Summary: Dreary film Concept but Visually entertaining
Review: Michael York one of Hollywood`s forgotton icons in my opioin
stars in a rather different subdued sci-fi film with amazing
special effects. Set in the 2274 where ecological disaster has
made civilazation a doomed existence the complex story revolves
around a cerominial death where citizens die by the age of thirty
and in a city with no dieases free sex is encouraged. Logan(York) is a security guard-cop begans to fear for his own being
that he will soon turn thrity and will be forced to die. So along with a `runner` he fleas through the underground to escape
his former counterpart out to destroy Logan`s rebelion. The film moved at such a slow pace i`m amazed it kept my atention.
But I must admit LOGAN`S RUN is a interesting example of a socitey that is out of step with the real world.

Summary: Great film, terrible packaging.
Review: I rate Logan's Run a Sci-Fi classic and eagerly awaited the arrival of my DVD. Imagine my disappointment when I saw the packaging. It is partly made of cardboard and looks pathetic on the shelf beside my other DVDs in their standard size plastic boxes. Shame on the manufacturers for squeezing every single cent out of their production costs of this DVD. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the movie again, even if this time around some of the sets are showing their age, or is that me?

Summary: I love the Plot
Review: I love the plot of this movie, It is a long movie, so it is hard to watch over and over, but if you like Sci-Fi, then you will like Logans Run. If you can get past the 70's look of the film, the plot is excellent.There has been a nucular war, and many generations of people have lived in this self contained paridise. no one has been out side for hundreds of years. The only problem is population control. In order to keep the population down, at the age of 30 you must be killed. The killings have been made into a celibration that people gladly go to and sacrafice there life. But some don't, Some try and Run, but no one has ever escaped untill now.

Summary: Logan's Run: Pride of the 70's
Review: When I watched this as a youth back in 1980 or so, I really thought I must be the only one weird enough to not only like it but love it. Since then, I've seen it lots of times. Now the DVD has made it even better, with a very nice anamorphic transfer, and a very imaginative re-mastering of the sound into 5.1 surround. The whole job done on the DVD is first-rate, including snappy, subtle menus (none of that expensive, interminable Star Wars etc. tripe!). The commentary is both informative and amusing. The director Michael Anderson gives a good performance, accompoanied by Michael York who is very suave and silly, as you would expect him to be. He actually says things like, "you know, in movies, they sometimes go from the studio set to outside, just like that!" which is very funny. Also featured is the costume designer whose name of course escapes me. He sometimes seems a little embarrassed, but really I think most people wouldn't have the costumes any other way.
If anyone is reading this who doesn't already know the movie, I'd be surprised. It's THAT kind. Any showing in a group will result in disaster, unless your friends are all of a very like mind. This movie isn't out on DVD in the UK, forcing me to cheat because I can't wait for it. PAL, by the way, is a bit sharper than NTSC but flickers a little more, so take your pick.

Summary: Good 1970s sci-fi
Review: This is the original movie which launched a short-lived TV series back in the 1970s. It takes place in the future, where the solution for overpopulation is to not let anyone live past the age of 30. In this milieu, the film provides some satiric commentary on religion (just as so many other science fiction films have done). It also depicts a rather horrifying future in which people can be so brainwashed. Problem is, nobody thinks about dying until they turn 29. All their life, it is always the "other guy" whose turn has come to be executed in a rather bizarre ritual called "carnival." For the most part, the special effects in this movie are quite poor. The futuristic city looks a whole lot like a miniature train set (which is pretty much what it is). Also, the robot in the cave resembles something out of "Lost In Space." Of course, it was not until the premiere of "Star Wars" in 1977 that sci-fi movies had their first life-like androids. The weapons that the security men use are also quite unimpressive (not to mention that I can't remember anyone in the movie actually HITTING something). On the upside, the sets for the overgrown Washington DC are very good. The set director certainly did his or her job. This is a good sci-fi yarn and is easily worth its modest price. However, be fore-warned: although a young Farrah Fawcett appears on the cover (presumably to sell more units?), she is only in one brief scene. Not to worry, tho, I think that Jenny Agutter is both more attractive and a superior actress, anyway (although I can't recall ever seeing her in anything else).

Summary: Good DVD, Sub par movie
Review: Well, if you are a diehard Logan's Run fan, this DVD is for you. I can't say that I enjoyed the movie. What really made me laugh was listening to the Michael York Commentary when he states that the monster in the ice cave is the equivalent to Darth Vader. Really? Well, after watching the movie several times, I still dont know what that creatures name is, but I can guarantee that the majority of the English speaking world knows who Darth Vader is. If you are not a hardcore SF fan, I'd pass on this one.

Summary: Logan's Run - Guilty Pleasure
Review: I always enjoyed watching Logan's Run on late night TV. The story is excellent, about a utopia where you can have everything - save for your thirtieth birthday. I could watch the film 50 times and not get bored with it. Logan's Run is even better on DVD in anamorphic widescreen. The picture can be soft at times, but looks excellent for a 70's film. The commentary by the director and Michael York is insightful. This movie is perhaps my favorite guilty pleasure.

Summary: Oh MY!
Review: You know, I didn't really like this movie when it first appeared in theaters. I thought Michael York had cheekbones as wide as a football field, and Jenny Agutter was as frigid as one of BOX's tv-dinner sanctuary seekers. I guess I've mellowed with age. This DVD is a wonderful version of what has turned out to be a classic of the genre. Widescreen post-apocalyptic pie-in-the-sky glory. Carousel, last day, cats, Box, muscle, the New You, the Love Shop, sandmen, sanctuary..all words of the day, and fresh and new in this DVD. If you have never had the pleasure of seeing this movie, I highly recommend it. I love the Dallas and Ft. Worth locations. I have stood in that fountain that was used for the final scenes of the film. It's across from the Ramada Inn in Ft. Worth Texas. Seriously, Peter Ustinov as Old Man is the crowning gem of the movie.. his "Oh MY!" at every suprise, his quotes from "Book of Practical Cats" is pure joy. This is a great version of the movie.

Summary: One of the better fantasy sci-fi films?
Review: Visually, the film isn't much to look at. It's painfully obvious from the main titles that you're looking at models, plus the sequence goes really slow in my book. Story wise, I thought the spectacle of people going into the arena to watch those people on LastDay "renew", was something akin to Roman times where lions feasted on those thrown to them. The "lifeclock" in the hands was a neat idea, too bad the producers had to end life at 30, otherwise we could have seen more interesting combos. Jenny Agutter's costume, if you could call it that, was a bit racy for a PG rating. And what is this "circuit" that was mentioned? Apparently the era's entertainment. I think more time should have been devoted to background items such as this, along with other aspects of life in 2274. Another example is HOW do children get to Cathedrel? Do they 'escape' from Nursery, or are they put there? I thought that the "New You" shop was put there strictly for the plot. I mean, if you're only going to live until you're 30, you won't have TIME to get tired of the way you look, as you'll be too immeresed in other things to much notice.
