Summary: Low quality Sci-Fi
Review: This futuristic sci-fi shamelessly rips off far better movies of the genre like Bladerunner and Escape from New York. Worse still, Keanu Reeves has far less charisma or talent than either Harrison Ford or Ken Russell. The plot is tedious and confusing. The "environmentally correct" ending was too reminiscent of Star Trek IV.

Really a waste of time.

Summary: A poor Attempt to be complex
Review: A sci-fi that isn't worth renting, a good tv movie though, a matrix type movie without a good plot, theme or direction. This movie was very predictable. The only interesting points are what the movie considered to be the future. one of the worst sci-fi movies, yet it was easy to watch, in a time cosuming manor.

Summary: Great precursor to MATRIX film - and Keanu looks great!
Review: This DVD was recorded with 2 formats - the STANDARD and the Widescreen. The Widescreen was so cut off at the top and bottom it really lost a lot of the movie when you compare it to the other side which was burnt in the STANDARD format. The movie content itself was - well - I guess I did not buy the movie for its plot - I bought it because it's Sci-Fi, it has a great Techno soundtrack and it has Keanu Reeves who looks great. Unfortunately, it has a lot of gore - so I feel that I missed a lot of the plot because I skipped over all the gore - and there is a lot of gore. Perhaps the film would have reached a much larger audience and have been more successful if it had cut out a lot of the useless slash and burn stuff. Why does a Sci-fi movie have to have gross gore? MaATRIX did not, and although it had a lot of guns, MATRIX did well, I think because it wasn't gory. Otherwise, Keanu looks really buff and cute and that's why I got it. Frankly, the plot for me was incidental, but I loved the visuals a lot - especially when he was wearing these virtual gloves hacking through the internet and was in the wiring for the circuitry. That was really nice!

Summary: Johnny Mnemonic
Review: Great movie-very Cyberpunkish if you're into that type of thing especially. Keano Reeves played a kind-of unfeeling character (as I would assume many people will be in the future, even moreso than now), who later realizes there is more at stake than his own self, and begins to think about the rest of the world. Good cyber stuff.

Summary: Johny Mnemonic
Review: Although everyone around me hated the movie or was unimpressed, I LOVED the film and will not criticize it the same genre as other films. It redefines an up and coming culture with a mixture of present day awareness.

Wet wiring--what a concept--Gibson was and is a genius.

Summary: Badly-acted and dull
Review: The focus on the special effects reveals the movie's true purpose: It's a cheap, cheesy action movie designed to give some brief thrills, disguised as a drama by painful passages of bad acting. The lack of much plot, then, is apparently supposed to be justified by the action, but I found it excessively violent, even by today's standards (some of the torture scenes, while brief, are more brutal than they needed to be). Meanwhile, most of the effects look awkward and fake, and the acting is amazingly hokey (Reeves looks like he's half-asleep most of the time, which wouldn't have been so bad if this influence didn't spread to everybody else too). The only likeable character in the movie is Henry Rollins' role as "Spider"but his brief display of intelligence and sympathy doesn't save this mess. Since the movie is supposed to be escapist entertainment, it should have at least been entertaining. It comes close at times, but not close enough. I think I'm being generous with the two stars.

Summary: William Gibson Short story about a software courier
Review: Keanu Reeves uploads encrypted data into his modified brain as a high-tech courier. Apparently he has a low capacity brain, because he had to wipe out his childhood for less storage space than I have at home. With the Yakuza, a cybernetic Dolph Lundgren (who barely deserves mention) and an evil corporation on his tails, a group of "underground" doctors try to salvage the cure to an international plague from his decaying (overloaded) brain. Amusing note -- the "plague", Neural Attenuation Syndrome, is simply humanity's over-exposure to technology. More technophobic BS.

This movie tries to do a lot of things and fails. It fails to be the feature-length version of the short story. It fails to be epic. It fails to be soul-searching, but succeeds at being preachy. It also fails to be entertaining. It's just a horrid script, and the movie is generally low budget.

Summary: Greatest Movie Ever Made
Review: My summary describes it all!

Summary: What's the problem?
Review: It has to be said that when they open the annals of the worlds most underrated movies this will be at the top of the list. Keanu is well cast as JMn - some would say bereft of personality but I think that's missing the point, he's cool and professional, just as he should be. Ice-T plays the beleagured yet passionate freedom fighter with gusto and Dolph Lundengrundenhousen...en...whatever...is excellent as a twisted cyborg with a religious fixation. Everyone else is more than adequate in their roles. The plot is more subtle than the instant, intense visuals let on (and this is where a lot of people seem to trip up as they do not see past the cheese) and the movie stands up well to multiple viewings which is what you want from a video. All in all, a great package for any sci-fi fan and a must for Gibsonette's. Buy.

Summary: Room Service Can Be Fun
Review: I found this movie a fairly fun and enjoyable watch - some of the special effects are good, and whilst the plot is not up my expectations, it has a reasonably gritty feel in terms of the way the future is portrayed.
