Summary: Good with a couple flaws
Review: First off, I have to agree with the reviewer from Issaqhah, WA. The promos at the beginning of the DVD are a HUGE put-off. One of the main reasons I buy DVD is to avoid the twenty minutes of trailers you find at the beginning of video tapes. Note to Disney: put your trailers in the Special Features sections. Forcing me to watch/skip-thru trailers EVERY time I view a DVD will not make me eager to buy Disney videos again. Second, I find that people either love or hate Rosie O'Donnel. Being part of the latter group, I cringed whenever Rosie's character was onscreen. When finding people to do voice-over work, I think it would better to find someone with broader appeal. My appologies to all of Rosie's fans, but I doubt I will ever knowingly buy another movie that she is in (voice or acting). She is just that irritating to me ( and many others so far as I can tell). Other than these two gripes, Tarzan is good fun for the whole family and the visuals are superb. While not up to par with the much better, "Iron Giant" it is still very watchable by adults.

Summary: Greatest Disney Movie Ever!
Review: I watched this with my sister and I must say that this is the best Disney movie since "Hunchback of Notre Dame". It was funny (oh, how I laughed) and it was pretty rough. But after all I loved it and I love it still. This movie isn't just for kids, it for teenagers too. You won't waste your time if you watch this! I rate this with 5 big stars!

Summary: Tarzan Swings Again
Review: Great movie for the kids. Even adults will like thestory-line, albeit it doesn't quite fit the book. Bought the Video and kids watched it 4 times in first day and a half. Great animation and with Phil Collins' songs, makes for a great movie. Now the question is - will there be a Tarzan II?

Summary: I heard the Sound was Sorry But I Don't Think So
Review: When I bought this DVD I was a little nervous because everyone was telling me that the sound was all screwed up and that its not worth the money and that I should wait for the sound to be fixed. However, I bought the DVD anyways and I want to let everyone know that my DVD of Tarzan has perfect sound. It is however only 5.1, but that doesn't make much of a difference in this movie because it doesn't have all of the sound effects to start with that could utilize 5.1 like say the Matrix or some other Sci Fi movie could. This movie is very good. It was the first I ever saw it and I have already seen in 5 times since I bought it. I only have one regret about this DVD. That would be that it isn't the collector's edition. After watching the movie I wanted to know more about how it was made but you don't get any of that only a little thing with N'Sync and Phil Colins videos. The collector's edition when it comes out though will have that. So what is my recommendation? I recommend you buy the collector's edition, but if you just can't wait to see this movie you should buy this one and know that all the criticism about this DVD is unwarranted.

Summary: A "should have" for your DVD collection
Review: In my view, this movie borders the Disney "Masterpiece" category. Tarzan has a good story line backed up by a good cast of voices. However, the automated computer animation becomes almost too apparent at times if you are a fan of the more "hand crafted" Disney classics. The DVD version has fantastic picture and sound. This movie was definately made to be enjoyed on DVD.

Summary: Absolutely amazing!
Review: In Disney's latest epic, Tarzan not only manages to swing around the jungle on thin vines, but also manages to swing into our hearts. Through absolutely amazing technological advances in animation, you actually feel as if you are IN the jungle swinging behind the man himself. As in the Disney tradition, the story plays on so many different levels, that one may have serious discussions about the meaning of family, environmental/animal welfare, and even gun control with your eight year old following the film. Very unlike Disney, there are no cute songs, rather, a stunning Phil Collins soundtrack which not only adds to the story, but shapes it. Try not crying through the first scene when Tarzan meets his new mother. The voices of Tony Goldwyn, Glenn Close, Rosie O'Donnell, Minnie Driver, et al are perfect matches to the characters.A few people have complained about the initial previews on DVD. I myself find that irritating, but found I was able to at least fast forward through them to get to the menu. And violence ensues throughout the story, but necessary to propel the plot, and handled sensitivily by the folks at Disney... we cannot whitewash the world for our children, after all, it is a jungle out there. I highly recommend this video/DVD to all wanting to own a classic in animation, and a hallmark of excellence for the years to come.

Summary: Audios/Ad's ruin this! [Buy] the collect. edit.
Review: I was very disappointed with this DVD. With so much hype I was excited to finally be able to watch this movie. I had not previously viewed it at a theater. The DVD opens with 3 or 4 advertisements which can be skipped by jumping forward 4 chapters but that is uncalled for. The DVD DOES NOT have 5.1 audio on 5.0 and apparently the audio was [not proper] because its doesn't take an audio expert to hear that the audio and picture is not matched. At some points in the film what should be matched to a front speaker is actually coming from the opposite rear speaker. Big [mistake] if you ask me. With the 5.0 audio you have NO SPECIAL effects thru the subwoofer. Not to say the sub can't used but nothing specifically sent to it alone. I would recommend [buying] the collectors edition and hope that the 5.1 audio it advertises is true and correlated correctly. Maybe ...the marketing people can move the ads to extra features section or end of DVD.

Summary: Messed up Dolby 5.0 English soundtrack.
Review: Disney has said they won't recall this pressing of 700,000 discs with improperly an improperly mixed English soundtrack, but will fix it in later releases. This is one to avoid for the time being.

Summary: They're baaaack!
Review: After a rather disappointing run of animated classics including Lion King, Hunchback, Hercules, and Mulan, Disney finally delivers another outstanding film. After A Bug's Life and Toy Story 1 and 2, I was beginning to think that Pixar was getting all the good storylines and voice actors. Besides that fact, I can't remember the last movie that didn't have a truly annoying sidekick always hanging around and getting into trouble at the most inconvient moments. This one doesn't. I also liked the fact that characters were killed left and right in this movie, but it was tastefully done so as not to disturb young children. (unlike the burning city scene in Hunchback that was way over the top in disturbing lustfulness and revenge) Overall, this is a movie that adults can sink their teeth into, and kids will love the action and humor as well.

Summary: Disney is back.
Review: I was starting to question Disney's ability to turn out another "classic" animated film but they did it with Tarzan. The animation is breathtaking, the score seamless and the characters endearing. There are two down sides to this film. One is the classic Disney orphaned child premise. The other DVD item that left me livid was the forced commercials at the beginning of the film. There is no way to edit this except to fast forward. I thought that this practice of intrusion on a purchased movie had ended with DVD's. Disney has corrupted the pure format of DVD's.
