Summary: Certainly not better than the first and second, but is good
Review: SPy Kids 3-D is an awesome movie. Robert Rodriguez always makes great Spy Kids movies and hasn't failed yet. The only fault of this movie was that it was too short. While the 3-D effects were awesome, the movie was incredibly too short. I really didn't like that most of the family weren't in it. It was like the Adventures of Juni. Carmen was only in it for 20 minutes! While the plot was good, they could have made it longer. My favorite part was when the whole gang fought Sylvester Stallone's character, the Toymaker. It was great with the 3-D. If you liked the first two, then you might like this one. If you've never even heard of Spy Kids, then you'll enjoy this eventful and funny movie.

Summary: Spy Kids 3-D, Or Not!!
Review: Watch Out For Possible Spoilers!!!!!!Is it possible for a 3-D film to be great? I'm not quite sure. But after watching SPY KIDS 3-D: GAME OVER I have even less faith in the medium. Why, oh why did this film have to be in 3-D?

This film forgoes the kids in the title SPY KIDS and for the most part follows SPY KID Juni Cortez (Daryl Sabara, Spy Kids), who's left the super secret OSS to start his own private investigation service. He's content to save cats from the trees or discover why they've turned off the water at a local water park. But when his sister Carmen (Alex Vega, Twister) gets trapped in video game designed to enslave all the children of the world. It's up to Juni to save her.

The video game is designed by The Toymaker (Sylvester Stallone, Driven) a crazy man who has been trapped in cyberspace for many years. The man who put him there, also lost the use of his legs doing it, is Juni's Grandfather (Ricardo Montalban, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn). When Juni has him join the game will he seek his revenge?

SPY KIDS 3-D is a lot of fun, it's vibrant and full of wonderful colors and detail. It's also has director Robert Rodriguez's vivid imagination stamped all over it. It's just to bad the 3-D glasses got in the way of enjoying a lot of it.

There's a sequence on a racecar track, a giant robot battle arena and lot of other neat visuals. But the rich details, the colors, and the story all have to take a back seat to the medium. What good is 3-D if things don't fly here and there? The medium is wasted if you don't utilize this gimmick.

While early scenes that don't use the 3-D look much more colorful, the moment you put on the glasses everything becomes a little murky. Details that are essential to the pictures disappear and at least for me, I really wanted to see them.

The story is also on cruise control. This film is more like a series of action sequences than full fledge story. Sure there's a plot, but it's inconsequential because of its target audience. Kids who want to see boxing gloves and computer disks to fly at the screen.

Also do not be fooled by top billing. Antionio Bandaras, Carla Gugino, and Holland Taylor are in the film for mere minutes. But gladly there are many other guests that drop by George Clooney, Elijah Wood, and some of Robert Rodriguez's old friends show up. It's like an old family reunion.

I must say Stallone also does an adequate job as The Toymaker. He's funny and lighthearted, not a super-villian by any means, he's just crazy. He also has to play three other characters, which he does quite nicely. Is he back on the big screen for good? Probably not, but it was nice to see him play with his on screen persona for a little while, anyway.

I do not want to discourage you from seeing SPY KIDS 3-D: GAME OVER, at under 80 minutes it well worth the price of a Saturday Matinee. Besides it's still by far one of the better children's franchises out there, and this one has enough laughs and thrills to keep you interested. Also if you think 3-D works bad in the movies, it works even worse on TV. So waiting for the DVD release probably won't help.

For the most part I just longed to take those 3-D glasses off and immerse my self into the game. Oh well, you can't have your way all the time.

Summary: Take the kids!
Review: The 3-D uses the simple but inferior red/blue anaglyph technique and that is a let down, but it is still fun.

The kids will love it, but take them to see a better polarized or IMAX 3-D movie someday!

Summary: "Game Over" isn't incredible, it's just Okay.
Review: I'm a 16 year old who never saw the first two "Spy Kids" and assumed this one, which I watched at my little brothers' friends' birthday party, would be very difficult for me to figure out, and also very good. Well, I was kinda wrong on both accounts. I was more wrong assuming it would be difficult to figure out. On the contrary, you can see this movie without seeing the first two and not have any problems at all. I was just a bit wrong assuming the movie would be great. It was good...but not great.

Am I intrigued? Do I WANT to see the first two now that I've watched the 3-D third? Somewhat, yes. But I'm not dying to rent them this second.

So, I thought, HOW are we going to know when to put on these little disposable glasses with the elastic bands on the back? The movie tells you. "Glasses On" and "Glasses Off" flash on the screen at the appropriate moments, when a main character (always the kid Juni) puts them on. The 3-D effects are pretty cool--not terrifying--and are, I suspect, what holds almost the entire movie together. I mean, it isn't hilarious. It isn't overly moving, or sweet, or touching, or enlightening....so there must be SOMEthing to keep you entertained the whole time. I guess the graphics did it. My mother had a headache by the end. I was OK.

The story is a little bit feeble...not the strongest one I've ever seen. Kind of clever. But also kind of unoriginal. "Toymaker" tries to take over world by mind-controlling kids with evil video game. Ex-spy-agent kid must save sister from game and shut down game, trapping Toymaker inside. Grandpa likes it in game. Grandpa powerful, not confined to wheelchair, in game! Kid saves sister....kid proves to other kids he is "The Guy," kid shuts down game in the end and the Toymaker and his grandpa (longtime enemies, used-to-be comrades) reconcile. There's alot more to it. But that's the gist.

"The Guy" is a pretty funny concept considering that's probably what we'd really call him if the game were real. He's "the guy" you see on the ads for the game. Find him in the game, and he gets you through the 'unwinnable' fifth level or something. There's this robo-girl, Demetra, that Juni falls in love with til he discovers she's programmed to help him lose the game. Everyone thinks Juni is "The Guy" until Elijah Wood shows up (for a POINTLESS five minutes) and reveals himself as the real "Guy." Funny in a dumb way. I laugh. Hahaha.

There are some mildly exciting/scary scenes. The video game is quite recognizable to anyone who's played video games. The race scene is pretty high-energy.

There's lots of famous people I recognize in this movie, but sadly, they're only in it for a short time! I didn't understand why Carmen and the family come in when the movie's more than half over. I also thought the scene regarding fighting the giant robots in the real world, with people zooming in on their fire-powered shoes and doing other ridiculous things, was a bit over-the-top. It sorta made no sense.

I mean, I know Steve Buscemi was in this movie, but I hardly recognized him in the very short while he appeared. And when I saw the commercials, I saw Salma Hayek and said, "Hey! It's the muse from 'Dogma'!" Her role was, actually, quite substantial.

So, overall, do I recommend this film? Yes...but only to young children who like video games and parents who can stand unconvential, slightly cheesy movies geared toward younger audiences that do not necessarily have a truly uplifting story to them.

Summary: 1st 3-D movie in a while... awesome!!!
Review: It's been a long time since anybody has had the guts to make a 3-D movie. This movie is awesome in 3-D. I can only hope that this brings about another 3-D craze (last seen in the early 80's, and before that, the 50's.) As a 3-D movie lover, I can't see how anyone would have a problem with this... it adds so much more to the film. But, don't worry, my small minded friends, I have been told that the DVD will include a 2-D version!!! So you can sit back and play video games, and whatever else it is that stops you from fully enjoying a movie, and not have to worry about watching every minute of the movie... isn't that great??!!
But, for you real movie fans out there, sit back and enjoy... it's the first 3-D since "freddy's dead".
And, the fact that it is anaglyph (red/blue) rather than polarized, just means that we will all be able to experience this movie in 3-D, at home, without any special equipment.

Summary: A GREAT FILM for the KIDS! :)
Review: To all the parents out there who take (young adult-adult) online reviews into consideration, the bottom line is, your KIDS will love this film. The performances are well directed, story is easy to follow, the effects are well balanced (and not overblown like some of the other summer blockbusters), Stallone in comedy is laughs for the parents and the 3D glasses are the coolest idea since candy cigarrettes. The relationship between Demetria and Juni is very cute, but I would have used Carmen to carry the first half of the film as opposed to Juni. I will admit, I enjoyed the first two Spy Kids films a bit more, but there is nothing that should stop you from taking your family to the theater and enjoy the fun filled conclusion to the Spy Kids series. DONT wait for the DVD, this is a must see in the theater type of film.

Summary: Great Concept. Worst. Ending. Ever.
Review: I have nothing against Spy Kids, in fact I've been enjoying the films since I saw the first one in theatres. I just got back from the 3rd one, and let me warn you that most of it will NOT make sense unless you see both the first, and especially the second, mainly because of all the cameos...
...which include Alan Cummings, Steve Bushimi (forgive me if I have spelled his last name incorrectly), Salma Hayek, ELIJAH WOOD...
...and HIS part was probably the best part of the movie...
...let's get into the movie though. It's obvious that the 3-D element is over-stressed, something that the story should be. The 3-D worked, in fact I never complained, other than the fact that I had to wear the glasses over my real glasses, which could be irritating at sometimes.
Yes, some scenes are lame, but I found the movie to be quite neat most of the time. I enjoyed the additional characters who help Juni throughout the game, thinking that he is the "GUY" that will take them to the riches of level 5.
This movie isn't always happy with butterflies 'n stuff...there's a beta-tester teen who is competing in the game to get to the riches to support his poor family. Richardo Montelban, Carmen and Juni's grandfather, plays a very serious man in this film, when he talks about his disability, thanks to the evil "Toymaker" (a very different Sylvester Stallone[s][you'll see what the (s) means when you see the film]).
I will not get into the story deeply. All I can say is that the movie involves Juni going through a video game to save his captured sister. The rest of the story is fun to watch unfold. Let me warn you; Worst. Ending. Ever. In Movie. History.
See this movie; it's summer, who cares if anyone sees you. It's 3-D.

Summary: A Perfect Homage
Review: The guy below who thought this was garbage, doesn't understand what Robert Rodriguez is doing. You see, Spy Kids was fun, orginal, and goofy. Now, Spy Kids 2, that was a total homage to Ray Harryhausen and his Sinbad and clash of the titan films. Mr. Rodriguez is doing something that nobody else has the guts to do. To say thank you, in the biggest way, to everyone who helped and inspired him! Now with Spy kids 3, people are complaining about the old fashion glasses, and why didn't he use the new technology, etc... Well, duh, look at the film. Its a total tribute to TRON!! and a tribute to the old 3-D films. Why the old red/blue glasses? Because thats what he loved as a kid and wanted to share with everyone. The fact that the studio let him get away with all these tributes to past heros and icons is amazing. Any other studio would have pulled the plug or not even given it a greenlight. But Mr. Rodriguez was able to make a totally personal film for himself, a total homage to what makes celluloid great!

So, anyone with kids or just a wanting to remember their youth. See this film. Let your kids experience what it was like for you to watch films growing up.
