Summary: I wasn't crazy about this...
Review: I'm going to infuriate the cult followers of this movie by saying that I wasn't crazy about it. The story involves people flying around in tripwires, making bizarrely big leaps, etc. I'm afraid I giggled the whole way through it -- it was just so ridiculous-looking. I guess I'm just not with it enough to appreciate that sort of absurdity. I think it'd have been way better if the characters were all just human -- this story didn't touch me nearly as much as a Bruce Lee movie. It was clear that these characters were being aided by special effects, so I wasn't nearly as impressed by their feats. Every time someone swooped across rooftops, I was jarred out of suspension of disbelief. They don't even swoop well. They look exactly like people being hurled across stage by a harness and wire, in a way that is thoroughly unnatural and ungraceful. It bugged heck out of me.

Otherwise, a fun story. I really liked the characters and general storyline (which is deep without getting in the way of the fight scenes), and the costuming was superb. It's easy to see why these actors are about the hottest Asian actors on the market right now -- there isn't a weak link among the acting talent anywhere. But oh god, that silly flying.. why-oh-why did the director have to do this to a perfectly great movie..

Summary: Hey!, Give Me Back My Comb!
Review: Man This Movie [stinks]! If I Got The DVD I Would Be Skipping To The Fight Sense. Iron Monkey Is WAY Better, (pertaining to the fighting). CTHD Had WAY too much wire work, at least IM Made it look Pretty And fancy. Theses People Are Just Hopping From Building To Building And From Tree To Tree Like Nothing, What The Hell Is This, FIGHT!!! I hated this movie. That Part About The Girl Going After Her Comb Was BORING, That Took Up TOO Much Time In The Moive. If Your Looking For "Action" That Actually Involes A Certain Stlye, And Not Just Some Dumb Flying, Then Get "Iron Monkey"!!

Summary: The genre's bar has been reset to an unfair height.
Review: Rare, if ever, do movies concerning the orient strike a balance with three very important elements: action, romance, and the mythic. This movie takes all three and blends them into a serious work of art, a perfect amalgamation that sets the bar for the next serious Asian movie so high that it seems unfair. Watch this movie first and foremost because it is beautiful and singularly powerful, and watch it again because you cannot help but appreciate this moving artistic image.

Summary: East v.West
Review: I once had a dream that I was a butterfly, floating through the air, searching aimlessly for a place to land. As I wake up from this, I wonder... am I a butterfly now dreaming that I am a man! Sounds too deep? Well, welcome to the world of deepism if you will where yes means no and no means no or yes or not right now. On the surface, this is a beautiful love story that depicts one's unchanging love for a woman. But is it? Don't be fooled. Look from the East side my Western brothers and you will realize that this is a typical Hollywood film portraying lust, jealousy, materialism, and death. The whole plot is nothing more than a man tempted to be with a younger women. He gets led away from his true love. The Older and the younger girl compete for his love. And the man, played by Yun-Fat Chow, ultimately pays the price with his life. Sounds familiar? Yes the typical story of a MAN with his mid-life crisis. What I call it " a butterfly syndrome". So if you remember nothing but the flying and fighting, you only scratched the surface. On the other hand, if you were able to spot the underlying theme as I did, you have mastered the art of deepism.

Summary: Perhaps only advanced souls will 'get it'
Review: By far the most beautiful film i've ever seen. Almost don't know why I'd now waste time seeing another movie, after such perfection. With dramatic beauty it illustrates the universal challenges that our passionate souls face, as we stumble towards enlightenment, before we face the necessary spiritual challenge of existing 'in the world but not of it.'

If you know nothing of the beauty of the human drama, you will not realize the magnificence of this film, so don't go see it.

Summary: Overrated...maybe deserves 2 1/2 stars.
Review: This film is an effective departure from the usual martial arts stuff. Could that be why it's so popular. Masterpiece, no. Good movie, yes.

Summary: Let's simplify these views
Review: Generally speaking, if you enjoyed martial arts films long before this movie came out, you probably wont like CTHD. If you never enjoyed watching martial arts movies before, but like flicks like Last of the Mohicans, Rob Roy, Barry Lyndon or The Scent of Green Papaya, you'll like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
All of this arguing about whether its GOOD or BAD has nothing to do with the taste of the viewers, who have either GOOD taste or BAD taste!

Summary: Ok, but not the spectacular event people claim it is
Review: Yes, it is a high-quality version of Hong Kong wuxia films. Some of the action scenes are great, some are too unrealistic.
The "flying people" is at times, a bit bizarre. The best way to view it is on DVD, since it has English Dolby 5.1. The lead actors are good, but no need to rush out to get this non-epic.

Summary: Exhilarating!!
Review: This is an action-packed adventure, as beautiful as it is compelling. It has the sweep of an epic story, and the powerful themes of love, power, passing the baton onto the next generation, honor, deception, and murder.

The fight scenes are as masterfully done as any, ever, on the big screen. They combine phenomenal physical action with grace and beauty. The special effects are used solely to supplement the action, not as an end of themselves. This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the audience is compelled to clap throughout.

This movie is a gem. Strap yourself in and have some fun and enjoy it!
