Summary: Breathtaking!
Review: I had not seen The Lion King in several years, and then, only on the inferior VHS version...What an amazing improvement! The sound blew me away! The color was so beautiful, I couldn't take my eyes away. It really gave me the chills. My five year old, though, was a little frightened by the sound and the scene at the end where the hyenas attacked Scar. She kept asking if there were hyenas here and did they eat people. Of course, she loved Pumba and Timon. I think it is a beautiful work of art, and this edition displays it brilliantly!

Summary: There are two versions of the movie!!!
Review: I know many people have seen this so I will not write a movie review for it.
I will like to state that in the DVD, there are two versions of the movie, the Special Edition and the Theaterical edition. Personally the only difference between the two is that there is an extra song in the special edition, that's it!

As for the way the movie looks, it is clear and colorful. This edition fully utilizes the DVD experiences. The music and songs are heard in full force if you have surround sound. This DVD should be added to your disney platinum collection.

The next platinum edition Disney DVD is Aladdin in OCT 2004.

Summary: A great Movie 4 Everyone!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I have got kids and i loved this movie as well as they did. It really was wonderful. They laughed, i cried, and we all loved the movie. I would recommend this movie for anyone and everyone who has kid, expecting kids, or just doesn't have kids at all. This is a movie we all can learn from. Don't Run Away From Your Past.

Summary: Racist Propaganda
Review: Note the accents of the different animal races.
Note the accents of the hyenas. (what ethnic groups do they represent?)
What happens when the races are mixed? (devastation to the land)
What happens when the races are again segregated? (happiness)

The rabbit hole goes much deeper, this is just a small taste of the hidden messages in the film.

Summary: a number of sequences have been redrawn
Review: well, this is not the version you saw in the theaters. It's close. But many sections have been redrawn--and poorly. The Crocks have been redrawn and rounded out. A Mufasa sequence has been redrawn. Of course, the SEX/SFX sequence was tampered with a long time ago. There are other short sequences that have been redrawn as well. Also the color is significantly more saturated on this disc. If you still have the VHS or better yet the laserdisc, set them up side-by-side, I think you'll be surprised at how many scenes Disney reshot for this version. My main question, why? My second, why use inferior animation for the reshooting? This is not so much a gripe, as a heads up.

Enjoy the flick. The story still holds up very well.

Summary: What Happened to the Soundtrack?
Review: The songs in the original movie were NOT included in the "Special Edition" making this a bland shadow of the original. Shame on you Disney!

Summary: Great movie, a little high on the price
Review: Great overall movie, I don't think anyone will disagree with the animation, songs, and overall quality. It is a definite purchase. However, I would recommend buying it from Wal-Mart for $14.87. I believe this price is valid for the first week. Great bargain.

Summary: A TRUE DISNEY CLASSIC
Review: i just bought the dvd yesterday and i already watched it and was reminded of what a great movie it really is. the difference between the dvd and vhs is amazing, the colors on the dvd stand out so much that the movie takes on a whole different kind of beauty. although i do have to say that the new song should have stayed out of the movie because honestly it really is not that good. but my god the original songs of this movie are truly classic. elton john is such a wonderful songwriter and the songs of this movie are so right that it just makes the movie even better. the extras on the discs are good and i am sure kids will enjoy them. all i know is, i wish disney would go back to making movies like this one because the ones they put out lately have been lacking. the lion king is going to stand the test of time, my reason being, i still get chills from this movie, that is how good it is. i watch and i know that i am watching something truly special.

Summary: A Masterpiece
Review: I remember when I was a young boy when this movie first came out. I saw it in the theatres THREE TIMES IN A ROW, it was just that good. And I didn't stop there. I took home the soundtrack and I was one of the first to get it on VHS. This is one of the best movies Disney has ever made, if not the best. The story is captivating, and very emotional. The music is very good (you'll find yourself singing along to Elton John's songs) , the characters are memorable, cute, lovable and funny, and you will want Simba to win against his evil uncle Scar. BUY THIS MOVIE.

Summary: I feel the love...
Review: I see the breathtaking beauty and magic that is Disney and The Lion King. This summer we spent a truly magical week at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge in WDW. Then in September we saw the Broadway Lion King in Chicago. I now have a new sense of what it means to people when they say Disney is Magic and Africa is the most beautiful place on Earth. I watch this dvd with a new respect towards Africa and her wildlife, a renewed sense of being in the circle of life.
