when addressing this. The second DVD (with the extras) is really cool.

Summary: I enjoyed it
Review: Even though i was expecting a bit more deep story on Atlanits, i still liked the film, it had some great action, wondeful music, the voice acting was really good, the animation was very good also,and the story was too, i think that Disney did something really good, trying to get into a new territory, and it quite works, but Atlantis should have been a live action film,but i still like it animated.

Summary: Booooooring and not for kids
Review: Atlantis must have a demographic out there somewhere that likes this sort of crap, but for 90% of you out there reading this review right now, trust me and skip it. Anime fans might be willing to sit through this, but kids and adults are both likely to come away disappointed. My wife and I could barely finish this movie, we were so uninterested. Part of the problem is that characters are not well-developed (except for the females, in true Disney fashion,if you know what I mean). The animation is nowhere near as good as you expect from a true Disney production; it's more like a bad Saturday morning flick that you don't understand why your 8 year old enjoys. I'm really surprised that Michael J. Fox lends his name to the lead character, actually. Watch an old Disney movie instead for kids, or Shrek if you are over 10 and still want to be entertained.

Summary: It's potential as elusive as the lost continent itself
Review: The action sequences are astounding, the sound is impressive. Yet all the bombastic drama we witness at the very beginning is severely marred by character development more akin to a Tex Avery cartoon. Serious and humorous material doesn't seem to meld very well here. There is some good gag material, but all in all I find the movie lacking in spirit. Still, Atlantis - The Lost Empire has its good moments that will keep kids glued to the TV (and a good deal less painful than Titan A.E.).

Summary: Could some more people have died?
Review: This is not the usual Disney type of movie. In the movie, over 150 people died for the all too typical greed of money. The jokes and animation used in the film are for kids, but I don't think the movie is very family oriented. There are other better movies out there and I defiantly wouldn’t recommend this one.

Summary: some nice animation but very sloppy story
Review: of course in most cartoons one is required to stretch the imagination at least a little bit.
Atlantis was submerged thousands of years ago and saved by a protective bubble. the reason it was attacked by the ocean is explained by the ancient Atlantean King, but the reasoning is unreasonable. the bubble came from some kind of living crystal that inhales people at will, every once in a blue moon just to keep the Atlanteans on their toes I guess. The Atlanteans have a secret power source, the aforementioned crystal, but are unable to harness it. Beyond that I'm not sure I can explaion what happens with this mysterious crystal, if you have the patience you try and figure it out.
A group of explorers, too many to have any sort of decent character development, travel to the Southern coast of Iceland and without a hitch find the lost city of Atlantis. the Atlanteans suddenly find themselves on a collision course with the explorers who are after one thing, you guessed it, the crystal! The Princess seems to fully trust the explorers, and even though she is surrounded by buff Atlanteans she goes gaga at the sight of Milo, the linguist who is trying to uncover the secrets of Atlantis. the Atlanteans speak their own native tongue which was invented for this movie, but who cares? after all they speak fluent English, as well as German and French. maybe the crystal taught them how.
the rest is not worth recounting, nor, in my opinion, worth watching. at the beginning I was impressed by the animation, but about halfway through the story wrecked it for me.

Summary: A halfway decent Disney movie....
Review: No singing teacups or lions in this one, thank goodness, but it was'nt perfect either. Some people did'nt like the fact that people got crushed, burnt up, drowned and beaten to death in Atlantis; it was not a little kiddie movie. Personally, I think its better to show the fact that when a sea monster hits you over the head you don't just say "ouch". Atlantis is a classic fantasy adventure film with adventure film elements. The story was pretty good and the sound in this DVD is truly wonderful but my big problem with Atlantis is the animation: Some of the visuals were very compelling but it could have been alot better. All the people look like they were put through a taffy pulling machine and sometimes the images looked extremely blocky (maybe this was caused by the transfer to DVD process?). Imagine if they used the same technology that was employed to make "Final Fantasy", now that would have been amazing.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: This was a really good flick. Unlike normal Disney films, there are no songs interspered. Everyone can guess the basic story, but the writers added a few twists and turns. Enough to make this movie exciting and fun to watch. James Garner as the bad guy? Who would ever have thought about that? But, he pulled it off and with great effect. Michael J. Fox as the good guy... Well, that's his character. He does great. I always enjoy his off the cuff humor and antics. His voice is very believable. A definite plus for this film. Just a really good film. The soundtrack was great. We watched it with the volume turned up. Music and effects were superb. I do wish they would have spent some extra time on the submarine. It was really a fantastic piece of machinery. Oh well... The extras on the DVD were ok. The encyclopedia on Atlantis was somewhat interesting. Most of the stuff you have already heard about or guessed. But, it was interesting.

Review: No it's not Beauty and the Beast - there are no songs! I loved Atlantis - it was an old fashioned ADVENTURE movie and I really enjoyed the ride. The sound on this DVD is amazing - if you have DTS, don't miss that track. Great movie I'll enjoy over and over.
