Summary: Unwatchable
Review: I am an action fan and a Chow Yun Fat fan. There are two kinds of action movies, there are hardcore serious action movies like Hard Boiled or Die Hard, or there are comedy action movies like this or Rush Hour. I prefer the serious ones, but from time to time can handle the so called comedy ones as well. Chow Yun Fat is the man and any chance to see him with 2 barretas in his hands is reason to watch. With that being said this movie is so bad that it is unwatchable. I turned this movie off after about 30 minutes it was so bad. I rarely turn movies off, but watching this was an insult to my intelligence. Whatever writers and directers who wasted the greatness of Chow Yun Fat should be forever banned from the movie industry. The acting was horrible, it was not funny at all. And at least if you are going to make a mindless action film, then put alot of action in it, this movie didnt even have alot of action. There was a decent ammount, but not enough to keep me interested. This is Chow Yun Fat's worst american movie, this movie makes Anna and the King look like the Killer. This is also the worst Chow Yun Fat movie ever, heck even the ..."Killers Two" or Hero's or whatever are better than this. Anyone that gives this movie more than one star will watch and like anything. They either have no idea what movies are suposse to be like or are just entertained by any garbage put in front of them. I dont even think there is any ammount of drugs that can make this film watchable. Stay away from it, and dear god dont spend any money to see it. If you want a action comedy with Chow Yun Fat, go rent Once A Thief. Do not watch or rent this, and Im not picky, I thought the Replacement Killers was great. You have been forwarned. What is the most disapointing for me is the fact that nowadays its rare to get Chow Yun Fat doing an action movie, he has been doing more serious stuff. So to waste this oppertunity is a disgrace to the movie industry and entire genre. Its truly sad.

Summary: I would give it negative stars if i could
Review: this might be the WORST movie i have ever seen in my entire life... i mean jesus the plot line is so rediculous that i am completely at loss for words... it involves some crazy old Nazi and some buddist scroll and 'a chosen one' and blah blah blah. and the characters are cliche and completely undeveloped, the handsome rouge type who just needs some guidence from a father/grandfather type, and of course the spit fire knockout of a girl who not only fights as well as the rouge but also drives his heart wild. i've only seen these characters in gee, every action flick i've ever seen; only these particular three are far more two dementional than anyother i've seen the people who wrote the above reviews and gave it 4 stars obviously have no idea what a good movie is, they probably also believe Scary Movie to be a the smartest comedy ever written... don't listen to them! i feel a great swell of pity for Chow Yun Fat, who's talent is wasted on this piece of cinematic garbage. and for the record the fight sequences are nothing to hollor about... i've never walked out of a movie before but i just couldn't take it any more, if i were the director of star of this movie i would pretend like it was never made

Summary: An Amazing Movie
Review: Chow Yun Fat plays the part like its his. This movie states so clearly the yin and yang. This is one of the most magnificant movies i have seen. Of fullfilling prophecy, of teaching the way and nurting the good in one. There is so much to learn from this movie i guarentee you it will be passed down from the generations in my family when i have them. 10 Stars to the director of this movie and the actors..you have done a magnificent movie and astounding job portraying the characters! Also the music is the best too.

Summary: I'm going to have too disagree
Review: I usually dont like trash like this, (OK actually, I do) but if they didnt have the coolest characters ever, than what movie does?

Come on, you had an ageless Monk. And if that wasn't enogh there was a really really hot Russian Mob Princess, worth millions, who is cultured, worth millions, and who can fight? Did I even mention her name was Jade and her father's name was Ivan the Terrible? Truly the best character best cahracter on screen ever.

If that's not enough, there were really cool Kung Fu movie references, and and almost disgustingly happy ending, (which I loved)

Sure this was the cheezies movie scine Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, and sure Sen William Scott plays every part like Dude Where's My Car, but this movie was a great pick me up and mor importantly, great popcorn fun.

Summary: An Amazing Movie
Review: So amazing is the way the oriental work, this movie embodies the yin yang and the spiritual side of the oreint or asian or whatever, i'm not good at the areas this comes from and if i do get it right, i do not want to insult anyone. This movie to me though, is so right on...it's an insperation. I can tell you this will be a timeless movie, passed down generation to generation as the value of the moral will never be lost as it is timeless itself.

Blessings of Peace I Wish You

Summary: Good "Wire Fu"
Review: I saw this movie expecting to see Chow-Yun Fat in a more lighthearted role and I was not disappointed. Do not see this film if you are expecting the cinematography of "The Killer" or "Crouching Tiger." This is not that type of film. This is a film that satisfies those of us who are not Kung-Fu "purists" and enjoy seeing the characters leap about and spring into the air. If you are one of those men who feel threatened when a female lead as an action character is given equal status as the male, you will probably not enjoy this film. The plot is not complicated or convoluted (just very simple), nor did I have problems with the foundation of the plot (Nazi Germany & World War II.)

Summary: Cliche-ridden
Review: Corny diaglogue. One-dimensional characters. A cliched story that could have been written by a precocious 6th grader. It starts in W.W.II with an evil Nazi trying to capture a sacred Buddhist scroll that gives the possessor the power of "The Force" from Star Wars, apparently. Flash forward sixty years, and he's still chasing the scroll-bearing monk (Chow Yun-Fat) with the help of his Aryan Superwoman granddaughter. Meantime the monk finds the man prophesied to be the great warrior that will save the day and bring happiness forever. But he's untrained, although he shows "great potential". Said warrior falls in love with a mobster's daughter with a heart of gold. They kung fu fight(although she has a strange knack for attacking him in ways that leaves her oddly vulnerable), and they eventually fall in love. Stop me if you've heard any of this before. Throw in some Matrix/Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon-style action, and philosophy that makes Yoda's musings seem uniquely profound by contrast and that's it. Utterly predictable. I'm a fan of fantasy/comic book action movies, but there has to be something original or exceptional somewhere. This one has nothing special to save it. There are some mildly humorous moments, and one or two fairly well thought out action scenes. Don't bother.

Summary: Chowy deserves better
Review: Tho his English is now much better and this movie offers him a chance to be lighter than in most of his other work the whole movie is still a total disaster. The story and point of the movie is so weak that no matter how hard anybody could have worked to make it better it would still [stink].

Seann William Scott sleepwalks his character and emotes practically nothing. James King is kind of alright as the bad rich girl but it's nothing we haven't seen a zillion times before. The villain was poor and his female sidekick was aggravating.

And all for what? The MacGuffin is a scroll that holds the key to eternal paradise for planet earth. But it must never be read. Why??? Chowy is the one destined to protect it and whenever he is not onscreen the movie plummets from mediocre to unbearable.

The constant rain and dingy sets did zero to create any atmosphere and the constant lack of color or color-coded sets makes it ugly on the eye and wastes any chance the film has of juxtaposing 1940's China with modern day New York (Crocodile Dundee anyone???).

Bulletproof Monk should have remained as a comic-book.

Summary: Amusing...sort of.
Review: Being a huge fan of the Shangai Noon/Knights movies, three coworkers and I went on opening day to see Bulletproof Monk. Even though we went in with LOW expectations, we were still disappointed.

Yes, there were high points and some funny lines. However, as the closing credits rolled, so did our eyes. All four of us agreed that a slow afternoon at work would have been better.

If you want to see this movie, I can only recommend it as a Friday night rental on a rainy weekend. And I won't be including it in my DVD collection.

As for the number of hot dogs vs. number of buns analogy/joke? It has been done' and been done much better. If you want to see the "meaning of life" idea carried out through a movie, watch City Slickers with the "one thing" idea. (It's a better movie anyway!)
