Description:
A slamming, brass-knuckles action film (with simpering comic interludes) about a pair of female cops on the trail of a gang of counterfeiters. In her 1987 film debut, future Bond girl Michelle Yeoh (Tomorrow Never Dies) is teamed with American karate champ and B-movie action queen Cynthia Rothrock, and the acrobatic fights are staged for maximum floor-slamming impact. The plot is like Rush Hour in reverse: Rothrock is an American cop working in Hong Kong, flabbergasting the locals with her Chinese-language skills and rubber-limbed high kicks (when a thug grabs her from behind, she kicks him in the face). Director Corey Yuen (who staged the fight sequences in Lethal Weapon 4) delivers action in fast, hard bursts, with stunt work that rivals the eye-popping best of Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung. Visiting directors Tsui Hark (Peking Opera Blues) and Hung himself have tiny cameo roles, as money-mad dupes of the Sinotrash bad guys. --David Chute
