Summary: A POWERFUL FILM
Review: I feel that Storm Riders has achieved what most movies strive for. But where other movies fail, Storm Riders succeeds in combining an involved storyline with incredible special effects and gripping action sequences. Although the fight scenes are bit brief, the overall strength in the movie lies within its excellent character development. I would strongly recommend this movie.

Summary: Puzzled
Review: I am surprised by all the positive reviews here on Amazon. Even more amazing is that this was supposed to be one of HK's top films last year. I am still scratching my head. This is supposed to be a fantasy action/martial arts film, but the fight scenes totalled only 20 minutes in this 90 minute film. The fight scenes, often mixed with CGI effects, were so fast that they were difficult to follow. Curiously, the special effects made the few martial arts sequences messy and confusing to watch. Furthermore, like many other Hong Kong films, the script, plot, and acting were nonsensical. It is movies like Storm Riders that reinforces the reputation of Hong Kong cinema as corn.

Summary: Pretty good
Review: The CG work in this film alternates between cheesy and impressive. The fight sequences, while generally well done, are few and far between. There's isn't a traditional fight scene in the entire film; instead all the fights involve actors hurling CG fireballs at one another, flying through the air, and so on. The effect is that you feel like you've just played a video game rather than watched a movie. Pretty good, but I'd recommend a rental first to see if it suits your tastes.

Summary: A must see.
Review: I saw this movie in 1998 in Japan. I thought that something that cool would never reach the US shores. Thankfully I was wrong. I grew up in Asia and I am used to seeing this genere of movies, but the special effects blew me away! The Matrix is a small reflection of this movie! If you love HK then this is a movie you should see. Other recomendations: Iron Monkey, The Duel (corny, but entertaining), A Man called Hero (same guys who did Storm Riders), and East ls Red.

Summary: American movies will never be able to duplicate
Review: This was one of my first Fantasy foreign movie and I'm glad I got it. The story in this movie will flat out grab you making you forget that you are reading subtitles. Wind and Cloud are the best dou I have ever seen. The whole concept of this movie wowed me and all of my friends that watched it with me. The sound, the visual affects and the acting met all standards of a good movie. I recommend DVD version only , so you can look at the behinds the scenes.

Summary: HK version of "The Matrix" or "Mortal Kombat"
Review: I believe that the strength of this movie lies in the storyline. I thought that the character development of the main cast was superb, (the supporting cast could've used work). I thought that this was a great story that could have come across better with more live action than special effects. Of course, the special effects were magnificent but through it all, a lot of them were not necessary.

I felt that there were some scenes that could have been left out, but overall, the plot flows with great performances by all male leads.

A more dramatic climax would have sealed this as a definite must-buy.

Check this out if you're into "The Swordsman II" or "East is Red".

Summary: All Flash and No Substance
Review: Ok, I heard the hype, and I plunked down (money) for the dvd, which I rarely do for HK films, unless I'm certain I can't rent themand that they'd really be worth my time. I'm an HK fan, and I like sword-fighting movies like Chinese Ghost Story and The Bride w/ White Hair. So it's a shame this movie couldn't meet up to those standards. First off, the cgi was used more often than the fight scenes, and a lot of it only covered 15 minutes of film. That's bad in a movie that's two hours. And it was so fast that it didn't have the chance to dazzle me, or even keep me in suspense. Give me live fights any day. That's what HK movies are about. Second, the acting was good, except for the young female lead. I swear, she's a real insult to actresses like Michelle Yeoh and Bridgette Lynn.(sp?) She just stands around, playing with jewels and talking to her pet birds. I'm surprised the male leads would even have a thing for her! She's a moron. Third, the ending left me totally dissatisfied. I guess it implies the leads will be in sequels or something, but I figured that after they went through all that pain and work, that they'd be given happy endings. This isn't a John Woo movie, after all. Anyway, don't waste your money. Rent it, bootleg it, or save your money for the cheaper and better Gen X Cops. END

Summary: Incredible special effects, Hong Kong Style!
Review: When people ask me what type of movie is Storm Riders, I say, think about the special effects in The Matrix and the backgrounds of Mortal Kombat. This movie has fighting, drama, laughs and special effects like you've never seen! Also you might want to look at A Man Called Hero, by the same director and cast of Storm Riders

Summary: This will BLOW YOUR MIND.
Review: An unbelievably good film by Andy Lau. The plot is utterly chinese, and the special effects are completely spectacular. When I showed this movie to my friends, they cursed me for not having shown it to them sooner, and then demanded to know what other gems I had hidden away in my library. You will never be so popular as the week after you show someone this movie.
