Rating: Summary: Great Movie, Awesome Bonus Features Review: I just watched this and I'm totally kicking myself for not having seen it at the theatre. The story was good and the plot was just twisted enough to keep you guessing at exactly who did what to whom until the very end. I liked the story. The fight and stunt scenes were nothing short of amazing. I liked the scenes where the fighters seemed to hang in the air and I thought they were done well - for the most part they were just different enough to make you wonder if it was real or some kind of effect. The bonus features on this DVD were some of the best I've seen. There were several featurettes, international and US trailers (strange how different they were) and lots of little pieces that were interesting and informative without being overlong. This is a truly great DVD!
Rating: Summary: If you chop-socky, try Jet Li's "Fist of Legend" Review: You know this is going to be bad when Jet Li is only in it 50% of the time and the acting is left to Aaliyah. The story involves 2 powerful San Francisco families who are gobbling (at times by force) up properties in the waterfront area so they can sell it to a NFL expansion team who wants to build their stadium there. However, when the sons of each family are mysteriously murder, it starts a war between the two housholds. Jet Li and Aaliyah play the siblings trying to figure out what happened. Jet Li is very wooden in his role here and feels very uncomfortable playing a so-called love interest to Aaliyah. He doesn't show the charisma that he does in his Hong Kong Movies. The first time acting Aaliyah is charismatic, but she (and Jet too) show no chemistry and her acting abilities are pretty poor. There are a few fight scenes, but they are mostly people who can't fight, getting beaten up by Li. The special effects (done by those who did THE MATRIX) are poor as well. You can easily tell everyone are on wires and they don't hide this fact. This leads to everything looking really fake. The directing for Bartkowiak is also poor. He cuts too much and does not know what to do with Jet Li's quick movements. Often times there is confusion in his directing during fight scenes. He should have just stepped back and given the actors a wide lens to show the kung-fu action in all it's glory (and without wires). The DVD has many features, including two behind the scenes (one for the movie, one for a music video), 4 featurettes on the Special Effects and production notes. However, this all seemed like a waste of time for me since the movie was so uninteresting. The DVD picture is clean but not spectacular, fairly average for a DVD. The sound is poor. The hip-hop sountrack and the action is too loud and the dialog is too quiet. This poor balance made me adjust the volume at least 10 times throughout the movie. Rating: C-
Rating: Summary: Don't go see this movie Review: Hi! This movie is an excuse to laugh at the poor, terrible, acting, and for teen-guys to check out aaliyah. i normally would love this type of movie, but there was nothing special about this sell-out. the plot is the same as any old action movie you will find, and there is absoloutley no reason why they call it romeo must die. there is no love in this movie. there is nothing but horrible action by both aaliyah and jet li. sorry to say that, but that's my opinion. unless you would like to make sure what i'm saying is true, there is no good reason to see this movie. it's one of the dumbest movies i have seen ever. i know i sound very crittical, but it's true. no laughs, good fight scenes, love, or anything worth more then 1/2 of a star. this movie can be classified as the same category of the jackie chan movies, where they don't speak english. jet li should never have taken this role, and aaliyah should stick to singing.
Rating: Summary: amazing Review: acompanied with one of the best soundtracks ever this movie kicked some serious a$$! all the special effect were beatiful, though some went a bit over it, no one can jump over ten feet high and fight in the air, am i right? :) but i didnt mind this too much, the effects were beatiful, and the matrix style shooting added something neat to this movie which is a mix of kungfu and hiphop. what i wondered first was the name, romeo must die.. when i had only heard the name i thoguht it was some kinda rome & juliet story.. maybe it did have some of that in an urban way? the people who dont like it and say that jet li can do better were probably lookin for a more hongkong style movie.
Rating: Summary: JET LI! JET LI! Review: I saw all Jet li's movies that where available in my area and my conclusion is that this is one of his best. It has funny parts and the fighting scenes are just great! i love the scene where he uses tie wraps to attach the enemies. I really love the concept of seeing a X-ray photography where you can see where the ennemie got his bone, skull or chest broken or pierced! Other movies of his that are worth checking are Twin Warriors ( Tai Chi Master), Fist of Legend, The Enforcer (My father is my hero), Black Mask and Lethal weapon 4. People complaining about wires should watch these movies out and they'll see how much they are used and that they actually didn't use them much in ROMEO MUST DIE!
Rating: Summary: If you're looking for a good fight movie, this isn't it. Review: On a whim, I saw this in the theatre, expecting a Jackie Chan sort of movie. Essentially, the fight scenes aren't worth sitting through the joke of a script. This film is an utter waste of time.
Rating: Summary: ROMEO MUST DIE DVD REVIEW: Very cool! Review: When I heard that Jet Li was going to be a lead in an action movie produced by Joel Silver, I was very excited. Before I give a review, I'm not biased to Jet Li because our crew interviewed him and promoted his movie online. I'm not biased to liking this movie because I have been a big fan of his work. I loved this movie because it features wonderful action scenes, an interesting focus on using the African Americans and Asians working together and it features a lot of cool people in the movie. The storyline is pretty cool and purists of Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Chow Yun Fat are going to be angry at the US movies because such movies don't do justice to what talent they have demonstrated on the HK movies they have been in and I truly understand that. Another thing is people might feel the MATRIX style fighting hurts this movie. I don't think so. Personally, some fight scenes are a exaggerated and I agree with that but a lot of the other fight scenes are very awesome such as the scenes in the stairs, the football scene, the fire hose scene...awesome! Others maybe upset that the interracial relationship was not strong enough and were upset there was no kiss scene between Alliyah and Jet. We asked Jet about that and he said that in the end (without spoiling the movie for you), after a bad situation happens to a family member, should you be kissing a girl you just met. So, Jet had a good reason for that. [Note: You can our interview with Jet Li at AsianConnections.com] So, however you felt about the movie, to each their own. I really enjoyed it! In fact, at the theater in San Jose/Santa Clara, it was packed and people gave it a standing ovation. I'm happy to see Jet's first debut in a lead role for an English movie. What didn't I like about the film? I didn't dig the use of the X-RAY scenes in the violent parts. That was the major thing I didn't like but everything else, I enjoyed. Now, the DVD. The colors were very beautiful for this movie. I don't recall any major artifacting. The audio for the film is very good as well but what makes this DVD shine is the special features. Not only do you get the regular trailer, the international trailer but you get two Alliyah music videos, the making of the music video "Try Again", you get many short documentaries, the HBO featurette and the behind-the-scenes vignette. The insights to how the film was filmed is so interesting, if you are a Jet Li or Alliyah fan, the extras are also a major reason to buy this DVD. Really interesting information from each actor and from those who worked behind-the-scenes. So, the DVD will definitely keep you busy for awhile. So, you can't go wrong with this DVD. Very cool!!!
Rating: Summary: Very, Very Average Review: This film was given to me by a friend of mine, as the movie doesn't come out in the UK until October at the theatres. I have to say the plot was pretty good, and Delroy Lindo is excellent. Jet Li is unknown here in the UK, apart from a role in Lethal Weapon 4. From the trailer, I was awaiting a kick arse action movie, but action was few and far between. Flo-Mo wasn't used to good effect, and the movie was a good 20 minutes too long. Not a bad movie, but one which could have been much better with very little effort
Rating: Summary: Loved it Review: I thought this movie was great... Not good for those people who want to think their way through a movie but pleanty of good action!
Rating: Summary: Typical Review: Romeo Must Die was a let down. While entertaining to a degree, the movie suffered from the typical ridiculous plot (most of which had nothing to do with 'Romeo & Juliet'). Like most Hong Kong movies, the fights had alot of wires stunts. But with all the hype and money put into this movie, I was expecting better quality, not bad acting from Aaliyah, over the top computer graphic fight scenes and a terrible ghetto rap soundtrack. Skip this one.
