Review: I love all of Miyazaki's works, but I especially like this one. I've seen the English dubbed version as well, and it is a good movie, but this film is much better to watch in the original Japanese. I highly recommend it to anyone, even if you don't know Japanese.

Summary: Thirteen-year old witch goes to the big city
Review: Featuring the vocal talents of Kirsten Dunst, Phil Hartman, Debbie Reynolds and other notables, Kiki's Delivery Service delights both children and adults with a persevering heroine beginning her career as a big city witch, accompanied by her familiar, a wise-cracking black kitten. Bogged down by work and social distractions, Kiki must draw on her inner strength and magical powers to try to save her new friend from near-disaster. My whole family loves this movie, as we do My Neighbor Totoro. With each viewing, we continue to discover new details in the lush backgrounds (you can almost feel the wind in your face when Kiki's airborne, and the European architecture is incredible), and delight in the well-rounded characters. A must-buy for elementary school students and above looking for likeable, sensible female stars!

Review: I am not much of a fan of Disney films, and this film is why-it has such a great charisma and enchantment. Seeing advertisments for this film doens't do it any justice. The plot is simple yet slightly complex because for the character's changes throght the film. The music was fery fitting, although I tend to like the original music better. All in all, this is a must see.

Summary: Utterly Engrossing
Review: A point I would like to stress in addition to the comments already posted is that this is not "just" a movie for kids. Not only is it aesthitically impressive but the characters and dialogue are on a level well above most motion pictures made these days - animated or otherwise. Rather than going for slapstick comedy and overly melodramatic moments the plot unfolds at a leisurely pace allowing viewers to really sink in and enjoy each of the numerous wonderful aspects of the movie. Kiki's Delivery Service has such depth that repeated viewings are as engrossing, if not more so, than the first, for people of any age - the sure sign of a classic.

Summary: Best Kid's Movie Ever? A Strong Candidate!
Review: I've read the other reviews at this site and so I will try not to recap others' comments. Yes, the animation quality is remarkable; in this as in other high-quality Japanese animated features, the background artists transcend prettiness and achieve real beauty.One thing that other reviewers have not said, which I would like to emphasize, is that this is a particularly wonderful film for girls. As we all know, the pattern of traditional movie making is that heroes are always boys or men; and even when a female hero gets the spotlight, she is often the *only* female character of any significance. What makes Kiki magically different is the presence of strong supporting female characters -- of all ages -- who play essential roles in Kiki's story: not just her Mom, but delightful strangers who become good friends. Another point that distinguishes KDS from other kid films is the clever "surprise" treatment of traditionally scary situations. I can't comment in detail without spoiling some plot delights, but the essential message of KDS is that appearances are deceptive, and that things are seldom as frightening (or as simple) as they seem. Many stereotypical "frightening" situations get turned on their heads. It's not only a sweet and lovable story, but a real confidence-builder for little girls! And what a healthy antidote, for little boys, to the damaging diet of violent video games and films in which girls and women are just scenery (or prizes). The theme of *respect* which was developed in Totoro recurs in Kiki and demonstrates clearly that children's films do not need to be loud, violent, sexist, crass, and mindless to entertain kids. The makers of Kiki have a higher opinion of kids than that -- respect, in fact, for their audience. What a concept.

Summary: Great! Fantastic! The Best!
Review: As I listen to Kiki's ending song, I'm Gonna Fly, on my Real Player for the thousandth time, I realize how much this movie means to me. A gigantic anime fan, I saw Totoro in second grade when a classmate brought it for us to watch. I was enthralled. 5 years later, now in sixth grade, Kiki's came out. I recognised the animation immeditely. This was by Totoro's animator! Remembering that neat movie, I decided to rent Kiki. Gulp. This movie started my acute case of (drum roll please) Miyazaki Mania! Waiting impatiently for Mononoke Hime and Laputa to come out has taken it's toll. I am a Conan, Laputa, Kiki and Totoro expert. I have started to learn everything about Mononoke. So watch out! This innocent-looking little movie could take over your world! (Insane laughter in background...)

Review: Hayao Miyazaki's 1989 Film Kiki's Delivery Service is a movie that you can watch over and over again, I own both versions, Original Japanese and the Disney dub. I can still watch this movie over and over and still love it! Guaranteed to delight anyone.

Summary: A wonderful, enchanting movie
Review: My teenage son, who loves anime, bought this movie for his sister's 5th birthday. Since then we've watched it many times (as small children like to watch movies over and over) and the movie is still delightful. The artwork, the storyline, the relationships between the characters are all wonderful-- not the usual poorly done children's video.

Summary: Lovely animation with a sweet, engrossing story
Review: I was amazed my 2-year-old son sat through this whole story without moving. Miyazaki's animation has a wonderful artful quality (some backgrounds look like airy watercolor paintings) with a more realistic storyline than a Disney movie. The animation actually contains fewer drawings per second than Disney's, but the beautiful color contrast, story movement, and wonderful characters keep you wanting to see more. Phil Hartman's voice in the cynical, funny character kitty, Jiji, steals the show and made this movie my son's favorite. He asks to watch "Jiji" almost everday and I haven't tired of it either. I enthusiastically recommend this movie to anyone, 2-96, boy or girl!
