Rating: Summary: Not Typical Review: This is not your typical Chow Yun Fat shoot'em up fest. Instead, this is an incredible love story. Chow Yun Fat and Brigitte Lin are reincarnations of lovers from the Qin Dynasty. It took them over 2,000 years to be reincarnated. They find each other while visiting an exhibition featuring the famous terra-cotta army of the Qin Dynasty (coincidence? I think not). Well, they fall in love, which wreaks some havoc in Chow Yun Fat's life. But, eventually......I think I'll save the ending for you to see, since it's somewhat unexpected. A beautifully shot movie. The surreal dream sequences are an excellent counterpoint to the real-life sequences. Definitely a must see and must have.
Rating: Summary: A conductor finds his love in the past in his sublimation. Review: This is the most successful Chinese film. The story is about a musician sees his "own image in terra cotta" sinking in the sea. He later encounters his lover, and he sees himself in the past in QIN DYNASTY 'drinking to a lover, and seeing themselves making love and then committing suicide...." The vow is being that in the next life, they will become "lovers again". The is one of the most beautiful Chinese films, and any serious audience looking for a glimpse of Chinese tradition, this is the movie that you should watch. I have every admiration for the playwright and the director in creating this superb film. It has both the elements of "the idea of the west within the east, or vice versa.....making it superbly humane and universal!!!". (Buy this video.)
Rating: Summary: Great story! Review: This story has brought out a lot of depth in life. For example, if a couple have been in love for 2000 years, does it mean they have the right to discard the relationship they were in prior to their "meeting" in this life? Even if it is truly important to continue a 2000 years love, shouldn't the couple be more considerate to the feeling of the people surrounding them? I believed that taking it slow is the key to successfully bring the 2000 years couple back together, with minimum amount of hurt brought to the people surrounding them. This is a great story. I would have given it a 5 stars if Chow Yun Fat and Brigitte Lin can bring out the struggling and the contradiction of their wants and what is right to do. However, I didn't see too much of that in this movie. So, I decide to give it a 3 stars.
