Summary: Can't Blame Jackie!
Review: I am a very big Jackie Chan Fan! I love all his work! Even this film. But I know, for a fact, its not a true Chan film at all.

First off, the character Chan protrays is not a Chan character at all. It is merely an obvious Hollywood executive's clithe creation, handed over to Jackie. The problem was that Jackie plays a tough, almost unemotional, badass cop! With a dirty tounge, and a mean spirit. Not Jackie! This character casually swears and treats woman with little respect. Not Jackie.

BUT! I will say this, seeing that kind of charater comming out of jackie was interesting to say the least. A part of me enjoyed it very much. It was strange to see, but its the only time you will, so enjoy it if you can.

As for the movie. Its just jammed ful of your typical 80's cop flick scenarios. Kidnapping, Drug rings, boat chase, bloody shoot outs. Oh, and even one of the villians turns out to be who you thought, was a good guy. The Shock!

But all that aside. It was only Jackies second attempt at American success. But since the film was done with out much free will to explore by Jackie, it was again, a failure. And he would be the first to admit that!

But one good, no, great thing came out of this film.

It was Jackies inspiration for what would be one of his greatest achievements, the Police Story series!

Review: I don't know what's wrong with these people this movie was one of Jackie's finest and I've seen all his movies. Sure maby the fighting seens were a little off but look at his movies from 1985 and bellow they were pretty odd like Big and Little Wong Tin Bar, Rumble in Hong Kong or The Fingers of Death. Come on you gotta admit there were some pretty good action sceens. The story made good sense and everything too.

Summary: Its just not jackie!
Review: I found the protector to be probably the worst jackie chan movie ive ever seen! Its definatly not a movie for kids to watch due the non-stop blood and guts and nudity.Jackie chan actually swears in this flim numerus times.Overall its just not jackie chan action, sure theres about 5 minutes of one fourth the kind of stunts and martial arts you expect from a jackie chan flim. So,to sum it up,theres no martial arts action,1 stunt(not even a good one),and all around its a pretty stupid flim, definatly not a normal jackie chan flim,DONT BUY IT,ITS TOTALY NOT WORTH THE MONEY OR THE TIME!

Summary: May be worth a look.
Review: I have to admit I haven't actually seen this movie, but I've read something about it, and I just wanted to say that I believe this subtitled version must be the Hong Kong version that Jackie Chan made after James Glickenhouse was off the project. He reshot the actions scenes at the end, and I've heard that Jackie's version is far superior to the original American version that Leonard Maltin reviewed.

Summary: BIG BIG PANTS!!!!!!!
Review: I honestley thought that this movie was appauling. Jackie had no control over the fight coreography and therefore the fights and stunts are slow, stiff and predictable. There is one fight that particularly stands out in this exuse for a film, but other than that this film is not worth half a cent.

Summary: Oh no!
Review: I know Jackie Chan has pulled off some real clunkers in his past, but I had no idea he'd ever been in a bad Dirty Harry knock-off. The Protector has little going for it. The story is cliched, and the dialogue is full of trite dialogue. I was under the distinct impression the writers had written stereotypical scenes and dialogue on pieces of paper, mixed 'em all up in a bucket, and yanked 'em out randomly. The result is that messy and uninspiring. For Pete's sake, when Jackie shows up at the beginning with his partner, and his partner talks about his kid and how he's going to give him this toy monkey, you just know the partner is doomed. Duh! This is such a cliche that even The Simpsons does a send-up called McBane.

Nevertheless, the cliches aren't necessarily the worst element of this waste of celluloid.

The martial arts are muted. Although the moves are fine, the camera-work muddies it up so badly that the effort is almost entirely wasted. For example, I think Jackie was doing something very frenetic and inspired, but a potted plant was between him and the camera. Who did the blocking for this? Whoever it is ought to have his or her head firmly planted between Jackie's foot and his target.

No one is a likable character in this film. Everyone is crooked and mean, and the womanizing Jackie shoots people into puddles of bloody gore while cursing like an angry eleven-year old from the bad part of town.

The only reason I don't completely denigrate this film is because there is a brief, shining moment when Jackie's brilliance shines through all the dung: while running through a bathhouse, he steps in either very hot or very cold water and makes a wonderful grimace. That's precious, scant cause to watch this film.
