Rating: Summary: Jackie Chan in love? Review: Yes, amazing as it may seem this movie actually gives Jackie Chan a love interest. So what do I think of the movie? Well: Cons: The action is not as exciting. The fighting revolves around some battles with Jackie and another fighter who has been hired to humuliate him. No life or death struggles here. Also it is kind of dumb in the fact that the chief villian in the movie is Chan's "friend". Who can't decide if he wants to murder Chan or not. Pros: It's a really good movie overall though. It still has some cool action scenes. And there are some hilarious supporting actors. The gay guy is just too funny! If you like Jackie Chan then you will really like it. If you are an action fan, you will like it. And if you like some cutesy romance, you ill like it. As long as you like one of these things I reccomend you watch it.
Rating: Summary: Simple And Pleasant Movie Review: This is one of my favorite Jackie Chan films. It's a nice, simple story with a sub-plot that allows for all the action scenes. It's a nice change of pace to see Jackie as a suave playboy. He doesn't overdue it and it shows he has some range. Jackie's love interest, Shu Qi, is adorable. Her carefree character is a good opposite to Jackie's uptight businessman. You can see why he would be attracted to her free spirit. I like the friendship/rivalary between Jackie's character and his boyhood chum. It's entertaining without being needlessly cruel and shows a sense of honor. This is really a movie suitable for the whole family (like most Jackie Chan films really). The action is fast and furious also like most Jackie Chan films. It's not as frequent as some of his films like Rumble In The Bronx or Supercop but there is enough to satisfy. My favorite scene is Jackie beating up a gang with a V-Max. I love the way they make it look like he's flipping a 600 lbs motorcycle like it's paper maché. The two fights with Richie Ren are outstanding and unlike Jackie's U.S. movies they go on for a good length of time. This movie is an entertaining Jackie Chan film and a well done Hong Kong movie with quality production values, action and a sweet little love story.
Rating: Summary: Sweet and brilliant Review: A sweet love story and brilliant martial arts ballet scenes. Just shows what Jackie Chan can do on his own, far from Hollywood's baneful influence. I love Qi Shu's performance. Well worth seeing more than once.
Rating: Summary: a lovestory - so what? Review: ok, this is not a typical jackie chan movie, but it is still great. Maybe my favorit jackie chan movie, because it is so diferent. jackie chan has a chance to proove, that he is far underrated as an actor. the pictures are beautiful and the story works well. lots of chinese humor. a modern version of cinderella. the only negative thing is the australian stunt guy, who doesn't fit in the story at all. it would have done well, without the 2 kick boxing scenes.
Rating: Summary: Cheesy plot but funny Review: The movie has a simple cheesy love story plot --- the usual fairy tale "rich guy-poor girl" kind of thing. However, they have their funny moments. & of course, a Jackie Chan film will be incomplete if you don't show his talent in martial arts. I would say this is a much lighter & funnier version of the tearjerker movie "Message in a Bottle" (just kidding :-))
Rating: Summary: Ima sucker for Love Stories Review: This is one of my favorite Jackie movies regardless of the fact that its a love story. The ever so beautiful Qu Shi plays as Bu who is following her heart by following a message that was found in a bottle in the ocean. She runs into Jackie and falls for him, but Jackie has always been a bachelor...will he fall for her? Watch and find out. This film is a great movie to watch with your lady...a love story for her, and great occasional action for the guys. Yes, this movie has fewer fight scenes that an ordinary Jackie movie, but it was enough. Not only that, but the fight scenes with white dude Brad Allen were totally awesome. The last fight is definitely up there somewhere in my top 20 and is worth the purchase alone. Since I am a sucker for a really good love story, I highly enjoyed the film, plus I really like Qu Shi and her very cute voice...The song for the movie is very catchy and theres even a video for it on the dvd. There is a lot of great comedy in here as well. Im grateful to say that Columbia released this film with its original language remastered, and to me thats very important. Plus, the dvd is relatively cheap which makes it well worth the purchase now. If you dont mind action movies with a love story, then by all means buy it. If you're a straight up martial arts buff, and just want to see a lot of good fighting, then at least rent it or something because the fight with Brad Allen is something to see (this guy can kick) and you just may buy it for that alone. Hope that this was helpful, check out my other HK film reviews.
Rating: Summary: Good movie Bad Commentary Track Review: Jackie Chan has a winner with this one. It has comedy, action, great fights, & a good story (although a bit ripped off Message in a Bottle (but who liked that sappy movie anyway)). A refreshing change of pace. About the commentary: Jackie's english is not all that good making it almost unbearable to listen to. Although I wish Jackie had supplied his own voice for the dub track. I watch a lot of commentary tracks on movies I just wish Jackie had someone else with him on this one maybe Ric Meyers of Inside Kung Fu Magazine. But you can't always get what you want.
Rating: Summary: jackie in love and it hurts Review: A jackie chan movie that is a love story i thougt it might not be good but is a really good movie a little cheesy kind of like a disney movie show it to your girlfriend she will like it to great fight scenes but there is only about 3 and half but they are awesome and the picture quality is sound is great also there is a audio commentary by jackie chan and a featurette that is great worth picking up if want a nice, warm, kind of cheesy love story buy it if your a jackie chan fan.
Rating: Summary: DISAPOINTING Review: I am a super Jackie Chan fan and love his movies. When I saw that Gorgeous was available, of course I snatched it up. I was disapointed very much in a way. Barely any action (but very good when there is), bad dialogue, the music was way too child-like cartoonish, plot very thin and disapointing, and Jackie didn't do his own dubbing! I would have much rather perferred to watch the original Chinese version. But I was extremely impressed with Brad Allan and his work in the film. He is a part of the Jackie Chan stunt team and I am glad to see that he has risen to the lights. He is an excellent character. I hope to see him in more. But over all I was disapointed.
Rating: Summary: A Cute and Romantic Fairy Tale Review: The movie "Gorgeous" is an adorable and romantic love story between Jackie Chan and Qu Shi. Qu shi plays an optimistic young girl who finds a message in a bottle and travels to Hong Kong to find her Prince Charming. The message was sent by a guy named Albert who turns out to be gay. He helps Qu shi's character meet and fall in love with Nick (Jackie Chan's character), who she meets while on a photo shoot with Albert on a boat. The scenery was great, including the fashion and cars. The fight scenes in this movie were not very violent, but rather entertaining and humorous. The soundtrack includes a sweet song sung by William So and Kit Yee Chan. This is a great movie to buy on DVD and watch with friends and family! I really enjoyed this movie and hope that I can find my Prince one day! =D
